Do these guys have amnesia or lack simple math skills? Villanova has not beat one top ten team, but because we struggled in a game it erases our 3 top ten ROAD wins? Not that it matters tonight, but it seems like the media's primary objective is to make Kentucky invincible and Duke overrated despite what happens on the court. If we cant defend the dribble drive, how do we have so many wins?

I think you're being paranoid. Our wins can't be ignored, but losses shouldn't be either. If we had lost tonight there's no reason we should have been on the 1-line.

I thought there reasoning of Nova possibly being more deserving was funny as hell..... Because they defend better and shoot free throws better

Whatever the hell equates too ??

What a joke those comments were about Nova bumping Duke if they lost. Look at Nova's resume and tell me they belong in the conversation with Duke as a 1 seed. Nova's schedule is beyond weak.

Exactly! Villanova is a better free throw shooting team so they deserve a 1 seed. I think they are legit, but come on, their resume is nowhere near ours.
To add to those statements, Stephen A Smith said we would not win a championship because of the free throw line. Thats not paranoia.

Not a Stephen A. Smith fan in the least, but his statement right now does hold some merit. Duke has got to perform better at the charity stripe in the tournament, or it will be lights out. OFC

Villanova fan here (I come in peace). It's funny how different fanbases can react to the same discussion. Our fans think ESPN hates us and is discounting our resume in favor of the more "traditional" powers. There is some truth to that, as Villanova has been overlooked to an extent. That being said, I don't think any rational Villanova fan thinks we should be ahead of Duke right now. Duke has certainly played a tougher schedule and has a couple better wins (whoever said our schedule was "beyond weak" is not actually paying attention- it's not as good as yours but that doesn't mean its terrible). In fact, the team Villanova fans think we should be seeded higher than is Gonzaga. If you use the same argument for Duke being ahead of Villanova (SOS and quality of wins), then shouldn't Villanova be ahead of Gonzaga? ESPN says some silly things (like that whole free throw argument), but I think we're both lucky they aren't the ones picking the brackets. Good luck to Duke. I, for one, think your big 3 of Okafor, Jones, and Cook is good enough to take you all the way.

Nice post that makes a lot of sense. If Villanova were to play Gonzaga, I would be in your camp. Good luck the rest of the year. OFC

I totally understand where you are coming from. I think Nova has been overlooked to an extent. They are winning big late in the season and I know they have at least five Top 25 wins. If we lost last night, I absolutely think a 2-loss Nova team should be ahead of us. Losing to VT is about as bad of a loss you can have. But we survived. Now the question is, if Nova runs the table where do they end up? I think we will lose a game, Gonzaga may lose a game, and UVA could lose 2 games. Under either scenario I think Nova gets a top seed.

Good luck the rest of the way.

Thanks for the kind words. Nova has to be careful Saturday at Xavier. They're up and down (even at home) but they're desperate after getting swept by St Johns. The consensus it that 1 more regular season loss probably ends any shot of a 1 seed, although a couple losses like you mentioned from Duke or UVa could open things up. Regardless of who gets what seed, there should be some real battles in March.

If Villanova is a one seed then I'm a monkey singin the blues. Give me a freakin break. Do we have a couple stumbles? Sure. But our overall resume speaks for itself. Call me a homer, but I think right now we should be the number two overall seed.

Over UVA? No way. Especially how they played last night down 2 starters compared to us. I know we beat UVA, but we also lost to NC. St., Miami, and ND. They lost to the #4 team in the country, and that's it. They have a higher RPI, BPI. And our SOS is only marginally better (11 compared to 19). We have better wins, certainly, but I think they deserve the East Region as the #2 overall.

Hopefully we will get another shot at them in a couple weeks and can change that.

If I'm not mistaken, Duke has more top 50 wins than anyone in the country, and almost all of them have been on the road or at neutral sites. I genuinely think Duke has an argument for the second best overall resume. UK hasn't lost and that is a hell of a trump card, and they will justly be the overall #1. But even they don't have anywhere close to the wins Duke can boast. And the way Miami and NC St. are playing, those are moving away from "bad loss" territory.

Duke is 10-2 against the RPI Top 50. Villanova is 9-1 against the RPI Top 50.
Duke is 4-0 against the RPI Top 25. Villanova is 6-1 against the RPI Top 25.
Duke is 15-3 against the RPI Top 100. Villanova is 14-2 against the RPI Top 100.

Villanova's RPI is 4. Duke's RPI is 5.
Villanova's Conference RPI is 2. Duke's Conference RPI is 3.

If you ask me, the resumes are almost identical.

If Villanova does get a one seed, please let us be the two in that region.....,please!!!

I watched the NC St. and Miami games. No matter how you cut it, they were bad losses. So was the Villanova loss to Georgetown.
