***DUKE VS GEORGIA TECH OFFICIAL GAMEDAY THREAD***

I agree with everyone above Jav. He made some huge plays in winning time. That's what is so good about this team, someone (or everyone) seems to step up and make winning plays. This is an excellent 'team', maybe one of the more balanced ones I've seen in a long time.

I loved it. This is character building. Winning these tough games is what makes you able to function instead of folding when things are not going your way.
And I wasn't worried...probably couldn't say the same for my cardiologist team.

Dirt I love ya man but have to disagree. Nothing builds character more than crushing your opponent. We are good enough to have crushed GT but they played really well (I don't know how they have lost 8 games} and we barely played well enough. How many bunnies did we miss in the 2nd half. Thank goodness for Cassius Stanley and Jones and some timely shooting, defense and big rebounds at the end. I hate to sound like a downer but I thought this was another SFA with 6 minutes to go, But like someone said earlier this win combined with the continued dumpster fire in Chapel Hill made it a good night.

Oh, I agree crushing teams is great for confidence and such, but I believe that the only way you can handle difficult situations is to be tossed in the fire and develop the kind of belief in yourself that can only come from facing adversity. To be clutch you have to be hardened. Remember the Runnin' Rebels...they had won 40+ straight games and weren't tested many times while destroying their opponents. I told everyone I knew that if Duke was close at the end of that game that we would win. Duke was battle tested.

That was Ol' Roy's favorite team, Kansas, Gotta. After that incredible dunk by Grant I knew we were going to get our first natty, and it's even sweeter because it was against Roy...even though I didn't know then he'd be back at UNC.

Oh I’m sure it was!! I couldn’t have came down anyway. I just moved a couple days ago and the house is chaos. I don’t know where half my stuff is!! Which box or which room. Moving SUCKS!!
I feel you buddy. Hopefully this won't be the last time Duke comes here this year. The final four is here and if we are in it, I expect you to come down.

That sounds great! Even if we don’t have tickets, you can pick us out a nice place to go watch! Mybe we could get several board members to meet up for it!

Dirt, agreed- you need some "white knucklers," (as Al McGuire used to call tight games)to be "battle tested." Winning the close ones (especially in hostile enviroment)along the way is HUGE, because you know in post season play you're going to face some meat grinders!

Proud of these guys! An ACC ROAD WIN over a team riding a crest of momentum, and a gymful of hopeful partisans salivating over the thoughts of knocking off our boys! Nice job fellas, LOVE this team's heart!

That would be awesome.
Those of you who attended the game, sounded like there was a pretty good Duke presence at the game, is that true? Liked the "let's go Duke" cheer toward the end of the second half.
Duke fans took that place over several times last night. My little quiet wife jumped up and started hollering the Let's Go Duke chant and everybody including myself jumped up and joined in. Not sure what it sounded like on tv, but we were rocking the joint last night.

We could hear it . Even the announcers mentioned it. Tell the wife way to go. OFC

GT was better than I thought they would be (I know typically Duke sees the very best version of a team). They went 3-5 over the stretch of games Alvarado missed, and that included single digit losses to Georgia, Arkansas, and Kentucky. Their season could look a lot different right now.

I'm not going to mention but a few things being up close and personal last night. We were 10 rows up and slightly to the right of Dukes bench.

Since joining this board, I try to stay away from posting anything negative. But guys, Duke was getting hosed last night by the refs. To see it live and in person was a shame. I've never seen so many over the backs not called, I had to keep rubbing my eyes to make sure we weren't playing the cheats.
Tre was getting beat up a lot last night with no whistle, but good lawd if Duke touched then the whistle was blowing. Enough of that BS. I'm already hoarse and still pissed thinking about it.

These freaking Durham Boys are dangerous! To see the ball hawking of Tre and Jordan will make you tired watching them. My goodness they are nasty. K was going off last night on the refs. At one point I just knew he was going to get a tech. He got in Cash butt so bad and sat him on the bench that I felt sorry for him, but Lord Jesus when he came back in, well you saw it.

It's been a long time since I screamed and hollered like last night. Mainly our chants and talking crap to Ga tech fans. Trust me they got real quiet quick. Wasn't trying to start anything, but was raising hell all night. The section I was in was crazy with Duke fans. We hugged so many Duke fans last night and even outside after the game, a huge crowd of us was hollering Here Comes Duke as we were walking up the street. We owned downtown Atlanta last night. A few tech fans was saying Duke is scary. My response was simply "who's next." Heck our uber driver heard about our boys for the full 10 min ride to our car. I didn't care either. Let's Go Duke!!!!!!!

I’m in!!!!!

Awesome! We gotta start planning this now!!
@retiredsoldier will rent us a spot to watch the game and he will cater in food and have an open bar. That’s pretty solid of him!! So that it doesn’t break him up too bad, we need to try and limit to 25-30 people.. for any of us, I mean you guys that got a little anibtiated, I’m sure he won’t mind however many coming back and staying with him.......and maybe making breakfast in the morning. He’s already said all this will be awesome if you look a little earlier in the thread!

Man hart, seeing people that was talking smack about 4 min left in the game get quiet and head for the exits was priceless. We let them have it. I told a few friendly tech fans that we were going back and forth with as they started leaving to hang around until the final horn, you may get a few more tech players playing the air guitar.

I'm not sure if you are serious, but I'm game. That would be awesome. I was cracking up reading this too the wife and she calmly says" that's a great idea." Then states that would be nice to throw a Duke party here with your board guys. We have extra bedrooms, the man cave, a air mattress, plenty of blankets. Said they would have to bring their own alcoholic beverages since we don't drink and no throwing up lmbo.

I wasn’t serious about you taking care of everything, but if we planned something, I’m serious about coming down for a final four party. I bet we could get several to mke it

Man it's crazy because I was going to make a thread after the Miami game talking about just that. I have a huge HD projector in the cave that takes up the whole wall. It's like 130x123. We can watch and clown here or go out and then come back and watch again. Nobody lives here but the wife and myself and we have plenty of room. No hotels needed. If we get to the final four, I expect to see Duke fans here at the crib. Heck, if any board members are ever here in Atlanta, our home will always be open instead of getting a hotel.

That's a good wife. The first Duke game I took my wife to was in the fall of 2007 at the Maui Invitational. About midway through the second half of the first game against Princeton, Duke fans started in a "Go To Hell, Carolina! Go To Hell!" chant. She really got into it. Nothing sexier.

I know right lol. I'm still picking at her this morning. She said I just waited to let them tech fans and their chats stop and I got extra fired up. That old ex Drill Instructor voice came out lol.

Hahaha....glad you two had fun.
The funny thing is she was never a basketball fan much less knew much about Duke when we met in 08. Now, she's all in. Her favorite saying" c'mon babies, you can do it." We made a promise to start making it to games next year. But I loved our boys grit last night. Wasn't always pretty, but what is? Adversity is needed in life to get you out of your comfort zone and see when you push through it, good things are mostly on the other side. That was a great game for duke. For any fans that think we are suppose to just blow teams out and not make mistakes, well good luck with that. Life isn't like that, so in noway would I expect a sports teams to do it. Div 1 players are talented in their own right, then you look and see Duke across the chest of your opponent, its game on.
