Coleman enters transfer portal

Coleman probably made the right move for himself; and I don't blame him. He probably viewed Theo John as recruiting over him; but we needed size and depth. But that is why I am losing interest. Players are only thinking of themselves. It's never about the team. Winning is almost just an afterthought or bonus. It's get to the NBA as fast as possible or transfer if you don't get minutes. Or even if you do get minutes. I suppose they don't owe us anything. The flip side is we don't owe them anything either. Sorry for the rant just feeling disappointed. I wish Henry well. Three forwards in this class and they are all gone by April.

Plus, he seems like a great kid too. So, it sucks to lose him. But, what can we as fans do? Nothing. We will have a team next year. Just not sure who is going to be on it right now.
Him and Brakefield seem like quitters to me. Taking their ball and quitting because they aren’t being given starters minutes without earning them. Hope Coleman goes to UNC. He can sit on the bench there as well behind Brady Manek (the Oklahoma transfer).

Maybe it’s me, but I just don’t get why grown men are in their feelings about ANY player choosing to leave (for whatever reason). Just wish him well and go about your day. He was certainly a player for the future, but he’s not a key piece to what we have planned for next season. We don’t know why these kids are leaving Duke, but judging by the posts and others on social media, I think I possibly see why *Kanye shrug*
I have a thought. It’s because it’s college basketball not the league. This year especially isn’t college ball. Look at the team. Should Duke win number six that means the possibly one player returns to build around. Blake. Your also hoping that kid wants to wait his turn and no I don’t think they will change the transfer rule back.
Also , no one is telling these kids what to do or holding them at Duke. In every commitment statement all referred to saying,” proud to be a member of the brotherhood!” So that’s a statement only for the moment. It’s simple kids come, don’t like their playing time or earning it so they bounce. And yes every player already knew who was on roster and who was being recruited.
I think Coleman could have been good for Duke but look at the out come
Four out of last years freshman are gone, one may be on his way out ( No one knows especially with no one seeing Stewart bolting for the pro’s)
Give me ten kids that buy into a program. Not for money but for heart the right to play ball at the highest level for the history of a program not the dollar signs you can show them.
College might as well just go to the new gleague.

Stop with the slave comment. Jeez. But, there is a pecking order. It's really that simple. Don't spin this to a racist thing Ace.
You’re the one that brought up power and control. It seems like you only like it when it’s one way. Hmmm, what does that sound like? So, the pecking order, bahahahahahaha.....I think people come to the games to watch the players....pecking order bahahahahaha....but keep going

I hear ya man. I guess I just hate to see him leave because I can see what he could be at Duke in the future. But, it is what it is. At the end of the day, there are far worse things going on in the world right now to be upset about than Duke basketball.
Preach! I hate to see him leave too. But bitchin about players having too much power and Coach K should’ve retired in 2019 is some of the dumbest takes I’ve ever heard on this board coming from grown ass men. I’m just sayin

You really have no clue. There’s more fans out there that are frustrated with the college and pro game than there are that share your views. Who do you think buys the tickets to the games? Sports are broken, you just refuse to see it.
Of course the fans come to the game to watch the players. But without the other part, Lebron would only be the best player on Cleveland’s playground.

This has been the worst Duke year ever for me. At least the 95 team stuck around and got better. What are we building towards? In 2022 we will have a completely new roster.

They do come to watch the players. The players who CHOOSE to come to Duke. You make it sound like someone forced them to commit to Duke. It was their choice .

Hate it that Coleman left but I never saw any reason why he should play 20 plus minutes a game.
Loved his hustle and energy but he needed better post moves if that is where he will play . I however think he needed a midrange jump shot similar to what Brooks had last year at UNC.

This is a sign. K moved him out for Baldwin. I can feel it. Forget a role player... get that talent in. Last rodeo right here for K. PLEASE COACH HARD THIS YEAR

yeah, there are way more fans who wants what’s best for players than the ones who think this is 1950 or 1990. Sports isn’t broken, the people who think they can control the players are broken

Hope you are right. Been wanting Baldwin at Duke for last 2 years. Love his Klay Thompsonlike jumper and his commitment to play great defense. Roach, AJ,PB, Moore, Trevor, Banchero and Mark= The Magnificent 7. Add John and and we have the Blue Devil Hateful 8.

All that’s fine and dandy and I agree. But if you ask me if you’re genuine with your “wish him well “ bs, then I call bs..... Ok yea you can wish him well blah blah....BUT in the back of your mind you’re angry😂 cut the shit.

If Mark leaves...I’m treating next year like this year. I hope we win, but I’m not much interested..

I’m in my feelings . I don’t like it. Yeaaaa I wish them well but at the same time I’m in my feelings ...
I feel your pain but I don’t think we’re ever going back to the way it used to be. I’ve decided to just roll with it cus I’ve become disenchanted with a lot of things , but I gotta stay positive about something and I’ve drawn the line in the sand at Duke Basketball

Maybe it's the new way of things but it stinks. I just want to cry. RIP 4 year Duke guy. I will never say those words again. Although Baker and Moore may still yet make it. Goldwire was a 4 year guy. The Brotherhood thing is becoming more and more ridiculous. Sorry but you can't have it both ways.

The Times They Are a-Changin'. I think we're in a new age. Not sure what to think of it or the future of the game at this point. I will say that we will be a damn sight better next year than we were last year. Baker and Moore may just be four year guys though. I see no reason for either of them to leave. Of course, I didn't think Henry would transfer either. If we get Mark back and lose no one else this board will be a lot happier come this time next year.

We have to recruit one and dones and transfers moving forward. transfers with more than a year. this is DUKE. Any player that even gets an offer from here think they're headed to the pros after a year or two based solely off playing at Duke. If they don't make the rotation they will leave UNLESS they are a Goldwire that knows his role coming in and he just so happen to develop and be good. The quicker we accept this the less hair we will pull out of our heads. NBA will not change that rule and the transfer portal is officially open for business.

And it’s their choice to leave as well. NEXT
Your missing the point period! You make it sound like these kids didn’t know their role prior to coming in. Therefore some would be right in being a little upset seeing as how this is College an actual team sport not free agency in the league .
This is also why the NBA will always want one and done because like your argument they won’t make kids stay more then a year in college .

Also just like every year if your not going to play your bench due to this talent then no one has the right to bash a kid for his production or progress. I’m glad Coleman left . Not because I didn’t want him at Duke but because he wanted more then two minutes a game . Which he would of had next year however who’s to say for sure.

We will never know how good he could have been at Duke. Didnt get a shot this year and so he's gone. As others have said, hard to be a college hoops fan..but i think its even harder to be a college hoops coach at the moment. The rules wont allow you to build anything, since the portal and the eligibility rules create free agency. If you dont play star freshmen reasonable mins in their first season, expect this to happen over and over. Sad.

Well we better win next year because we are mortgaging our future for it. I really liked this last class but they are leaving one by one. I thought we are building for the future. What happened to all these guys saying they want to play for coach K?

Adios Coleman. Don’t let the door hit you on the azz on the way out.

My guess is the pain we are feeling is we are getting hit from 2 fronts. The tranfer portal and early entry. In a year where we thought we'd have a lot of guys back after missing the tournament.

I think Baker, Moore, and potentially Roach are on the roster in 2022-2023.
Could see those three for sure plus Blakes and Keels. Think that we land maybe one top 15 kid in the 2022 recruiting class and feel the other spots up with a couple 4* recruits who should be around 2-4 years and a couple transfers.

Folks begging for average to decent players who stick around multiple years should love the 22-23 team.

I could definitely see it. That's what makes Henry leaving so puzzling to me. He would've had a potentially large role on the 22-23 team.

Guess we'll never know but there were rumors of Henry weighing his options weeks ago. Which makes me wonder if we recruited Theo because Henry was leaving.

She brought a crutch into this thread lol, how can you even take her seriously? 😂

stop. The way Duke is rolling, they’ll sell out every year for stud Freshmen so being a tenured/experienced student athlete means little.

I think Coleman is a great kid but I am trying to understand this. What did he expect? He played; esp at the end of the year his minutes were on the rise. Brakefield was in the doghouse by year's end so at least that made sense. Henry was a borderline top 50 6-7 guy who couldn't shoot. Did he think we weren't going after anyone else? We've become forward U the last 10 years. He would have been a rotation guy next year and at worst a super sixth man by year 3.

Kids got until what , May 30 to make their intentions known I think.

Dukes roster might consist of all freshman, one sophomore and two grad transfers by that point.

I firmly believe that one of the reasons Duke is so successful in attracting top recruits is because they know that if they are good enough they will get all the minutes they can handle. None of the "we play 10 deep so you'll get your 20 minutes" philosophy. That same strategy may turn off the next tier that would deserve PT if they weren't playing behind a OAD player. I'm not sure there is a middle ground.
