Official game day thread- Duke vs Cuse

Dick Vitale returns to broadcasting tomorrow night on ESPN for the Duke @ Clemson Game. He has defeated cancer four times and this will be his first assignment since April of 2023. His Positive Energy is Contagious, and I am Looking Forward to hearing this man do what he loves to do!!!

Welcome Back Dickie V, We Love You!!!

The 2015 team deserves some flowers. That team didn't become elite defensively until down the stretch in Feb/March, and they also had some head scratching January losses, however the ACC was MUCH tougher then. As of today, I'd have this team ahead of the 2015 team, but not by much.

I'm not the type that bases how good/bad a Duke team is strictly off how far they made it in the tournament, that's dumb in a single elimination style format. For example, I think the 1999 Duke team is the best Duke team and maybe the best college basketball team ever assembled. 2002 and 2004 aren't far behind.

But the job isn't done yet for this team. They need to stay connected and stay committed on the defensive end while staying hungry. That 2015 team flipped the switch defensively, this team just needs to make sure the switch stays where it is.

Oh, and the Paolo team isn't anywhere close to this team. That team lost 82-67 in the ACC championship, had some head scratching losses throughout the season, and ended the year ranked #49 on Ken Pom D. NOT CLOSE. They made the final four but they were also down 5 to MSU with 3 minutes left in the 2nd round.
Agree with almost everything you said. Only exception is the 99 team being the best team ever. First, I think it's fair to break it down to pre oad to now. No team has ever had the bullseye like the 92 bunch did, and they stayed focused, winning back to back. They would have found a way to beat UConn in 99.

If, and I say if, this team now manages to win it all, they have to be considered the best in the oad era.

I was there for the 92 team as well, I was 10 years old so it was one of my first Duke tournament run memories. Really, 1990 was my first time going through the tournament as a Duke fan. The 1992 Duke team is one of the best ever, but I believe 1999 was more talented and when 1999 was clicking they had a higher ceiling.

The 1999 team went undefeated in the ACC, and destroyed basically everyone, largest margin of victory ever by any school in ACC play. They ran through the NCAA tournament with the only close game being MSU in the final four (6 point W) but they were up 10-20 the whole game. Then obviously UCONN happened. Duke was the largest favorite ever in the title game, UCONN might have passed that recently.

The 1992 team lost at UNC and at Wake in the ACC. Then they also had the Kentucky Elite 8 game where we survived. However they got the job done in the title game.

I think the 1992 team was mentally tougher, and played with more of an edge, which makes sense given the personnel they had. But the 1999 team was more of a loaded roster, with more future NBA players on it, and was a much more athletic team. I believe that the 1999 teams A+ game would beat the 1992 teams A+ game. The 1992 team would find a way to will a victory out though when they weren't playing well.

To keep it brief: It's close and debatable. But the choice probably depends on which one you grew up with and were more "invested in" and for me that was 1999.

Bobby didn’t play in those losses to WFU and UNC.
