Transfer portal thread

I don't understand why people think Reeves would be ahead of Shedrick, a guy who started off and on at Virginia the last 2 seasons. Does Reeves turn into Ralph Sampson during closed practices? I love Young, but Shedrick would probably start over him too. Shedrick could get 20, Young 15 and Reeves 5 on average. Sherdick had a double double in the tournament when the starting center was injured.
We're not looking for Reeves to be Sampson, just better than what he was last season. He knows the system. The coaches know him. He can give you the same production as Lively.

Zero possibility.

If I’m being honest my dream is Shedrick AND Holmes comes. And Reeves transfers.

This team is going to be way too good to give important minutes to a guy that a lot of people are calling a “project” or a “mystery”. Just don’t know what’s there.
No way we want Reeves to transfer. We wasted a Red - Shirt, he's 6'11, and he has a summer to improve.

I'm fine with Shedrick because I liked what saw from watching him and Duke wouldn't look at a guy who Tony Bennett says is a problem.

We don't need a star. We don't need a guy who is unhappy with 20-25 minutes playing time. We need a guy who is going to do the dirty work and be happy playing before huge and noisy crowds. If Scheyer thinks it's Shedrick I'm good with that.

Agreed. I have no doubt Scheyer will do what he feels is best for the team, given the available players.

And this is what NIL gets college basketball. It’s like NBA free agency . You put together a big NIL package you get anyone you want ( seriously).
Let’s be honest . How many players have you actually seen in info commercials, chain restaurants and store openings or advertisements. They opened Pandora’s box with NIL and the portal not having to sit out .
Sorry for venting but might as well turn it into the NBA pre development league .

Good points. I haven’t seen the first commercial on tv or online with a current college athlete. The boosters are just funneling money through lawyers who make it look all nice and legal like It’s on a car dealership’s letterhead so it must be legit!!

Are there limits on NIL? What's to stop a Bill Gates from, say donating a billion dollars to the University of Washington or Oregon to buy a championship. He could pay kids a million dollars to endorse Microsoft. Have the entire starting 5 appear in a commercial. Do the same thing every year.

Look I get it . But their should be a cap . You have to even out the balance .
I have seen two Virginia players in foot sole info commercials so I won’t say all teams aren’t trying but I believe cap off all NILS . Players are already getting a free scholarship and housing . If a 100,000 can’t help them out in college after that then this is truly a developmental league .

It’s surprising that West Virginia is getting the attention of a lot of transfers. 🤔

Haha, bleed. If he's honestly our plan C or D, then I suppose it's not terrible. I just really wanted Holmes so Shedrick seems like such a letdown. I'll take him and I do like that he has 2 years left. His stats, along with the videos I've watched of him are really underwhelming. I've been in the camp that Flip is not a 5, but do we really start Young or Shedrick? I honestly hope not and we may have to get creative with the starting lineup because Shedrick is certainly not one of the five best players we have.

End of rant! Haha
I'm a lot higher on Shedrick than most. But I get it, man. I think he would be an asset for us for two years, though.

UConn big??

Heard a couple whispers but nothing else
One is going pro (Sanago) and the other has already announced he’s staying at UCONN (Clingan). Clingan will be the starter next year and I’m betting he has a monster season. Kid is a 3 level scorer, really good on defense, and is a good passer. Surprised he’s coming back. Would think that he could be the top big man taken in this draft based off his measurables and abilities to stretch defenses and block shots.

Bleed, what’s your guy saying about which big we’re getting?

Assuming Flip has a POY type season, we just need a big guy who does the dirty work. If Flip had gone pro I would definitely think we need more. I still think Young can improve if he improves his conditioning. Shedrick could give us about what Lively gave us last year, perhaps less on D but can score more. We will be better at the 1, 3, and 4 positions than we were this years assuming they improve.

I’ll start by saying I’m not sure who we should get. I just want a guy who can help Flip maximize his skills. I’m sure that guy is out there and I’m sure Scheyer knows who he wants.

A bird in the hand. I'd rather get Shedrick than have Holmes string us along and then go into the draft or another school. And he took a lot of shots at Dayton. Only one basketball. He'd have to accept a smaller role, and he is looking to boost his NBA stock if he returns.

I’m just interested in knowing why people think he will produce better at Duke ?
He’d be the last option on offense and unless he can average a block a game and double digit rebounding how is he an upgrade over young ?

I don’t know who Duke will get. But Shedrick is athletic, Young isn’t. He might be able to handle defensive switches better than Ryan. Plus, from what I’m hearing, Shedrick wants to be at Duke.

I’m also glad Ryan is back for another year.

We need a center to play great defense and protect the rim. Virginia is a team that thrives on defense and Shedrick wasn't even starting for them!! So I do not understand this love affair for Shedrick!! He played strong agianst us in one game and did very little else agianst anybody!! So he should be our last choice at best!!!

I get it but is he really an improvement over Young ? If Duke goes small what’s not to say it’s not in the front court?
I’d take a front court of Stewart, Mitchell and Flip any day of the week . That’s two bigs that can guard multiple positions and help Flip with rebounding and put backs .

Yeah, Duke could play small ball some. It might be a good lineup at times to do that. All I’m saying about Shedrick is he is athletic, and wants to be here.
I do think he could help, but I also don’t think Duke needs a dominant type center.

If Duke takes Shedrick, maybe between Young, Reeves, and him, they could combine to get the job done.
