Official game day thread- Duke vs Wake Forest II

From the Don Best (oddsmaker) College Basketball Injury Report:

Foster sat out the previous game (Wake Forest) due to an undisclosed injury, and it’s up in the air if he will be active against North Carolina on Saturday.

I don’t remember him getting injured against Florida State but maybe he tweaked something. At least it sounds like it’s an injury and nothing else going on. I’m pulling for him and seems like a great teammate. Get well soon CFos.
While it is true Foster has fallen in importance to this year's squad as others have stepped up I still desperately want this young man to succeed.

We have seen so much potential, I would love for him to shake off whatever has held him back from maximizing his potential. I would hate to see him go but even if it is a different environment he needs I hope for him to nurture his spark.

That's oddly comforting. Hope he recovers quickly.

For those curious about the return..

Judging from Scheyer’s post-game remarks about thinking about putting Flagg back in at the end so he could get a singular round of cheers, it sounds like he fully expects Cooper to leave after this year. I also think that the scare everybody (including, Cooper, by the look on his face) got when he got injured in the FSU game, had to have reinforced the notion that your career could end in a moment. Scheyer knows that as well as anybody, having had his own career derailed with his eye injury. I’m not familiar with the details of the so-called “injury insurance”, but I doubt it could cover the entire financial loss that Cooper would suffer if he sustained a career-ending injury. That said, he’s not going to be a pauper, and if they don’t win it all this year, I wouldn’t be shocked if he decided to stay and go for it again next year. Which selfishly I would be very happy about!

Also the size of literally every single player. When they showed the Seniors getting their framed jerseys, I was struck by how Gillis and James are the same height. We knew that on paper already, but when you see them standing there side by side it hammers home the point. You don't traditionally see your guards standing toe to toe with some of your forwards. This is a HUGE basketball team and there is without question a wear-down effect when you have to compete against this Duke team over the course of a game as a result of all that length.

and strength!

I think what seperates this team, other than the fact we have 4 impact freshman, is the 3 transfers are almost all perfect team role players. Its rare to be able to plug in 3 upperclassman who seemingly have no ego. And they are tough as nails.

It's not his house.

I saw with my own two eyes how our President spoke to President Zelensky. Saaaaaaaaaaaaw.
I have heard third-hand about Ukrainian men being abducted and forcibly enlisted. Hearrrrrrrrrrd.

The last time the US had conscription of that sort was during the Civil War, which was, of course, the last time a war was fought on US soil. Poland used 12-year-olds during WW2. A bunch of Central African countries are using child soldiers right now.

It's an awful thing, but in an occupied country where those same people may be just as likely to be killed by the invading military, there is important context and extenuating circumstances. It doesn't make it any less awful, but it does make it more understandable and regrettable.
Zelensky is a greedy little bastard. How much money are you willing to give him?

I think you're going to defend him regardless.

A few issues you might want to get ready to defend:
* halting aid to Ukraine, announced in the last hour or so
* how the CDC is doing with the measles outbreak in Texas
* aggressive tariffs against our closest neighbor & closest ally in Canada and other closest neighbor & pretty close ally in Mexico
* our President's threat to cut funding for colleges that allow "illegal" protests
Yes, I’m going to defend him almost all the time. Do I like the way he sometimes speaks? No. But I look past words. Washington has been a cesspool for way too long.
The party that has long been against wars/wasteful spending, are the same people whining about Trump helping to end to Ukraine/Russia war. Talk about rich. As I type this, Zelensky has posted on X that he wants to negotiate an end to the war.

On tariffs, it is long overdue. Trump’s purpose is to get more goods made here. Will we pay more for some things? Possibly. I can’t think of the other company, but I’ve heard Honda just announced it’s going to have a factory here instead of out of the country.
What does that do? J O B S.

Not sure what will happen with measles in Texas, nor what you’re expecting.

Trump SHOULD cut funding to universities that allow “illegal” protests. The key word here? ILLEGAL.

You're not surprised I defend Trump. I think he said exactly what needed to be said. I'm disappointed you're defending Zelensky, but not surprised.

ACC has been the best conference in last 3 NCAA Tournaments

None of that matters when the conference has overperformed in the NCAA Tournament against expected results
Don't get me wrong, I love our NCAA tournament results. I don't really care how other ACC schools do this year as long as we cut down the nets.
But I would say that the ACC operating with $300M (not sure the exact amount) less annually as compared to the SEC or Big10 does matter and will continue to matter. The SEC got all of the top transfers this year, all of them, because they could pay them sums that ACC schools couldn't afford.
The ACC has the worst commissioner (by far) and the worst television contract (by far) of all of the big conferences. Combine that with all of the legendary coaches hanging it up and I think we have a lot of work to do to get back on top overall.

I was trying to distinguish between a formal draft and "conscription of that sort."

I think you accidentally said it the way you really see it the first time: it's Dear Leader's house and he can act however he wants free from any decorum, propriety, restraint, or respectability.

It’s America’s house, and the last time I checked, Zelensky isn’t an American. He’s been treated more than fair, and Trump spoke to him EXACTLY how he needed to be treated. Zelensky is a weasel.

As far as America and conscription, doesn’t the Vietnam War count?

That's a great stat. However let's be honest, the ACC has been bad for a few years now overall. I don't think just the NCAA tournament is a fair way to measure how good/bad a conference is, though it is the most important time of the year. This year if you took away Duke/Clemson/UL than the ACC is a middle of the pack mid-major conference.

It's annoying because this Duke team truly is elite but this conference has only tested them a handful of times. The ACC in 2019 was an elite league still and got 3 #1 seeds that season, I think this 2025 Duke team would still go 17-3 or 18-2 in that super elite league.

We all know the reasons for the conference collapse...the football side just doesn't make as much $$$ as the other leagues have been, and we are slowly seeing the ripple effects. Combine that with every single legendary coach has left the ACC over the past 5 years, and this is the product we have.

Louisville getting back on track is nice for the league. We really need Syracuse to get good again, and 1 of the Florida schools can hopefully gain some steam as it seems like they have some NIL advantages due to football.

I'm definitely no expert on this Ukraine/Russia war. I doubt you'll find any conservative though that doesn't have empathy towards the citizens of Ukraine. It's their leadership is the problem, the same as ours before 2025.

Zelensky is a hack, and libs all are silent on them literally grabbing young men off the streets? But you want to criticize Trump for how he talks in HIS HOUSE.

You can't make this up.
