Official game day thread- Duke vs Wake

Great Resume Building Win!

The Bad:

The 1st 12 minutes of the 2nd half. Wake punched Duke in the mouth, pushed Duke around, meanwhile Duke couldn’t make a shot into the Atlantic Ocean

Flagg’s turnovers, have to clean those up!

The Good:

The 1st half

Flagg & Gillis

Coach Scheyer’s in game adjustments
1) Going Zone with 8 minutes left in the game
2) Putting the ball in Flagg’s hands in spots on the court where Flagg could effectively be the Point Forward

Duke showed it can win a low scoring and defensive style game

Duke Grew Up with this Win and it will pay dividends moving forward.

Hope Duke plays against Wake Forest in the ACC Tournament. It will Help Duke Prepare some more for the NCAA Tournament.

Our boys were a hostile environment, and lost a big lead by going cold for 10+ minutes. Then Jon made a great coaching move with a little over 8 minutes left. He went zone. They went scoreless for roughly 4 minutes, while we hit 6 in a row.

Teams that think they’re championship material need a game like this where they don’t get some calls, it seems like the other team gets more, and yet they still win.

100% agree. Brilliant move with the zone. Completely took the crowd and the refs out of the game.

Big Pat didn't get many points but happy to see him coming in and playing big minutes in the zone for us. He didn't give up anything easy even though he fouled out.

At times it felt like Cooper was showing he’s an 18 year old freshman, then you look at the box score. 24,7, 6.

We are insanely lucky to have him. While I think Jon has areas he needs to grow in, I love the fact he let Cooper go through growing pains earlier in the year, even though it cost us our two losses at the end. In the long run, it’s paid off and he’s who we need to have running the show in March. I trust him 100%.

a win is a win but there was a lot that wasn't good in that game...point guard play was sub par, the obsession with shooting 3's...and making very few..shot selection was very poor...no inside game at all. If Flagg has an off night we lack option B...thankfully WF couldnt capitalize on this inconsistency...onto the next one

Finally made my way out of the parking lot cluster F. (Thank you employee parking area/exit that I snuck through lol) my first time being back in Joel since 1992. Duke went 34-2 that year and of course I was at one of the losses lol.

Nice to exorcise a “demon” but wasn’t expecting a 13 point lead to turn into down 4. Excellent defense by Duke in the first doing what they’ve done all season, holding teams way down offensively. Second half Wake was really aggressive and I thought Duke was very unsettled for that rough stretch in the second. The defense change up by Scheyer was big, between the D, a couple Cooper iso plays and dagger 3’s by Mason and Tyrese, there was no court storming this year!

Wake is a different team in Winston-Salem, they always have been. A nice test that Duke survived.
