We are not rounding up and deporting 11 million undocumented immigrants. We lack the resources and their departure would cripple the economy. Every right wing politician playing you like a fiddle with their rhetoric about deportations knows this. Allowing them to get driver’s licenses accepts this reality and makes the roads safer, just like teaching sex ed that includes birth control acknowledges the reality that people will continue to have sex, but reduces unwanted pregnancies. It’s logic.

As far as deporting 11 million people. It's probably more like 25 million at this point. But let's pretend that I understand how difficult that would be and talk about what to do first. When there is an oil leak in a well, you don't start cleaning the leak first. You find the leak and stop it. Then you start the clean up process. We have to stop flow of thousands of daily crossings, get the border under control and then focus on deporting the most crucial groups of criminals in order. Starting with violent and high risk people. Including the ones on terror watch lists. Human traffickers, drug traffickers and people who have been deported previously for various reasons.
