Here's the rundown from what I have gathered:
1. John Watson says that the father has said no reclass. That's the most important point in this entire thing right now, because it comes straight from the father. However . . .
2. Rumors persist out of AAU circles on other boards (their info also says its Duke/Auburn battle for Boston and Kessler) that Patrick is a prime reclass candidate and Duke would be in excellent position.
3. Now, the father could have changed his mind/something could have changed/etc. Recruiting is fluid- that's the big thing I've learned over the years.
4. Possibility: the information out of AAU circles on other boards is simply inaccurate and there is no shot Patrick reclassifies.
Some facts:
1. Duke is not recruiting any other forwards, as Boston is a 2 guard (to most) and JJ can/will play the 4. Kessler and Williams at the 5.
2. Duke offered Baldwin earlier than anyone ever- after his freshman year.
3. Baldwin is really good and would fit perfectly with his 3-point shooting. He is 6'9 and shot 40% from 3 last year in AAU. He is a smooth handler, can finish well, etc. He is the number 1 player in the 2021 class for a reason.
4. Duke would be a bona fide Super Team with Roach-Boston-Baldwin-Johnson-Kessler. You've got to think Coach K wants to end the OAD era with a giant bang.
5. It makes all the sense in the world for Patrick to reclassify if he's ready, and his dad is a coach, so he will know this as well, I surmise. That extra year of earning potential could be critical down the line.
