2023 Commits

At least we got our starting 5 set for the 2023 season

I asked this earlier but who will be our big man for 2023? Borden, Flip if he stays second year, or transfer portal?

I got a question? The seven foot euro player on the bench as a walk on did he redshirt this season? Or is he just a body on the bench?

Walk on who earns a scholarship next year I would think. He seems to be a project. I am more intrigued by Christian Reeves.

Don’t think he needs a scholarship just wondering did they classify this year as a walk on year seeing as he didn’t play in a single game .

Flip looks a little overwhelmed so far. Dariq looks like the real deal. Haven't seen much of Lively

Somewhere I read that in a recruit's visit to Duke, they get a whole presentation by someone who is business-related about NIL opportunities. One recruit, again my memory fails me, was blown away with how well organized and professional the NIL opportunities are at Duke. I got the impression that it was head and shoulders over anything he saw at any other school. That right there might be one of the reasons Duke is doing so well. Along with everything else Duke offers.
I totally believe that the NIL era favors Duke. Duke has been way ahead of the rest of the pack in branding its program - Dave Bradley gets lots of credit for that. That has to have made our NIL efforts much more effective.

Flip ended pretty well with 8 boards, and good all around play. Lively had a quiet night, and did Mackenzie and Tyrese. Dariq was a stud, though.

I realize these are all star games, but this has been 2 games of "quiet" Lively. " We need him to be more than quiet next year. Probably too soon to tell, but he seems a little timid. I got spoiled this year with Banchero and Williams. We need a transfer bruiser.

They're all fairly thin for their height. It may work in HS but the next lever level is a different beast. Need some beef down there or we're gonna get dominated on the boards again. Both Bacot and Tshiebwe are rebounding machines. Even if we can find someone half as capable as them would be a win.

Lively and Whitehead are definitely one and done due to their upside. My hope is Flip and Mitchell are two and dones; but this is Duke so maybe one of them returns. Schutt is a likely 4 year guy.

Flip is in the top twenty of the NBA mock draft while Mitchell is early second round . Mitchell is intriguing but I hold reserve on him staying until after next season.

Need to circulate a petition to have Lively’s scholarship revoked. He sucks.

Damn, already talking about who’s leaving early next year and they haven’t even stepped foot on campus.
Because it’s not that hard to predict . And this is a 2023 thread just saying .

A lot of uncertainty with next year's team. We don't have a can't miss top 3 in the draft type guy like Banchero we can rely on to produce every night. Maybe Whitehead, maybe not. Our other guys seem more like Keels and AJ, good but perhaps very volatile in their first year. Roach seemed to turn a corner, but he was more of a role player and did not look good in the last game. Still he's solid, but while we underestimated him, it is possible we overestimated him in the tourament. He will be our leader. We did rely on Roach and Mark and Moore to be our consistent players by year's end, along with Banchero. My point is we need a transfer or two if no one returns, or we could experience a downturn. Not as bad as last year, but last year is proof that it can happen, even at Duke.

I mean now - he’s pretty slow laterally and not that long for a 6’10 guy. He’s a beefed up Hurt at this point. He will get better but as of now that top 20 pick is a bit lofty lol.

I don’t think Flip gives a Flip lol
Oh no not on one game. I’ve watched him play about 4-5 times online. He’s a good pickup but not top 20 as of now.

To be clear I’m saying he’s not a top 20 DRAFT pick. He’s a solid top 20 college recruit though.

I think he will fall somewhere in the middle of what people are saying. Hurt is a good comp as far as impact. It's a weak class that some of the top guys have reclassed. But he's still good. He had trouble getting his shot off at the Hoops Summit. Not as good a shooter as Hurt, but probably a better defender and rebounder. Decent year one and really good year two (hopefully) is my guess. Personally I don't like setting my expectation too high so I'm not disappointed. If he surpasses my expectations then it's a bonus.

If he stays where every mock draft has him he is gone. IMO Duke needs him to be worthy of that rank with nothing but freshman on the roster .

No Hurt is not. He comes in twice almost Hurts muscle and mass and is not afraid to mix it up down low . Hurt could not hold his own in the paint Flip can. I think he’s more skilled then the big at Wake forest who plays inside out who is a better comparison.
Hurt was listed as a small forward at 6’9” 190
Kyle is listed as a center at 6’11” 220.

You're spot on. Kyle is already coming in a better defender and rebounder than Hurt was at the same point.

I just want these guys to come in and be them. I want Scheyer to let them run their own race but if flip is on the perimeter more then in the paint that’s cause for concern . Him and lively must establish their paint presence then pull the big out past the free throw line to defend them. That will open up all kind of lanes . I have no problem with either taking smart or open three’s. But they must establish the post to help the perimeter.
