Story on Trevor Keels/final scholarship

I'd personally say neither. I find it tough to make direct comparisons but to me, a little better version of Cassius Stanley.
I would say he’s a smaller version of RJ Barrett . He can handle the ball and score from multiple angles and defend .

I think Whitehead can be a good 2, the problem is who would then play the 3? If it's Mitchell, we are huge but slower and look like a poor three point shooting team. If it's Catchings or Baker, those freshmen will be absolutely relied on for big scoring each and every night.

But that has been Duke’s theme. Weak at three point shooting and relying on freshman to score . Mitchell can play the three given he does the bulk of his scoring around the rim and isn’t a great three point shooter. I get everyone wants either Keels or a sg from the portal . Duke fans will know in the next two weeks of Keels intentions.

But this year we had Moore and Williams. That's why we need Keels back.
What are you saying here , Chris? You talking about because one was a sophomore and the other a junior ?
If Keels has a poor showing in the camps and workouts I’m sure he will return . Don’t forget it doesn’t have to be necessarily a sg . Duke could get a good small forward as well with experience and that can shoot . The only real factor is Roach will have to play on the ball a lot this year which is fine with me . The rest can play multiple positions except Schutt and Lively . It’s going to be interesting

I just meant because we had 3 guys, including Roach back last year. Baker doesn't play all that much. We need more experience. We had guys like Moore and Williams and Roach who were consistent. Banchero was consistent, but the other two were not. If Whitehead can play the two then we can get a 2 or a 3 in the portal I agree. Keels back is best, as even a portal guy will be new to the team.

Read an article today from SI that said don’t be surprised to see Keels stay in the draft and go 25-35. He could come back and get into the early first round but it all depends on if he’s happy where he might be picked .
Got a question ? Is the g league elite camp a try out for the team for players who might not get drafted ? Some of the invites are late second round picks.

Adam Finkelstein reporting that Trevor had a very good workout and looked leaner. Said he "looked noticeably leaner, making shots at a high level, and speeding up his release. He looked every part of a big guard who is going to be able to make shots and defend at the NBA level." We better get on that portal. The way this is handled by Jon may determine how far we go next year. These things matter. We cannot come out of this empty handed.

I just want every fan to understand it won’t be that easy to get good players out the portal giving the freshman Duke have coming in.

True but the Zion team also had Jack, Bolden, Goldwire and O'Connell. And Vrank and Robinson.

We're also losing 5 NBA first rounders if Keels goes. I'm happy with our recruiting class but that is a historic level of talent out the door. We need to reload if Trevor leaves. I'm pretty sure the coaching staff know this. All that said Trevor could still return.

Isn't AJ Green part of that G League Elite group?

Patrick Baldwin has slipped to the early 2nd round in some mocks. I would be happy with getting him in the portal, if Trevor stays in. Gotta think he'd have a nice second year. He could put him at the 3.

I'm guessing a lot of these big-time transfers are aware of Keels - and know that if he comes back, they don't have a realistic shot at being in the starting five. But, if Keels is gone, the door is wide open for the likes of AJ Green, Isiaih Mosley, Malachi Smith, Josh Minott, etc.

All of those guys have entered the draft with the possibility of returning, just like Keels. So, odds are they probably wouldn't seriously consider a school until early June.

Chris just heard this yesterday from a pretty solid source: The Cheats are apparently looking at him pretty hard??? Now I haven't seen the kid play, but recall us recruiting him hard prior to him signing with his dad who coached the U of Wisc-Milwaukee team. Of course "pops" was fired this year and is free agent now too,,,Package deal perhaps somewhere, w/dad as assistant?? OFC

Agreed Devz. From what I am reading, our best shots are with Green and Smith.I would be fine with either at the TWO SPOT.

Schutt is slower and less athletic than Grayson. He is ranked closer to O'Connell. But if he can hit shots he will play. Could be a nice 4 year guy who could start in a few years if he is patient. His ceiling is AJ Green.

Schutt is a sg and I’m still in the camp that Whitehead will spend a lot of time at sg should Duke not get Keels back .
but i dont think schutt threatens a seasoned kid in the portal.....i agree though, that if we dont land anyone and keels still leaves, then riq it is at the 2g....or scheyer could give schutt the scheyer treatment and throw him in there the same way K did him ???
