What did we learn from the first month of the season?

First off, Bagley has been better than I thought he would be. He is some kind of good. The kid is posting double doubles in almost effortless fashion. He's so good, Carter who reminds me of a taller Elton Brand, is looked at as the sidekick. This Duke team has some young talent.
The biggest reason though, and I've said it many times, to me is the unselfishness of Allen. I think he puts the team over his personal stat line. I don't have the stats in front of me, so I may be wrong, but he has only had one game where he took more than 15 shots, and that happened to be the game against MSU where of course Bagley only played the first 10 minutes.
When you have a kid who is not just a senior, but a really good one on top of that, being a fascilitator for others, that should make all Duke fans smile. We played a weak team last night, and Bolden had a good game, as did many others. Bagley had another double double, but Grayson only took 5 shots, and had 14 points, 6 assists and 5 rebounds.
What Allen has shown in the first month is true leadership, and because of that alone, right now we are the best team in the country. My hope is 3 months from now, we can say the same thing. That will be a compliment to the whole team, but their has to be a leader, and I think Duke has the best one in all of college ball.

Yes. It is great to see him take 5 shots in a blowout win. It also great to see him take over when we really need him to. I think Grayson does this all season. If we need a big shot, or big game, he'll be there. Otherwise, he'll efficiently lead the team each night and create for others. He seems to be having a lot of fun this season.

-We are the most talented team in the country
-We need to improve on defense
-We seem to be continually improving and gaining confidence
-If we can find another consistent shooter besides Allen, we will be damn near unstoppable

The Good- there isn’t a team that can beat us when we are playing at our best. That’s great news. If Allen and Trent are hitting it is nearly impossible to beat us. Match that with this teams will to win and calmness in crisis, along with two go to players down the stretch and we have the tools to win it all, no question.

The improvements- need to play with good sound basketball IQ for 40 min, that means eliminating the mental farts and lapses this team seems to have. Young and talented that will happen. They have to understand that you only get one shot at this and it takes one hot shooting team (see AZ in ‘11) to end your season. Cutting down the unnecessary TOs is a by product of a sharper focus and attention to detail. They will lose a few games in conference and it will hopefully only make them stronger and more keenly aware of this.

I think the key thing is that this year Duke can go down low for an easy 2 or at least free throws in the event the shooting gets cold for stretches in a game. That hasn’t been the case since Oak left. Now Duke can throw down low to Bags, Carter, and even Bolden to at least get a point blank shot attempt. That’ll be key down the stretch, and with Trent and Allen shooting like last night they won’t lose too many games this year
