Lunardi’s latest has us DROPPING to a 7, and moving from the East (where we’d play our first game in Greensboro, 2nd round in our second home, NYC) to the South (where we’d play our first game in Columbus, second round in Louisville). But we’d also face Purdue as our second game in Louisville. I hope to God he’s confusing us with Duquesne.

They seem ... pretty fair. I'm pretty surprised Scheyer didn't get at least one vote for COY. I think Lively is the best defensive player in the league, but if you want to argue he fouls too much ... OK. Full disclosure: I don't have a vote.

If PITT wins out (finale at Miami), Pitt is the number one seed. If Duke wins out, ACC might have a lot of egg on its face over the UVA debacle...

The winner of that game tends to go farther in the NCAA Tournament than the loser (2014 and 2019 are the exceptions)

There is no such thing as an ACC regular season title. The winner of the tournament is the ACC Champion.

Scheduling for the 3-, 4- and 5-seed:

3-seed: First game is 9:30 on Thursday night, against either the 6-seed or the 11/14 winner.

4-seed: First game is 2:30 on Thursday, against either the 5-seed or the 12/13 winner.

5-seed: First game is 2:30 on Wednesday, against the 12/13 winner.

We are all assuming Cheats win game 1. Assuming BC wins vs Louisville, BC could beat the Cheats. Drop kicked UVA, lost to a “hot” GT. And it seems like a team who get a game under them, especially a 10-15 game (look at 2021 for us), that 10-7 game is ripe for upsets.

But my thought is we play the winner of FSU-GT in the quarters. The winner of Cuse-Wake gives Miami a game.

In both January and February, we will
play 8 ACC games. In January, we play 5 away and 3 home and in February we play 5 home and 3 away. What I love about the way our schedule sets up is our freshmen will have to grow up quickly and hopefully by the time February and March roll around, they will be more than prepared on how to handle hostile crowds and playing with adversity. I think by January, Lively and Whitehead will be more integrated into the offense and it will start to look better.

We’ve been spoiled by hitting our ceiling in November and December and now we have a chance to grow (through some growing pains) to hit our stride when it counts. I’m still optimistic about this team and I’m willing to go through the growing pains like I have with all of our young teams.

PS: less quicker quickity quick stuff: Hate to say it but it will certainly be interesting for the NIT committee on where they seed us cheats. I’m currently sitting on pins and needles on whether or not they could get to the 1 line with 1 (quick stuff here) quad 1 win.

Hines updates his overall recruitment sharing four teams making the extra push in his recruitment.

7 straight quarters (5 on the road) with holding opponent under 10 points. Miami is a pesky team, unranked, but knocked off FSU recently. Trying to get momentum heading into an important stretch against three of four ranked (and an upcoming trip to Virginia Tech and Virginia). If you are able, the women need people out against the Woofies and Cheats in Cameron February 23 and 26.

I think UNC has all the pressure on them in the dome with it being senior night and a pending NCAA bid at stake. The thought of an all world team getting sweep by a bunch of big eyed freshman.has to be in mind
Duke should come in full of confidence as it appears the road team usually ends up playing well. If Duke can keep the the turn overs low and shoot just shoot close to 40 percent than Duke will win unless Love and RJ go off for 30 a piece. I think Duke contains Bacot with Lively and double teams.
This must be the second senior night for Leaky.

This is a deep dive into, as the thread title says, a changing of the way college basketball staffs operate.

Obviously for the purposes of this board, the Duke dynamic is fascinating. Jon Scheyer wasn't going to overhaul much of what netted five national championships and such, but he's made tweaks within the program to suit his way of doing things and I think is one that's played a large role for Duke this season.

I guess I missed that Coach Brey isn’t retiring but just moving on from Notre Dame.

During last nights broadcast announcers stated that Brey will coach again.

Wonder where he may end up?

We get the woofies tonight in Cameron! Game is scheduled for 7pm on ESPN. At time of writing we are a 6.5 favorite.

We got blitzed in Raleigh by a good team but now it’s our turn to get revenge. This would end up being one of our better wins against a projected 9 seed in the tournament. Keats needed a good season to save his job and I think he did it but tonight we take care of business

How does the preseason number one team with fiour of their five starters coming back who were in the final two last year under achieve this bad. How does a bunch of juniors and seniors are an 8 and 8 team in the ACC.
UNC has to win out and make some noise in the ACC tourney or they are done.

Getting this up a day early and without the preview to make this note:

Duke doesn't have plans to honor any players for Senior Night on Tuesday. If you'll recall, the last couple of seasons have seen them establish a bit of a protocol that grad transfers aren't honored for Senior Night. It's going to be something that started under K and will remain that way under Scheyer, barring something changing in the next 48ish hours.

So when Ryan Young doesn't go through Senior Night on Tuesday, don't immediately read into it that he's coming back next season.

Actually we are 10-1 with the lone loss at UVA, but I’m counting that as a win (it was.)

This team is a headache, the turnovers and the 5 minute scoreless stretches drive me insane. However, the 2 most important things in tournament play are defense and guard play. I trust our defense, especially with Lively in. Guard play looks terrible 1 game and great the next, we need consistency.

If Whitehead continues to come off the bench, that is a huge weapon. He can score 15 in a game off the bench and win us a tough game. We really need a win tomorrow, call me crazy but with UNC’s continued struggles, it’s not out of the question for us to win all 5 remaining games.
