Official Gameday Thread- Game 1 DUKE vs Jacksonville

LETS GET READY TO RUMBLE!! After another long offseason(although the older I get the shorter that off-season feels) it’s finally time to tip off. There will be a new king roaming the sidelines this year with national champion Jon Scheyer taking the helm after the goat walked off in nearly perfect fashion last year. The talk has happened, the speculation is over and we are now in a NEW era of duke basketball, let’s hope it’s a good one

Jacksonville state comes in off of a solid 21-22 season with a record of 21-10 and a 5 point lose in their conference championship game. They appear to return most of that core team for second year head coach Jordan Mincy who won the “joe b hall award” for top first year head coach in the country.. last year they also had the #5 scoring defense and #12 rebounding margin in the nation

this game doesn’t appear to be the pushover we might expect but prediction time…..

Duke-83
Jacksonville- 68

they keep it close for a while but we pull away the last 10-12 minutes

Kansas Suspends Self for 4 games

Kansas has suspended Self for 4 games, including our game against Kansas, for the various violations relating to the Adidas affair. What a joke. Kansas opted to go through the Independent Accountability Resolution Process instead of the NCAA, which I believe was put in place specifically to deal with infractions stemming from the Adidas affair, and got off lightly. Of course, the irony is that now, with NIL, they could have achieved the same without being secretive about it.

Fayetteville State-Duke exhibition

Tonight's game is at 7. In a programming alert, I'll be there with coverage tonight. The game is available for streaming on ESPN+/ACCNExtra.

I've heard it's unlikely Dereck Lively II or Dariq Whitehead plays tonight -- it sounds like there's a chance Lively is back for Monday's opener. Whitehead, I'm not sure you should plan on seeing him until Kansas.

A little background on Fayetteville State: They went 21-9 last season and won the CIAA. They return one of their three leading scorers (Cress Worthy).

In the meantime ... What do you want to see from Duke?

For me, the generalities are shooting and defense. It's going to be quite the juxtaposition to go from playing Houston to a Division II team.

Wake Forest v. Ohio State closed-door scrimmage

No, I'm not posting on the wrong board ...

As I think you all know, I'm the publisher of the Wake Forest site in addition to this one. Their closed-door scrimmage was yesterday against Ohio State and it dawned on me that's of some interest for Duke purposes, given Ohio State is Duke's ACC-Big Ten opponent this season (Nov. 30) and Duke plays Wake twice, with the first matchup coming early (Dec. 20 in the always-trolled "first true road game").

So I've got info on the Wake side of things I figured would be useful to post here:

Today was Wake Forest's not-so-secret scrimmage against Ohio State.

Here's the word: Wake Forest had six players score in double figures; made 13 3-pointers; had 19 assists; and recorded 13 steals.

I didn't get a score or box but ... have heard that the Deacons handled Ohio State.

My thoughts:

Though it's not a lot to go on, it does seem to confirm what we thought going into the season: This team is more balanced than last season, it's got more shooters and that's going to be a focal point. The steals number is huge -- Forbes mentioned sometime recently that he might want to use a little press with this team because there's so much speed in the backcourt and length on the wings, and I think that might've shown up here.
