Illinois writer Loren Tate says North Carolina deserves the national championship this season.

Tate believes any school that would commit 18 years of academic fraud, then spend millions to delay the case for years, deserves to win.

Check out her thoughts:

North Carolina deserves the NCAA basketball championship.

Any institution that wants the title so badly that it would carry out 18 years of the worst academic fraud in NCAA history, and then spend millions to out-lawyer the NCAA governing body by delaying penalties for years, has earned it.

In a world built on honesty and fairness, the Tar Heels shouldn’t have been playing Villanova’s champions to the wire a year ago.

Fake classes were in full swing when Rashad McCants, Sean May and the Tar Heels defeated Illinois 75-70 in the 2005 title game, McCants making the Dean’s List that year with sham classes and term papers written by tutors.

The school ultimately conceded that roughly 2,000 student-athletes received phony grades as a means of keeping them eligible … an underground fact that for years attracted many more budding super-stars to the campus.

We can wring our hands about illegal financial benefits for athletes and families, and we know these activities are widespread, but nothing keeps the athletes coming like the inside word that they’ll receive A’s without studying or even attending class.

Spot on. I read somewhere that they are pushing upwards of 20 mil to keep it strung out as long as possible. But Grayson Allen is labeled as a head case and should be banned forever from basketball.

We haven't spent that much on TPTRF yet but it's getting close. :D OFC

But the infractions hearing will be this year. They gave unc a extensions for the response of the third NOA bexause it mentioned basketball now so unc wants to have a good respond. Then after that the hearing. The hearing dates don't get released to the the public. So anytime after unc response the penalties would be announce. A hearing is going to 100 percent take place so their will be announcement of either penalties or not this year.

BAM! So Right On Target! Then ol Roy hires Sean May (AFAM major on that '05 team) under the dubious title of Dir. Of Player Personnel (for a COLLEGE TEAM???). Good way to keep him quiet after he opened his mouth in '12 and talked about why he switched majors to AFAM...("I didn't have to be in class as much").

I don't see them getting by with a slap on the wrist. Can you imagine the sh!t storm from the other schools that have been punished recently.

A lil Illini salt there ( Ok. A LOT of Illini salt! ) but it's all true. unx shouldn't even be PLAYING in the damn tourney much less the Final Four. Yet here they are. The tarhole nation invading message boards talkin' sheet as if any of it were justified. I've watched the NCAA play grab-azz with unx for 7 years so I have my doubts as to them ever handing out any significant sanctions to UNCCHeat. That said , if they don't it's a new paradigm in collegiate athletics. Forget the "student athlete" nonsense and just move towards some system of payment for the athletes. Drop the facade. If the unx's of the world are gonna create degrees in "Eligibility" what's the point? Heck , if Duke is endeavoring to provide a legit education to kids and holding 'em responsible for academic achievement ( while , say , unx doesn't ) then Duke has played in their last Final Four. unx cheated under the guise of some "carolina way" bs. Imagine what they can do without having to hide any of it? Unless the NCAA is planning on some such arrangement ( so they can still get a cut. $ ) then a wristslap for the holes is their death knell.

Don't worry, the NCAA has this under control. Why else would Mike Eades and Michael Stephens get ref assignments for the Final Four?? Its a conspiracy within a conspiracy...but I'm afraid some ppl at THR have already sniffed it out
