I know it has been frequently talked about on the podcast, (welcome for the plug!!) that it is a crime that K never gets proper consideration for coach of the year.....Let me point out a critical coaching decision from last night that may have been overlooked. Obviously everyone saw Jav down the stretch, blocking shots, grabbing boards, knocking down free throws. But what I saw was the decision to even have Jav in the game.

I believe it was just under 4 minutes left, Vern had just picked up his 3rd foul (not 4th) and Tech was at the line shooting free throws. I also believe we were up 4 or 5 at the time. I honestly believe at this moment K realized it was going to be rebounding and defense, not offense that was going to seal the victory for us. So he subs in Jav for Vern. Now we all know that Jav has had his moments of greatness and moments of not so great during his Duke journey. He has certainly not been a model for consistency. But K had enough trust in him that he subs out our most productive statistical player, who by the way is currently in the discussion for NPOY and Jav goes out there and does everything you would expect a senior to do. Kudos to Jav, but even bigger kudos to K for a heck of a coaching decision.

I'm not sure if you are serious, but I'm game. That would be awesome. I was cracking up reading this too the wife and she calmly says" that's a great idea." Then states that would be nice to throw a Duke party here with your board guys. We have extra bedrooms, the man cave, a air mattress, plenty of blankets. Said they would have to bring their own alcoholic beverages since we don't drink and no throwing up lmbo.
QC IN THA HOUSE!!!!!

Have to love the squad. Defense and find ways to win. Only predictable person is Vernon when it comes to scoring. Anybody else except Goldwire has potential to go off which makes us so dangerous. Finally we get another tough game

Man chov, you are spot on. I wasn't sure what was going on along with the rest of the duke fan base last night. Goes to show just why we should be thankful that K is roaming our sideline. Hands down, the best in-game coach I ever saw. Do he make mistakes in our minds at times, yes But you have to be a fool or hater to see that at age 72, the Goat is not just that! An unbelievable decision last night at that time. How many other coaches would of pulled that move?

You’re all over it RS.....we are truly blessed to have the greatest of all time.

QC, it's crazy how we take the simple things for granted and look for faults at times when we should be blessed we are not like other programs and fortunate for that. Nobody can't mention college basketball in a positive note without mentioning K and Duke. Ky and their used car salesman can claim they are college basketball all the want. Game views when duke plays, followers, and anything else you want to look at say different.

We appreciate the plug....but you’re right. He never gets credit he deserves but we are quick to point out his failures.

“He’s forgotten how to coach in his older years it’s just true.” Just stop- what he just randomly remembers from time to time how to do it?

At the beginning of his press conference he said “ I don’t want them to get down on themselves”. If he doesn’t want them to get down on themselves then he shouldn’t have publicly said “that they’re the least talented team that he’s ever had”. lol

Just watching the game again. Did anybody notice the reactions when Cash got the and one dunk? Nolan went crazy, big Vern walked in front of the student body and just stared at them and Alex was given the quiet signal then I can't hear you right after lmao.

I did notice that. That was amazing.

Was anyone else scared that Alex got hurt after his breakaway slam?? The announcers even said he might have hurt his hand. After Wendell, another unnecessary hand injury is the last thing we need. Alex had that great steal and slam, then him and Goldwire did a cool celebration after. Alex failed to get back on D and his man drew an easy shooting foul, I don't think K was too pleased.

He still threw them under the bus. He named players that had made bad plays. I was listening to The David Glenn Show this afternoon. It is a local sports talk radio show here in N.C. . Today one of his guest was Jeff Capel and Glenn ask him about hof coach roy williams calling out his tar heels and calling them the least gifted team he has ever coached. Take note that Glenn is an unc alumni .Capel was so classy with his answer. He did not criticize hof coach roy williams. He was very complementary of him but he did say this. He said one of the greatest things he learned from Coach K is you do not criticize a player in public. You don't tell about punishments of a player in public. It's all done in private. He did say that Coach K has punished players at Duke for things and gotten on them in private but never in public. Maybe he just needs to simplify the complicated unc system.OFC

That is insane.
For the record, Ken-Pom now predicts us to finish 18-2 in the ACC.

I think Vernon was pretty gassed at that point too and Javin was raring to go. Coach knows best.

What I like is that in addition to Dukes current status is that there is also so much room for growth. We haven't come close to firing on all cylinders yet!

Ken Pomeroy himself wrote a whole article on The Athletic called Can Duke Go Undefeated?. He basically says that everyone keeps talking about teams like Gonzaga and SDSU and how they could win out the rest of the season but aside from Liberty (which has a whopping 18% chance not to lose again this season) Duke actually has the second highest chance at about 8% with our toughest remaining road game being at UVA.

Am I the only person that thinks it’s a little crazy that @ NC State is considered to be our toughest remaining game? Considering there are 4 ACC teams with better ACC records than them and 6 ACC teams with equal to or better overall records than them. Also if they’re our toughest remaining game and our chances of beating them are at 80%, then what are the percentages at that we’re predicted to beat the rest of the ACC teams on our remaining schedule?

FSU at home
U of L at home
@UVA

In my opinion are our toughest remaining games

I probably am the most worried about the game @ NC St. It's a 9PM weeknight game so that place will be insane, it always is when Duke is their. NC St. seems to play so freely when they are at home against us and you can almost guarantee they are gonna make some crazy 3's.

UVA doesn't scare me at all. Just don't think they can score enough to hang with us.
Louisville will be tough in Cameron plus we still won't have Wendell. Louisville is pretty athletic so we could really feel the Wendell void that game.

FSU in Cameron also worries me since it's a Monday game, the Sat before we will have blown out UNCheat in the Nose Dome. That's a pretty quick turnaround.

First thanks for the plug. Hehe.

Second, as well as the team is running and organized this season, this has been K’s best use of personnel since 2009-2010 IMO and even that season it took until February to figure it out.

If he has something up his sleeve for this squad I can’t wait to see what it is.
