Official Gameday thread- Duke vs Syracuse

Duke heads north to NY to take on the orange.. Game is scheduled for a 6pm tip on ESPN. Duke is currently a 1.5 favorite at time of writing.

Syracuse is sitting at 16-10 and needs a good finish to the year to try to get in the tournament. We all know duke needs the win as well to help solidify the bid we expect. Jimmy B seems to just kinda be there and gets crankier every season, I lost all respect for him as a coach after the year he pulled that crap in Cameron. Cuse is coming off a good win over nc state and are currently on a 3 game winning streak after a 3 game losing streak. They are led by Joseph girard who leads them with a little over 16 ppg followed closely by Judah Mintz. It feels like just yesterday we were talking about Girard as a possible duke prospect and now he’s a senior. Crazy how fast time goes

I expect a win but who knows at this point

Interesting Pisgah brought up Girard. I have thought of him as the "could have been" outside threat for us this year. After all we did recruit him, and whaddaya know, he's stayed at Cuse four years. We need those kinds of kids.

Mintz is also impressive at guard, and probably more explosive. We must watch him beating us off dribble. Their big man Jesse Edwards can be a load.

This will not be easy, and Cuse is hungry for wins to get in tourney. This would be a nice win for us after Cuse beat Pack. We need to match their hunger, and I hope we vow not to lose this road game after the "steal" in Charlottesville.

Obviously we need to shoot well enough to have a chance. We know that 2-3 zone is waiting, and somehow I think we get it done. 70-69, Duke. OFC

This won't be easy!! O'Connell and Baker used to excell agianst the Syracuse zone, so could this be the time when we finally turn to Shutt for that outside scoring!! We will see!!!

JC nothing would do my heart better than to see Jaden contribute to a win today with some timely buckets over that zone. O'Connell had two EXCELLENT games with outside shooting vs Syracuse. OFC

Just make the tourney though. Only loss after today will be at UNCheat and second round of ACC tourney. Hoping that’s enough to get in the big dance.

I have little faith in this team on the road. That said, a really good opportunity to get a good road win. Surprised we are favored. Girard was a guy I wanted out of high school. He would have been the perfect shooter off the bench. But he's started his whole career for Syracuse so he made the right decision. He's slow but he can shoot. They have won 3 in a row and just beat State. Virginia barely beat Louisville this week so I'm not sure how good they are. They are tied with Notre Dame right now. We will need our A game to come out with a W. Can we? sure. Will we? Not sure. It's a big game. I will feel a lot better about this team if we come out with a W. if we lose we are who we are; an 8/9 seed.

I wanted him too. I doubt he woulda stayed here though I doubt he would have seen the floor till maybe a little last year
 
If Roach and Proctor can hold their own against Girard and Mintz we will probably win as our frontcourt is better. Flip been a little Jeckyl and Hyde lately so we need a good game from him. I do think the game will be close. Cut down on turnovers and make our free throws. A loss today would eliminate them from the tournament unless they win the ACC tournament. If Flip and Roach have 4-12 type games we will be in trouble.

My understanding is you are better off having different people flash to the foul line to keep the defense moving and guessing. Flip would be one, especially if he turns, shoots the 15 footer without overthinking, and follows his shot. Granderson can do it also. I cringe at the thought of Mitchell because of his inability to finish at the rim. Therefore, my guess is we'll see a lot of Mitchell in the middle just to show I know nothing.

Another game I’ll miss due to work. I feel like if we can shoot respectably from three and if Flip can do Flip like things from the foul line we win easily. If our shooting is cold it’s a dogfight.

Why do we have an EXCELLENT game plan to attack the zone but can’t get anything going vs man to man?
