So while we are waiting for Duval, Knox, Allen and maybe Jackson to make up their minds lets do this. Pay close attention to the rules. What is your best MLB line up of the players you have SEEN on television or in person play in your life time. I don't think we will see any Babe Ruth's or Lou Gehrig unless it's Heyman 25 or oldasdirtdevil but let's give it a shot. All these players would be in their prime years.
Here's my team. You can have a D.H. if you want to because it's our lifetime.
Leading off
1. CF. Willie Mays. Best all around player I saw. Could lead off with a home run, great, great defensive player and wonderful human being. B. A. .302, H.R's 660, Hits 3,285 R.B.I. 1,903
2. DH. Mickey Mantle. Oh yeah. Switch hitter who could follow Mays with a H.R. or lay down a bunt. Could give our outfielders a break also. B.A. .298, H.R's 536, Hits 2,415, R.B.I. 1,506
3. 3B. Mike Schmidt. Power and defense even though he wasn't near a .300 hitter he's my 3rd baseman. B.A. .267, H.R's 548, Hits 2,234, R.B.I. 1,595.
4. RF. Hank Aaron. Just look at his stats and nothing else needs to be said. B.A. .305, H.R.'s 755, Hits,3.771, R.B.I. 2,297.
5. 1B. Albert Pujols. Still playing so his stats will go up. B.A. .309, H.R.'s 592, Hits 2,834, R.B.I. 1,824.
6. LF. Stan Musial. Yes I saw him play although it was near the end of his career and I was very young. B.A. .351, H.R.'s 475, Hits 3.630, R.B.I. 1,951
7. 2B. Joe Morgan. The start up of "The Big Red Machine" . When all was said and done he was the best I've seen. Good glove, had power and speed. He might have not liked batting 7th but he would get over it in this line up. If not I would just replace him with Ryan Sandburg. B.A. .271, H.R.'s 268, Hits 2,517, R.B.I. 1,133
8. SS. Derek Jeter. In my eyes the best S.S. I ever saw. Great attitude and wouldn't give it a thought batting 8th. Team player and clutch hitter. B.A. .310, H.R.'s 260, Hits 3,465, R.B.I. 1.311
9. C. Yogi Berra. Yes I think he was better than Bench or anyone else. 3 time M.V.P. Great D, had power and good average hitter. Could care less about batting 9th but would be concerned about Willie or Mickey catching him on the base path. B.A. .285, H.R. 358, Hits 2,150, R.B.I. 1,430.
Starting pitching
Sandy Koufax Wins 165- Losses 87 E.R.A. 2.76 K's 2,396
Bob Gibson Wins 251- Losses 174 E.R.A 2.91 K's 3,117
Greg Maddux Wins 355- Losses 227 E.R.A. 3.16 K's 3,371

Steve Carlton Wins 329- Losses 244 E.R.A. 3.22 K's 4,136
Bull pen. With these starters and their ability to go long into games I only need 3.
Goose Gossage I had the privilege of hearing him warm up once.
Saves 310 E.R.A. 2.05
Hoyt Wilhelm Hoyt who. Had a nasty knuckle ball that I think would be fun to see the opposition swinging at the thing. Saves 227 E.R.A. 2.52
Closer Mariano Rivera. His stats tell it all. Saves 652 E.R.A. 0.70
Reserves Johnny Bench, Ryan Sandberg, Cal Ripkin Jr., Dave Winfield, Ken Griffey Jr. , Don Mattingly and Carl Yastrzemski. That's 24.
None of my players are connected to steroids. OFC
