Do you think they will retire Quinn's number? I personally don't think it will. Does he deserve it, probably and especially after what he's done for this year's team. I loved watching Quinn develop over the last four years and if you think about it, his role has dang near changed every year and he's adapted well.

Fraid not. 12 goes up before 2 ever does, but Quinn's name will still always be remembered and honored in our home nonetheless.

It's not even kind of close. His number won't get retired.

Look at it this way....not one of Jon Scheyer, Kyle Singler or Nolan Smith have their number retired. And two of them scored over 2,000 points with Nolan being over 1,900.

I'm not sure Quinn makes even one of the qualifications to have his number retired. And that's not an indictment on him whatsoever. He was a stud....but so were a lot of other guys before him.

Unfortunately I doubt it will be but IMHO it should be with how much he has improved over the last 4 years. I might be wrong but I seem to remember that a player usually has to win some kind of player of the year award to have their number retired at Duke but like I said I might be wrong about that.

I hope Quinn has a chance to play in the NBA. It is probably a long shot for the NBA but maybe overseas. However, his dedication to the team and improving over 4 years, his love for Duke and closeness to coach K leads me to believe that Quinn will have a future at Duke. I could see him as a coach or associated with the athletic department in some capacity. I don't see his jersey in the rafters but I do see him on the court.

He was a senior starter and captain on a National Championship team, and a terrific representative of the university. As a result, his name will live on forever in Duke lore. But numbers aren't retired at Duke unless you win NPOY, NDPOY, or set a record.

Quinn has and always will be one of my favorite Duke players, but it is not even debatable. 0 chance of it happening, but he will always be tied to Duke, along with the many others that didn't have theirs retired. Thanks for everything Quinn!!
Go Duke!!

I think he will make an NBA team as a Isaih Thomas/ Nate Robinson/ Ben Gordon type of player. He can be a backup PG/SG . Chalmers.,Cole and Hindrick are three others who have had good careers. If he can shoot 35 percent plus from 3 pt land he will stick with a team.

If a player can have their number retired by setting a record. What kind of record would a player need to set to have his number retired? Quinn set a Duke record for consecutive games making at least one 3 pointer. So if a player can have their numbers retired for setting a record then shouldn't that qualify Quinn to have his number retired?

As an SID, I like cool little tidbits like the three streak. But in all actuality, that three streak does not really mean anything...

Sadly, Quinn was not invited to the Portsmouth Inviotational that showcases seniors for the NBA prior to draft

K has said it requires a national record. The prime example is Bobby Hurley. He was never a POY but he left Duke as the country's all-time assist leader, and his number hangs.

There have been a lot of guys who did special things at Duke including winning conference POY, like Chris Carrawell, or winning CPOY and a national championship, like Nolan Smith, whose numbers don't hang. K has said it is the hardest place in the country to get your number retired, and I kind of like that (vs. a UNC where if you start 12 games in your career, your number goes up).

"Though there is no 'official' criteria to have a jersey retired at
Duke, a player must achieve at a national level - earn National
Player of the Year or National Defensive Player of the Year honors,
set an NCAA record, win a gold medal representing his country in the
Olympics or earn All-America recognition. What distinguishes Duke's
retired jersey players from many other schools is the main criteria.
No jersey will be retired at Duke unless the player has earned his
degree."

This is from the Duke media guide. For now Quinn only meets the standards of graduation and a gold medal. He will not have the #2 retired. Nolan actually would hold that honor over him IMO and that isn't happening either. This is why Duke has the hall of honor. Quinn will be recognized there.

This is also why I think UNC gets something right. I think Duke should have jersey honors AND retirements. What would the harm be (besides exceeding structural weight limits) in honoring players in that way? Guys like Steve Vacendak and Mike Lewis and Jim Spanarkel and Kyle Singler and Nolan Smith and Jon Scheyer and DeMarcus Nelson and now Quinn Cook and many others (Gene Banks, Bill Werber...) deserve to be recognized in the building and space in which they showed their greatness. I've said this for a while on this board and in person, but I would love to see Duke hang some jerseys in honor in blue and retired in white. Just a wish of mine.

Come on guys every time we win a NC this comes up. The criteria for retiring a Duke # is clearly defined. I'm not going to post it go look it up. If Duke had retired every # that we think they should we would be out of numbers. OFC

Agreed about some for of recognition for those who miss the retirement cut. B/c of how many great players that play here, we can't retire the jersey of everyone who steps foot on campus -- and have to reserve it for the special few who make an indelible mark on the program for a sustained period (b/c otherwise we'd have to retire like 30 more jerseys). With that said, UNC's approach is right in my view. Guys like Nolan Smith, Scheyer, Singler, Mason Plumlee, Duhon, Cook, etc. deserve some recognition -- and frankly, most programs would retire their jerseys if they had similar career successes (in terms of individual honors and team accomplishments). I think that particularly makes sense in view of the current one-and-done system, which is unlikely to produce many future players who can meet all of the traditional criteria for getting their jerseys retired (particularly the graduation piece) -- i.e., are we really not going to do anything to honor kids like Okafor / Winslow who were the foundation of a national title team? While we don't have enough room to hang 50+ jerseys in cameron, I do think we could have a large banner or couple large banners that list out the guys who hit some other major criteria, such as AA, final four MOP, ACC POY, or ACC First Team.
