Bellarmine is a tough group; I wouldn't want to see them again in the tourney if their petition is successful. Duke shot the ball well, but teams can see that packing the lane against us leaves shooters open, and we have to hope our guys can hit from downtown, which seems to be the case. Also, Mitchell's jump shot looks broken, haha

Real Quick, starting 5

Hey guys not meant to be some long drawn out thread. I am just genuinely curious what many of you see as the starting 5 we settle into, once Whitehead and Lively are playing at 100% including conditioning. I dont think either are quite there yet. It appears Lively has already supplanted Young as expected. Who is the odd man out once Whitehead is back to himself.

I am thinking Filipowski has been a pleasant surprise and to some degree Mark Mitchell too. Proctor was struggling but appears to be coming along.

Sorry, it took me two days to post it; a lot going on right now. I thought the defense looked pretty darn good in the last 10 minutes of the game; good all-around effort after a largely mediocre first 30 minutes of the game.

Official Gameday thread- Game 4: Duke vs Deleware

After our first L of the season we return to the Cameron for a nice game against the Deleware fighting blue hens. They better be ready to put up a big “fight” because they are currently a 22.5 point underdog.

Deleware is the defending CAA champion and lost to Villanova by 20 in the first round of the NCAA last year. The star of the team, and the one player that would have to have a magnificent game to pull the upset is Jameer Nelson……. Jr not Sr. Lead the team is scoring last year and has some solid genes as well

Deleware is coached by Martin Ingelsby, who played college basketball at ND as a pg from 1997-2001. He then was an assistant coach at Wagner before going back to ND as the coordinator of basketball operations before being promoted to assistant coach. While at Notre Dame he helped guide them to 8 NCAA tourneys and 2 elite eights.

ACCNX at 7! Not sure how to watch this one

Duke- 79

Official Gameday Thread- Game 3 Duke vs Kansas

Duke has yet to be challenged in this young season but tonight the bright lights get a lot brighter- The Champions Classic from Indianapolis Indiana. WE are playing the marquee matchup this year (haha kentucky fans can cry about it) against the reigning national champions- the Kansas Jayhawks a team I truly despise. We appear to be favored currently by 2.

The biggest question mark for Kansas this year is the post play, which is great for us as I feel our post play so far has been stellar and hopefully we continue that.

Another potential plus for us- no Bill Self, the cheater himself will not be on the sideline. In his place will be former St John’s head coach- Norm Roberts where he compiled a 81-101 record. Norm has coached against duke a few times including loses in Feb and December 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, Feb 2009 and December 2009

Norm is also no stranger to Kansas or Bill Self. He was an assistant to Bill at Oral Roberts, then Tulsa, Illinois, and Kansas all before St John’s. He returned back to Kansas in 2012.

My prediction- Duke 85 Kansas 75

Tough loss for our boys in dark blue last night, but there were some positives in the fight this group showed to even be there with a chance to win at the end.

Official gameday thread- Game 2 Duke vs USC Upstate

Duke rolls into game two facing The Spartans! No not the MSU ones who we seem to play way too much, but the ones from Spartanburg SC. Both teams are coming in at 1-0 with Upstate’s win coming against the mighty Tornados from D-3 Brevard College. Upstate finished last season with a record of 15-17 but managed to finish third in the big south conference. The Spartans are coached by Dave Dickerson, who displays an impressive resume

- associate head coach at Ohio St with Thad Matta for 6 years including the 2012 Final Four season

-5 years as head coach of Tulane

-assistant coach to Gary Williams at Maryland then later moved up to associate head coach. His time at Maryland featuring their 2 final four trips as well as the 2002 National Championship

Prediction-

I feel way more confident this game than the last..

Bellarmine-Louisville

Of interest for Duke purposes not just because Louisville is in the ACC.

Bellarmine leads 41-30 at halftime. You might remember from last season: Bellarmine won the A-SUN conference tournament but couldn't go to the NCAA tournament (or any postseason) because of the NCAA's antiquated rules about schools transitioning to D-1 being ineligible to compete in postseasons. They beat Jacksonville in the A-SUN championship game.

Bellarmine comes to Cameron on Nov. 21. It's Duke's last game before going to the PK85. Feel pretty safe in saying that's Duke's toughest mid-major on the non-conference schedule.
