Teams like Duke and Carolina rely on kids loving to play there. But it's hard to love a school, coach, or program under the conditions we've seen over the last year. So many activities and interactions are cancelled or constricted. So many new rules that have nothing to do with basketball. Nothing is normal.
While I suspect most players on both teams still feel good about the school they picked, the weaker ties, coupled with being able to transfer and play immediately for another team, probably have a lot more players than usual weighing that option.
And it's not just the best guys, either. Players who aren't NBA-bound might think about it, too. More PT. A chance to learn from a different coach (especially for players who are thinking about coaching down the road). Just a change of pace.
Take a guy like Goldwire. He'll probably play for pay somewhere for a while. Does he do that now? Or does he take advantage of the extra year of eligibility? And if he decides on another year in college, does he stay at Duke or go after a new learning experience?
