Official game day thread- ACC Quarterfinal- Duke vs GT

You know... you could make the case that without the Boozer injury in 2001, we wouldn't have gone with a faster style of play, seen the emergence of Duhon, seen the 3-headed post-ish monster of Casey, Christensen, and Reggie Love step up, seen Nate James accept a reduced role, and arguably, not won the title. Same in '92, perhaps, when Bobby was hurt for a little while.

I know the Ca-TOE-strophe of '11 is still an agonizing coulda-been.

We could get to the Sweet 16 without Cooper is all I'm saying. If he came back then, we would be back in business.

Nice to see the team rally and pull out a win without Flagg after being down double digits. I was only following on my phone, but it sure seemed like Ga Tech played well above their pay scale hitting three after 3 to stay within striking distance last ten minutes. Kon can be the guy if he has to, but our margin of error gets a lot smaller. I was a little disappointed Proctor had such a weak stat line. We need his best effort moving forward.

Hopefully Cooper is okay and 100% for the NCAAs. While I don't love the idea, I would be okay with him sitting out the rest of the ACCs.......as long as we don't don't get UNC tomorrow. UNC without Cooper and Brown has a completely different look.

Yeah, I am not confident if we are rolling without Flagg tomorrow or Brown. Which it sounds like Brown is done for the season.

Yeah Proctor's game has been known to get 'off' quite a bit. Especially for a highly rated kid that is now a junior. This is just a fact. He's going to have to play better, because sadly, Foster is what he is.

Proctor has been better IMHO this year, but disappearing in big games from here on out is not gonna work. It's his inconstancy that is the problem. Clearly the talent is there!

Let's hope Wake can take out UNC. If we are without Brown and Flagg and lose against Wake, eh.....if we lose against UNC their fanbase will be insufferable. But I am calling it now, Duke makes it to the ACC finals!

You don’t beat UNC without Brown but I think it’s a bit fair to second guess playing Brown this last week. Given that injury has a high likelihood of re-injury and this teams goals I think it could be argued you should have sat him until the NCAA’s.

With Cooper I think you let him practice, keep conditioning up but again hold off until the tourney. I would even go as far as to play him a bit in the first half of the 1-16 game with the thought you open the governor in the round if 32.

You never want to lose but I actually don’t think an exit here is a bad thing for this team. Give them a breather before the real push.

If it's just a sprain, depending on the type of sprain, it may hurt him more to be off of it for a while than to work through it. We'll see.

Duke and late season injuries. A tradition like no other. Brown hurts, but we need Cooper. If Cooper is gimpy may be another elite eight loss. We will see. We barely beat GT today.

With a gimpy Coop we may not even see the second weekend.

Brown, I’m sure is probably done. Much more positive on Flagg, though I don’t see him playing tomorrow. Carolina never has injuries like Duke does in recent years. It was luck that Duke was even able to face Carolina twice this year at full strength as they had people hurt in between both of the games. Carolina never had to play Kyrie Irving. They avoided Zion Williamson twice. Ridiculous!

It’s all about the big dance though at this point for this Duke team.

I can only think of one injury that affected them: Kendall Marshall in '12. They weren't beating Kentucky with him anyway, and I don't wish an injury on anyone. So, they should always count their lucky stars to come out unscathed. On the other hand, it happens every damn year to multiple players on our team. Let's hope this is a '01 type ending, not an '11 one.

Depends how bad Cooper is hurt. Think next week may be a best case. Brown is likely done. I am not sure next man up applies to Cooper, he is so much better than anyone else. Trying to stay positive but short of losing hard to imagine today going worse. And of course UNC is healthy. If they beat us to get in that will suck. Win tomm and good Cooper news will lift my spirits.

Bacot didnt play the Natty on one ankle 2 years ago? Same with Joel Berry in 2017? Marshall in 2012 probably costed us a title as well

Regardless, we arent beating Duke tomorrow whether Flagg plays or not. We match up horribly against Duke. Your bigs will feast against Washington and Lubin and Duke has huge guards while both of ours are barely 6 feet

It wouldn't surprise me if we see Cooper play tomorrow but I'm sure Brown is finished. There is a reason that shoulder came out the first time and it happened again on the same type play.

Bacot played 38 minutes in the title game and had a 15 and 15 double double. Berry played 37 minutes and scored 22 points in 2017. AFAM?

Two points:

I was only really wrong on one of three of those examples (and that one could be questioned) as I said recent years which to me isn’t 8 and 13 years ago. 🤷🏻‍♂️

“Generally, "recent years" refers to a period within the past 5 to 10 years, but the specific timeframe can vary depending on the context“ 😁

The second point would be, you could strongly argue that I was talking just about injuries within the matchups of the rivalry. 😉

Tomorrow’s game will go down to the end. And when you say “big’s feasting”, Duke is down 50% of those bigs.

So there ya go! 😁🕺🏻 btw it’s good to see a Tar Heel fan. I miss when there was more interaction like the old days before the camps circled the message board wagons. There’s always gonna be people that misbehave, but also I think people are too sensitive as well about certain things. My own grandmother was a Carolina fan and so is my brother-in-law. What am I gonna do eat at another table? lol, still
Gthc tho lol 😜
