I was trying to distinguish between a formal draft and "conscription of that sort."

I think you accidentally said it the way you really see it the first time: it's Dear Leader's house and he can act however he wants free from any decorum, propriety, restraint, or respectability.

You're not surprised I defend Trump. I think he said exactly what needed to be said. I'm disappointed you're defending Zelensky, but not surprised.

I think you're going to defend him regardless.

A few issues you might want to get ready to defend:
* halting aid to Ukraine, announced in the last hour or so
* how the CDC is doing with the measles outbreak in Texas
* aggressive tariffs against our closest neighbor & closest ally in Canada and other closest neighbor & pretty close ally in Mexico
* our President's threat to cut funding for colleges that allow "illegal" protests

Yes, I’m going to defend him almost all the time. Do I like the way he sometimes speaks? No. But I look past words. Washington has been a cesspool for way too long.
The party that has long been against wars/wasteful spending, are the same people whining about Trump helping to end to Ukraine/Russia war. Talk about rich. As I type this, Zelensky has posted on X that he wants to negotiate an end to the war.

On tariffs, it is long overdue. Trump’s purpose is to get more goods made here. Will we pay more for some things? Possibly. I can’t think of the other company, but I’ve heard Honda just announced it’s going to have a factory here instead of out of the country.

Trump SHOULD cut funding to universities that allow “illegal” protests. The key word here? ILLEGAL.

I have heard third-hand about Ukrainian men being abducted and forcibly enlisted. Hearrrrrrrrrrd.

The last time the US had conscription of that sort was during the Civil War, which was, of course, the last time a war was fought on US soil. Poland used 12-year-olds during WW2. A bunch of Central African countries are using child soldiers right now.

It's an awful thing, but in an occupied country where those same people may be just as likely to be killed by the invading military, there is important context and extenuating circumstances. It doesn't make it any less awful, but it does make it more understandable and regrettable.

That Honda factory is opening next month. Trump didn't do that.
Canada and China have already announced tariffs on American-made products, and Mexico is close behind.
Pay attention to what RFK, Jr is saying or not saying about measles. You'll have to diversify your media because right-wing media is ignoring it.
The key thing are those quotation marks around the word illegal. What epidemic of "illegal"
protests are happening on college campuses? Or is it just anything our President doesn't like? Do you really think he has a clear grasp on what is or isn't illegal?

I said I haven't followed the measles. I've also admitted I don't watch a lot of news, but as usual, nice swing and miss. On the college protest? You asked a question, so I answered it. One "illegal" protest is one too many.

Again though, you've done what you're a master at, which is come up empty.
 
It is so easy to criticize Trump for putting tariffs on our neighbors, but nobody cares that our neighbors have tariffs on us.

I will wait to see if the outcome meets the intent. Which is to encourage businesses and manufacturers to invest in America. If that happens, the short term pain will pay off. If not, then it will go down as a huge failure and will have consequential impacts on the midterms. Either way, I wish people cared equally about how we are treated to how much they care about how Trump treats other countries.
