While I think the 2018 team was better and had more consistent results, I would take the 2017 season as better. If my options are:

Don't win the ACC regular season, win the ACC tournament, 2-1 vs. UNC, lose in the second round or
Don't win the ACC regular season, don't win the ACC tournament, 1-2 vs. UNC, lose in the Elite Eight

I will take the first one every time.

The disappointment was greater with the 2017 team, at least for me anyway. So much happened that year....it was dysfunctional from day one. I bought into the hype more with that team because I liked our core of veterans, in addition to the young talent we brought in. But playing the first month without all of Bolden, Tatum and Giles set things off on the wrong foot. Couple Frank being hobbled later in the season, Grayson's issues and Coach K's health....it was like nothing I've ever saw before. Even though that team didn't play a lick of defense, for some reason I liked their pedigree more than the most previous team.

2018 for me. The tourney means everything in my view and 18 was 30 seconds away from a final 4 and then who knows. Plus if you knew before the season you'd have a shell of himself Giles then I think the expectations for the 17 team wouldn't have been as lofty.

I'd take 2017 results, but head to head I think 2018 wins going away.
On paper I think 2018 would clearly win but does the 17 squad catch fire from 3 and shoot the zone out?

Even though the two squads are polar opposites, they share one specific similarity:: inconsistent PG play

PG: Kennard
SG: Trent
SF: Allen
PF: Tatum
C: Bagley
6: Carter

Yep, which is disappointing considering Duke was the most talented team in the country and didn't reach a Final Four or win either ACC regular season or Tournament title.

But the 2017 won the ACC tournament which is something the 2018 team failed to do. I think both teams underachieved with the talent on their roster.

2018 all the way. 2017 never got it together until that brief 4 day run in the ACC Tourney. And then they get bounced the next week in the 2nd round of the NCAAs. 2018 we seemed legit once we went zone. We just lost a heartbreaker in the Elite 8.

Acc tourneys don’t mean much to me. Regular season and NCAA tourney are what I’ve always cared about.

As a fan the regular season crown is more fulfilling IMO because it means winning over a longer extended period of time BUT I think the Conference Tourney better prepares you for the NCAA Tournament

Coach K doesn't have much choice under the current OAD system because we are usually spending the first half of the season getting our Freshman up to speed

I'm proud of the guys making the elite 8...it's hard as hell to make the final four every year, ask Kentucky... I'll wait on 6 but I sure as hell hope we have AOC and Bolden in the fold while we making a run at it...

I bet UVA is really pumped about winning the regular season and ACCT. Call it a hunch, but I bet they’d switch their season with ours in a split-second.

maybe right now, but in time, they get to hang banners and will always be ACC champs and people will forget we lost in the elite 8, sadly. Nobody will ever forget they lost to a 16, though. Lol.

I am glad we had that run, though.

I doubt they would take Duke's season. UVA objectively had the better season. The most dominant ACC regular season with a 17-1 record and an ACCT championship is better than 2nd place regular season, loss in semis, and an elite 8.

The loss to a 16 seed is obviously a HUGE blemish.

I don't see how Duke had the better season though.

Unfortunately that is the bottom line

We beat UNC 1/3
We beat Syracuse in the Sweet 16
........

In a year or two we won't remember we finished 2nd in a tough ACC season. We celebrate and even idolize Duke players/teams of the past strictly on their accomplishments. This years team made some noise but leave without anything noteworthy (although one could argue even Elite 8's are tough to come by of late for Duke)

I would take any teams season this year over being the first 1 seed to lose to a 16

You’re entitled to your opinion, but I think you’re wrong.

Ask a UVA fan if they’re more excited about their regular season and ACCT championship, or more embarrassed about their opening round loss. If they don’t say the latter, they’re lying.

The loss to UMBC is not a blemish. It was historic. So historic, in fact, that it’s the only time — EVER — that it’s been done. There have been 136 times a 1-seed and 16-seed have matched up. Only one time has a 16 prevailed. It’s one of those “where we’re you when it happened?” things you’ll talk about with buddies in 20 years.

I realize that but I still think they accomplished more than Duke or any other ACC team this season and had a better year.

If UVA had won just one game in the tourney, I would agree, but as it stands, no way I would rather have their season than ours.

I'm just glad it wasn't us to be the first to lose to a 16...imagine the trolls if that happened
