Official game day thread- Duke vs ND

Thankfully Brown did not experience a tear on his knee.

I enjoy long distance running and experienced a chronic acl sprain in my left knee in 2022. At the onset of the sprain it is painful and I went through physical therapy with therapists and having to do physical therapy at home as well.

Brown has access to a great medical staff at Duke so hopefully he can strengthen the muscles and tendons around the sprained knee asap.

Get Well Maliq!

Jon Scheyer confirms that forward Maliq Brown will miss several weeks, if not longer, with his sprained knee.

"He'll miss an extended period of time here ... He's going to be out for the next several games here, minimum."

Pat Ngongba and Mason Gillis will be next men up.

Not the greatest news. Several weeks could mean mid-February in Duke language. But at least he didn't tear anything in his knee.

Been checking Twitter hourly for a Maliq update and still nothing. I pray he's just out for a couple games, we can afford to miss him the next couple weeks, but we will need him for the stretch run. It just wouldn't be a great Duke team without a stressful January injury.
You can set your clock by it!!

bleed the 2019-2020 Duke team was a joy to watch. They were ranked #1 in November, lost at home to Stephen F Austin, beat Kansas in the Champions Classic, punked Michigan State at Michigan State, had some bumps in ACC play, had the exciting win at Chapel Hill, and really got it going in the latter part of the regular season. Roles were being defined and it was a team that had 3 scorers in Tre, Carey, and Stanley, Defenders in Tre, Goldwire, J Rob, Carey, and DeLaurier, slashers in Moore, J Rob, and Stanley, 3 point shooting, and a scoring punch off the bench in Hurt, O’Connell, White, Baker, and Moore. Good blend of experience and freshmen on the 19-20 Duke Team. Damn you Covid.

Tre
Stanley
J Rob
DeLaurier
Carey Jr

Hurt
Moore
Goldwire
O’Connell
White
Baker
I will remember that team forever. The regulation ending at UNC(to force OT), on a MIRACULOUS play designed by Scheyer and executed perfectly by Tre stands out forever. J-Rob was coming into his own at season's end, and I think we were a dark horse threat to make real noise in March!!

Other Games 24-25 Season

I have always been weary of coaches/fans/commentators calling out student athletes after a poor performance. However, at the D1 level, these guys are no longer student athletes. They are paid professionals who the NCAA are trying to mask as "student-athletes." Heck, all of the power conference players are making more money than I am.

So with that said, I think it's fair for coaches to call out players by name during press conferences and for fans to boo players etc. That's just the new world of big time college athletics. If you want to get paid the big bucks, you need to be able to handle and accept the criticism that comes with it.
I see your point. With the landscape changed so much by $$$,it does somewhat come with the territory.

Zion Suspended

Zion is one of my favorite Duke players ever. He went to the worst ran organization in the NBA. They have no fan support, but even worse: they have a cheap medical staff. The amount of injuries the Pelicans have had over the past 12 years (going back to Anthony Davis) is double any other team in the NBA. Seriously, I don't have the link but saw it posted on Twitter not too long ago. The problem is the Owner also owns the NO Saints, so the Pelicans don't mean anything to him.

Now, Zion could have been more dedicated to his weight, he could have done a better job avoiding people out there for his pockets, and it seems like he is listening to the wrong people. But regardless, he needs to go to an organization that knows what they are doing. An organization with an elite medical staff (Miami, Boston, San Antonio are some examples).

But I'm sorry, I don't think Duke fans should ever say a negative thing about Zion after the year he gave us. Just my opinion.
Remember, A LOT of people thought he should never have played at Duke again after the blown out shoe incident, but he did.

Zion Suspended

Has anyone here read or watched his interview when he left Duke? Go back and read or watch it . This was a legitimate kid who did NOT want to leave college . He says so repeatedly. Almost like he’s saying he ain’t ready to take on all the publicity. You can do it in college alot easier then as a pro athlete. His headache started the minute he declared. From the civil suit to his step father publicly announcing it was never a thought if him returning to college . The kid wanted to be a kid . Now he has to be a grown man and have everyone in his ear and pockets . He was in his best shape coming into this season . He should have left New Orleans because he don’t have any stability there. They had what three coaches in his time there.
