Duke vs Wisconsin

We seem to do well when we play a team for the second time. Let's get it done.

It's go time. Wisky better beware because this Duke team is much better than the one they saw at Kohl.

Do we match up better than uk. They drove by their bigs. With Winslow and jones we should shut down their guards and okafor should dominate down low. They don't play deep either.

It should be a classic. It's going to be a long next 2 days. OFC

So is there anything anyone can say to me to calm my nerves and assure me that we win? I need therapy

Sulaimon played great in the last game. Can we bring him back? All kidding aside, this Duke team is much better now. This Wisconsin team is much better now. If Duke defends the 3 point line, I think they can win by double digits.

My god it is right there in front of us!

relax. this is a much better match up for us than Ky.

our bigs match their bigs. but our guards can beat them shooting and off the dribble.

the key to this game will be quinn and tyus, if they show up big then .....

I think two key factors which will lead to a National Championship are: A great game from Plumlee and Okafor shooting well from the foul line. The two free throws that Ja made with 3+ minutes to go in the MSU game where critical. If he missed those and they went down and scored, it would have been a single digit game. Plumlee is the special key, like Zoubek in 2010; some rebounds, a few points, intimidation inside and his usual good screens would be huge.

Expect this one to go down to last possession. Justice vs Decker will be key. Marshall will have to help with Kaninsky.

If Duke maintains the defensive pressure they've shown lately, then they will be the 2015 NATIONAL CHAMPIONS!!!

i wonder?
will K go up tempo against these guys? running would seem to help us with our athleticism but expose us on defense. probably not but interesting to think about.

We have to limit their three point opportunities and rebound well on both ends of the floor. We do that, and we stand a great chance of cutting down the nets Monday night.

The only thing I worry about is if we get in foul trouble like last night and its a close game.

Will K use the zone more since he wasn't using it the first time these two teams played?

What I saw in the first match up was a Duke team that is more athletic. Wisconsin struggles with that. They skilled but so is Duke. While UK is athletic and big, they aren't skilled. I think as long as Duke continues to attack the rim, Duke should win.

The thing about Dekker is that he can disappear for stretches of the game. Duke really needs to take advantage of that.

I'd really love to see Justise just go at him. Perimeter isolations mixed in with post ups.

Duke's defense will decide whether or not they win this game. Be patient and don't fall for their pump fakes. 40 minutes of everything you got.

Win or lose, a loss to Wisconsin doesn't hurt me as much as a loss to UK would have. This is probably my favorite Duke team of all time, so I'd love for them to win it all.

This has the potential to be a laugher...Duke is probably 12-15 points better than they were in nov-dec, Wisconsin did not have that much room to grow. If the refs are not the story it might be 15-20 point game. The game with MSU was interesting to watch K manage people's time for Monday night. Take out the 3 fantom calls on Winslow and K not letting the dogs completely out its more of a laugher. Don't get me wrong Wisconsin is a very capable team but I would not be surprised to see repeat of MSU game.

I would feel the same way if Duke and Wisconsin hadn't already played one another. Rematches are always a worry for me.

I am all over the place with this game. They seem to be playing incredible team ball right now, Dekker looks way better. They are clearly better since our last matchup, but, then again, so are we. Justise is on another level. Our defense is on another level. Their 3 pointers are deadly. We aren't shooting as many. One edge I'm counting on, them getting up as high as they had to get for Kentucky. They spent a lot in that game, we'll see. I hope K has a great game plan. We shot lights out vs them last time. I'm worried, this is for all the enchiladas. GO DUKE !!!!

That's a great point Show...I noticed that too, after what happened last year...it seemed like that was their championship. Your old enough to remember K's comments after the 86 loss, To paraphrase "I barn stormed with this team and we took on everybody...this was just a tired team at the end". He has gotten way more mindful of that lesson. This team has got very fresh legs right now...if Wisconsin shows up flat an maybe even if they don't, K might get his 5th in surprising fashion and may look back in retrospect as the Zags as having the best shot to knock us out.

I think it's a big mistake to think there's any chance UW will come out flat. It's a very experienced group, and I tend to think the notion of a letdown game doesn't really apply to championship games. If anything, I think the confidence / positive energy UW feels from knocking off OK will only make them more formidable -- b/c guys like Decker / Kaminsky / Koening will have the confidence of knowing they can match up with anyone after beating UK. Obviously Duke beat Kansas in 91 after UNLV, and as Bo Ryan pointed out in his presser, the US beat Finland after the USSR in the 1980 olympics. While let down games exist in the middle of the season, I think everyone's going to be supremely focused / ready to go tomorrow night.

IMO, this will clearly be the most difficult team for us to play b/c they're probably going to force us out of the small lineup we've been using so successfully throughout the tourney run (i.e., I don't think we can get away with Winslow on Hayes and Matt Jones on Decker), and, by-in-large, Kaminsky is a terrible matchup for Okafor on the defensive end of the court. The real question, IMO, will be (i) can we avoid defensive lapses that lead to open 3 point attempts by Wisconsin's bigs; (ii) force some turnovers that lead to easy transition buckets; (iii) get dribble penetration from our guards; and (iv) hit some 3 pointers on our own, which we've struggled to do throughout much of this tournament.

Doubt it. We've tended to use the zone to counter dribble penetration. Wisconsin presents a lot of challenges, but they're not a dribble-drive sort of team. Also, IMO, we're not organized / active enough in our zone to really bother Wisconsin -- b/c they pass the ball so well, have many guys who can play from different positions on the court, and can really shoot the ball. Defensively, I think our one big advantage is the ability to apply ball pressure -- particularly against Koening / Gosser. If we're going to win tomorrow, it's going to be b/c our guards can disrupt Wisconsin's offensive flow and penetrate into the teeth of Wisconsin's defense.

We've been a MUCH better defensive team during the tourney. I'd say better than just about anyone. To go zone would be suicide. Guard the high pick with double switches and stay in Dekker's pocket ad we should be right there. I just hope that the scoring touch we had in Kohl is there. Duke is gonna need about 75 to win this one.

I'm actually very cautiously optimistic about the game. First, we seem to do well against teams the second time around (MSU, ND, State, UNCheat). I think we've beaten every team we've played the second time around.

Second, it feels a little like 2010 in that the pressure doesn't seem to be on us, at least not as I perceive it. It was primarily on Kensucky. Now I feel like it's on Wisconsin. The took down the big dog in a revenge match up and now they have to finish the job as giant killers.

The only thing that gives me pause is that Wisconsin feels a little like the '91 Duke team in a way. But if anyone knows how to counter that, it would be K.

They're showing the early season matchup between Duke and Wisconsin on ESPNU. It's at the 11:05 mark in the first half.

Yea, I've been watching, one good thing, I don't think Traevon Jackson drops 25 on us this time.

Does anyone know which uni's we will be wearing tomorrow night ? OFC

After watching a replay of the game against them from earlier in the season, I'd like to see us play a similar way tomorrow night with throwing the mismatches at them. It seemed to throw Kaminsky a bit off his rhythm at times having a guard on him then a big and/or another guard coming over to help at times.

Heaven forbid we actually wear BLUE for one game this tournament....

Our defense has improved significantly in the tournament while Wisconsin's offense has improved significantly in the tournament (and it was already one of the best). I keep going back and forth on this game, one minute I'm thinking we are going to win, the next I think we are definitely going to lose. Kaminsky and Dekker are tough matchups for anyone and Wisconsin has deadly three point shooting, they can drain 3's even when the opponent has good defense. Duke is going to have to play one heck of a game to win but even if they come up short this was an amazing year and amazing group of kids. And really, if we have to lose I could deal with losing to Wisconsin in the National Championship game. Wisconsin is a likeable program and they have a likeable team, plus it would only be their 2nd title and first title game appearance since 1941

Our boys have a shot at the title and that's all we can ask. Super proud of them, how hard they've worked regardless of how it turns out tomorrow. We have to play our game...limit turnovers, and be tenecious on the perimeter....all the things we have been doing the past 10 games.

Current line is Wisky -1 and I'm nervous as hell. I sure hope we find a way to get it done.

Speaking of our defense improving, I read an article earlier that said our defense has improved to #12 throughout the tourney.

after watching the replay last night i am concerned there are a couple of issues.

first we shot like 60%. a lot of that was we got great dribble penetration from our guards, but a lot of shots went in also. don't know whether we can do that again.

the game was kind of awkward at the beginning -- both Oak and Cook getting 2 fouls early.

K went with small lineup against them and i t seemed to work.

We won sat by 20 with one 3 and scored 81.. Our offense was extremely potent and we've been clicking this tourney. Drive like we have been and add in a couple normal 3's we hit I see us winning number 5! How exciting is that even to think?!

If Wisconsin wins, then they deserve the championship. Arizona > UK > Duke is an insanely tough stretch. Duke has already exceeded my expectations on the year, so while a loss would hurt, it wouldn't crush me the way '99 did. If Duke wins, it would feel like a bonus championship. 5 titles is nothing to scoff at folks!!!
