We have to limit their three point opportunities and rebound well on both ends of the floor. We do that, and we stand a great chance of cutting down the nets Monday night.Originally posted by madrussian:
i wonder?
will K go up tempo against these guys? running would seem to help us with our athleticism but expose us on defense. probably not but interesting to think about.
I would feel the same way if Duke and Wisconsin hadn't already played one another. Rematches are always a worry for me.Originally posted by dopeshop23:
This has the potential to be a laugher...Duke is probably 12-15 points better than they were in nov-dec, Wisconsin did not have that much room to grow. If the refs are not the story it might be 15-20 point game. The game with MSU was interesting to watch K manage people's time for Monday night. Take out the 3 fantom calls on Winslow and K not letting the dogs completely out its more of a laugher. Don't get me wrong Wisconsin is a very capable team but I would not be surprised to see repeat of MSU game.
I think it's a big mistake to think there's any chance UW will come out flat. It's a very experienced group, and I tend to think the notion of a letdown game doesn't really apply to championship games. If anything, I think the confidence / positive energy UW feels from knocking off OK will only make them more formidable -- b/c guys like Decker / Kaminsky / Koening will have the confidence of knowing they can match up with anyone after beating UK. Obviously Duke beat Kansas in 91 after UNLV, and as Bo Ryan pointed out in his presser, the US beat Finland after the USSR in the 1980 olympics. While let down games exist in the middle of the season, I think everyone's going to be supremely focused / ready to go tomorrow night.Originally posted by dopeshop23:
That's a great point Show...I noticed that too, after what happened last year...it seemed like that was their championship. Your old enough to remember K's comments after the 86 loss, To paraphrase "I barn stormed with this team and we took on everybody...this was just a tired team at the end". He has gotten way more mindful of that lesson. This team has got very fresh legs right now...if Wisconsin shows up flat an maybe even if they don't, K might get his 5th in surprising fashion and may look back in retrospect as the Zags as having the best shot to knock us out.
Doubt it. We've tended to use the zone to counter dribble penetration. Wisconsin presents a lot of challenges, but they're not a dribble-drive sort of team. Also, IMO, we're not organized / active enough in our zone to really bother Wisconsin -- b/c they pass the ball so well, have many guys who can play from different positions on the court, and can really shoot the ball. Defensively, I think our one big advantage is the ability to apply ball pressure -- particularly against Koening / Gosser. If we're going to win tomorrow, it's going to be b/c our guards can disrupt Wisconsin's offensive flow and penetrate into the teeth of Wisconsin's defense.Originally posted by FearTheBeard:
Will K use the zone more since he wasn't using it the first time these two teams played?
Heaven forbid we actually wear BLUE for one game this tournament....Originally posted by skysdad:
Does anyone know which uni's we will be wearing tomorrow night ? OFC
Speaking of our defense improving, I read an article earlier that said our defense has improved to #12 throughout the tourney.Originally posted by mo.st.dukie:
Our defense has improved significantly in the tournament while Wisconsin's offense has improved significantly in the tournament (and it was already one of the best). I keep going back and forth on this game, one minute I'm thinking we are going to win, the next I think we are definitely going to lose. Kaminsky and Dekker are tough matchups for anyone and Wisconsin has deadly three point shooting, they can drain 3's even when the opponent has good defense. Duke is going to have to play one heck of a game to win but even if they come up short this was an amazing year and amazing group of kids. And really, if we have to lose I could deal with losing to Wisconsin in the National Championship game. Wisconsin is a likeable program and they have a likeable team, plus it would only be their 2nd title and first title game appearance since 1941
