2020 Recruiting

Patrick Johnson played for us. About 6'7" I believe....

Remember him from a game in Chapel Hill. I believe we had lead, Cheats were at ft line, missed ft, he did a poor job boxing out Marvin Williams who got around him and put in rebound for win.

If Baldwin reclassifies and commits to Duke in 2020, what a class this is going to be. I'm not sure what would happen with O'Connell-Moore-Stanley-Baker, because it may force one or two of them out, but that class would be unreal.

Was just going to post this. Baldwin Jr. is crazy good. If he reclassifies and we get him, along with adding Boston and Kessler, and maybe Williams... good lord. Probably be the best class we've ever had.

Hope I am wrong but do not think both Moore and Stanley will be here 2 years.

Dukeman think you are spot-on w/that info. Remember us gift wrapping that one away. Lee Melchionni nailed a corner 3pt jumper w/about 3-4 mins to go to put us up nine I think.Thought we were on our way. OFC

Just posted this on 247:

Here's the rundown from what I have gathered:

1. John Watson says that the father has said no reclass. That's the most important point in this entire thing right now, because it comes straight from the father. However . . .

2. Rumors persist out of AAU circles on other boards (their info also says its Duke/Auburn battle for Boston and Kessler) that Patrick is a prime reclass candidate and Duke would be in excellent position.

3. Now, the father could have changed his mind/something could have changed/etc. Recruiting is fluid- that's the big thing I've learned over the years.

4. Possibility: the information out of AAU circles on other boards is simply inaccurate and there is no shot Patrick reclassifies.

Some facts:

1. Duke is not recruiting any other forwards, as Boston is a 2 guard (to most) and JJ can/will play the 4. Kessler and Williams at the 5.

2. Duke offered Baldwin earlier than anyone ever- after his freshman year.

3. Baldwin is really good and would fit perfectly with his 3-point shooting. He is 6'9 and shot 40% from 3 last year in AAU. He is a smooth handler, can finish well, etc. He is the number 1 player in the 2021 class for a reason.

4. Duke would be a bona fide Super Team with Roach-Boston-Baldwin-Johnson-Kessler. You've got to think Coach K wants to end the OAD era with a giant bang.

5. It makes all the sense in the world for Patrick to reclassify if he's ready, and his dad is a coach, so he will know this as well, I surmise. That extra year of earning potential could be critical down the line.

Alex and Joey will be nice rotation pieces who spread the floor.

Moore and Stanley are OAD. No doubt in my mind about that. Stanley is 20 already.

Really appreciate the info axe, that's great stuff.

There have been whispers of that move for a bit. Patrick would be a perfect addition to this class as a PF/SF and would offer something this group would use well, which is a knock down stand still shooter. Floor spacing will be at a premium, especially if Duke doesn’t land Boston.

Cunningham and Johnson can hit the shot, but both are better suited to be able to move with the ball. Baldwin (and Joey) would be a kick out floor spacing specialist.

I’m hoping it happens, especially with Banchero looming out there in the space.

I’d take Blanchero and/or Holmgren in that 2021 class. Holmgren has got crazy skills and he would possibly stay 2 years. Blanchero is a top 5 pick after his Freshman season.

Holmgren is a beast.

Minnesota has been producing some good top 10 talent the past few years. Reminds me of when the Pacific Northwest had a run of talent in the mid 2000’s.

Jeremy Roach, Jordan Goldwire
Brandon Boston, Alex O'Connell
Patrick Baldwin, Joey Baker
Jalen Johnson
Walker Kessler, Mark Williams

Dream Team.

Kentucky and Calimari weep.

This highly-speculative roster might well result in the first Duke team to start five freshmen. Duke has had four a number of times. But there's always been a veteran or two somewhere along the line.

There were apparently discussions years back about Bagley not reclassifying and staying with last year's class. That would have meant 5 starting freshman. Easy to say so now, but who knows how it would have played out. Would Zion have committed? Who knows. All I know is it would have been cool to see had it happened.

Bagley on last years's team... we're cutting down the nets with no more than 1 loss.

If Duke can somehow steal Ziaire Williams away from UNCheat. Than, jesus. Roy should just stop recruiting a kid as soon as that kid hears from K. This would be awesome and almost like K is trolling Roy.

it's starting to look like a monster 2020 class. I like our chances with most of these guys, but I think Boston will go somewhere else. But I think we get almost everyone else we are after.

Hopefully Terrance Clarke will reclassify. He might actually be better than Boston to be honest.

Boston was a big get for Kentucky. Oh well. We'll be fine. Can't get em all.
Definitely! Dj Steward, Kessler, Williams, possibly Clarke if he reclassifies, maybe Ziaire Williams. Hopefully we can get a few of our top guys from this team back. We should be really good the 20-21 season, but first we have a great team to look forward to this season.

Off topic but I'm watching the 2001 semifinal vs. Maryland. Great game. They had us on the ropes several times, and Boozer was still working his way back into shape. Great team, and great win against a really good Maryland team that won it all the next year. Good Lord Battier was a monster. Williams as well. And Boozer and Dunleavy.

I’ll never forget that game. I thought we were done and when Duke came back to win especially against Gary Williams and Maryland, I was overjoyed. Same year as the miracle minute game. Think about how deflated Maryland fans were that year. Ha! I loved it

I've told this story before but I took my beagle Roscoe for a long walk when we were down 23; I was so frustrated. But I got back and we were only down 6 I was like holy ****. That Maryland team was a bad match up for us, they knew us really well and were experienced. thank God we won.

Billy Packer is insufferable. My God. He never stops talking. Battier really struggled early in the 2001 semifinal. Duke completely got hosed by the refs in this game and still won.

I watched that game on the floor about five feet in front of the TV. The lens fell out of my glasses and I am really nearsighted. I think most of the people in the room had left before the first half ended, so it was only me and my mom. Mom's not a big sports fan, but she told me she was sorry they were having a bad game and that she would watch as long as I was watching. I told her that team never quit the entire season and win or lose, I was watching until the end. And what a comeback they staged. I believe the room filled back up as the second half wore on, but they missed the best parts of the game.

When guru gary -7 comes out with his projections of where this guy's are going we should get a better feel of who we might can get. OFC
