What I want to know is how in the world did fedora think he could pull this one off. Did he think no one in power over in chapel heel knew who beckman was. That's pretty arrogant if you ask me. It's just a matter of time folks before fedora bust the bean. OFC
No accountability and arrogant. He didn't clear the hire with Folt....he may not have cleared it with Bubba. Here's a guy who handed out wrist-slaps to the thugs who beat up the walk-on and didn't do anything at all to the jerks who trashed Duke's locker room. Heck , after that game Bubba pledged to pay for the damage. But when he got the bill he took one look at it and questioned it. He thought it was a little high. That's the attitude over there...always has been. The more they cheat with impunity the bolder they get. All of this merely proves what we've always known. There are no "reforms." There is no "moving forward." The "carolina commitment" is pure PR. Cheat for 20 years then just stop when busted? Please. The only thing unx is changing are the methods. Its my understanding the Beckman hiring may have been in violation of an NCAA bylaw in terms of his ON FIELD participation as a VOLUNTEER COACH....The instant his picture on the field interacting w/a Tar Heel player hit the N&O he was out the door...
The Fed merely wanted the ex Illini coach on his staff this year(regardless of his checkered past) for a quick scouting report on Beckman's old team who he visits this year.....Bubba gave it a quick wink and a nod, Carol a shout and out!!! I can't even imagine in my wildest dreams or many other coaches having anything to do with Beckman. And we thought Butch Davis had some credibility issues. Yes unc is now one of those types of program. OFC
Went to a high school football game tonight and saw some old goo friends. Of course they started giving me a hard time about Duke and I was ready for them. A NCSU fan and I ganged up on one of them when he went after Coach K and his profanity. Both of us jumped all over the academic scandal and I ask him if he posted on thr. Then we went after fedora and how stupid he was with the Beckman thing. He actually admitted how stupid it was and I then reminded him of mike nifong and his latest news making. He graduated from unc about the same time as nifong and john edwards and how he felt to be classmates of both. I also reminded him that the dirt is still under the rug. My NCSU friend just sat and took it all in but my unc friend started it. I went to use the restroom at half time and ran into a couple more unc fans/friends and of course they stated about Duke because I was wearing a poncho in Duke colors. I told them how stupid can a football coach get in regards to fedora. They actually didn't have an answer other than it was stupid. Well my alma mater lost but I still had a great night in the rain. It's a testament to the shamelessness/stupidity/arrogance/all of the above in unc fans that they still talk at all. Honestly , the day Duke is exposed to the same extent unx is? I'd like to think I'd have the good sense to know when to stfu.

Long: UNC cheating scandal is wake-up call
So I’ve followed for a while the academic scandal that’s been broiling at the University of North Carolina with some interest, and have grown more and more disturbed the more I learn. It ought to be a wake-up call for athletics and academics alike.
We all — sports fans, the NCAA, sportswriters, the conferences, the individual schools — should use this ugly news coming out of Chapel Hill as a teachable moment. It’s one thing to admit a viable candidate to a school because he or she, while not an academic star, brings something else to the table (athletic prowess). It’s another thing to cheat, or overlook cheating, to keep that student enrolled when he or she can’t or won’t handle the academic load. North Carolina (and I have no illusion that it’s the only school up to such shenanigans) has done the students no favors, after all. And they’ve sent a terrible message to students who maybe can’t hit the three-pointer: cheating is an acceptable option.

The NCAA ruling came down late Tuesday night and the Pirates released the news Wednesday.
"Obviously it's very disappointing," Montgomery said. "More so for not having the chance for him to be around our team on the field. He's worked really hard to get to where he is."

I don’t know any more than this USAToday story. Many of Bubba’s colleagues are expressing “bewilderment” with his decision.

The student will hold a news conference with her father and attorney Tuesday afternoon to discuss her case.
In announcing the news conference, the student said she was raped on Valentine’s Day at Ram Village, an on-campus apartment complex. She said she had been drinking and then found herself alone with a male student.
She said she reported what happened to the UNC campus police and the university’s Title IX office, which handles complaints of sexual assault and harassment. She said she also went to the hospital, where evidence was collected in a rape kit. But so far, the university and the judicial system have not acted to prosecute the case, she alleged.
UNC faces a pending federal complaint by former students and a former administrator who said the university mishandled sexual assault cases and the reporting of sex crimes.
