Tyreese Proctor reclassing

I'm good with those guys getting the PT, particularly Schutt. I don't think there's a player out there that would offer more than those guys other than someone who would want to start, and I don't think Scheyer will pursue that type of player now that we added Proctor.

I wonder if the staff are confident that guys like Young, Catchings Schutt and Blakes can give us good minutes. This might explain our non aggressiveness with the transfer market recently. If Catchings can be a 10/15 minute glue guy/defensive specialist that would really help. Also if Young can give 15/20 minutes if needed.
I think we are in big trouble if Catchings is getting 15 minutes a game.

I think Tape scared us off the Ivy League, which is not that bad. And Tape was hobbled. I agree my post was a best case scenario. But they are both strong, experienced guys, and we kind of need that on our team. Even if Young can give us 15 and Catchings 8-10 that would be huge. Young has already done that in the Big 10. Catchings being in the rotation would admittedly be a surprise.

Catchings can defend at the three When Whitehead is out. Duke can’t go small ball much but they can go big . I’d look for young and Catchings to get five minutes a game .

I want everybody to get off of UNC’s nutts!! The season hasn’t even began yet , not one game played and already y’all are giving up on the season. Yes Duke is going to be young . It isn’t youth I’m worried about it’s the ability not to wear down the youth before March . Jon is going to have to get them into playing defense period if he can do that the points will come. Mitchell, Lively and Whitehead are known as good defenders now it’s up to the backcourt to see who will step up. You only need to win a game by a point . If your getting beat by 15 then it’s going to be a long season .
Shey your comment about "get off of UNC's nutts" made me laugh hysterically!!! Look, ANYONE who knows me will vouch I DETEST The Cheats.

I simply consider them perhaps not only the league favorite, but right now a very viable pick to take it all. That sickens me, but there's something to be said for experienced talent.

Other league teams will have considerably more experience. It's just something we will have to deal with as long as we take this path of building our teams.

Make no mistake Shey, I am not "giving up on the season!!" I agree with you, it's important for Jon not to "wear down the youth before March." That's because I DO THINK if this team makes a run, those freshmen REALLY GROW UP FAST! By the end of the year, I will not consider them freshmen any longer! Peace, my brother! OFC

That’s the thing Hart. We all know they will be good, we all know who they returned no denying all that you just said. But for Christ sakes we still have to play I think it’s twenty teams before Jon’s first game against them. Let’s see the team first before you give up on them.

If you read my post, I clearly stated "I am not giving up on the season." I have followed Duke 55 years Shey in basketball and football. Much of this board I think would attest to my passion for Duke.

My position is that Duke will stumble a few times but be very strong by March, perhaps 3 seed. As for the Cheats, it depends on how well they replace Manek. He really helped their floor spacing. I can see why people are high on them but folks were high on UCLA after a similar run not long ago. The Cheats got really hot at the right time. When Leaky Black starts hitting 3 pointers, well what can one say. Even so, the last game could have went either way. There were some crucial calls, free throws, and inbound plays that just didn't go Duke's way. Really looking forward to this season.

UNC played good when they switched Love to the 2. They played well the last 2 months, they did not just get hot in the tournament. A few made shots/different calls and they could have beat Kansas. I hate them too but there is some cherry picking going on here. They are the team to beat in the ACC right now. That doesn't mean we can't get a split with them, but they clearly have the advantage at the moment. Hopefully we catch up to them as the season goes on and go further than them.

Very realistically well stated post Chris! OFC

I have a friend who is a big UNX fan (our friendship has survived this divide). He says it was just a matter of Davis figuring out his players and playing a shorter bench. When the guards were allowed more freedom they played better. That, and Manek and Bacot learning how to play off each other.

I maintain that Manek was critical to their success. Look how he did vs. Duke the first time as opposed to the 2nd and 3rd times. He was the stone cold killer. They will need to replace him to scare me.

I am concerned about our front court dealing with their size though.

I wasn’t speaking about you Hart. I was speaking in terms of the ones every other post make a post about UNC and next season. But on a side note. According to GG Jackson UNC is about to start getting a lot of OAD talent

People said the same thing about Duke last season but UNC still split the two meetings .difference between Keels and Proctor . Proctor has the foot speed to keep in front of Love. Roach or Keels didn’t last season .

Meh. Home loss to Pitt (2/16), taken to OT by Syracuse at home (2/28), whupped by VT in ACCT (3/11), got to play St. Peters in E8 (3/27). You're doing some cherry picking yourself.

And we know this how?
Which part about proctor being able to stay in front of Love? Watch tape . Roach sure can’t hold him . Jon is going to have to give Blake’s and Schutt some minutes somewhere otherwise I’ll put money on one if not both hitting the portal the following season .

I’m more worried about the back court. Duke has size it’s wether or not they use it all.

Good point, GAAP!. The Pitt loss helped North Carolina a lot. The defense and effort improved dramatically. UNC also started holding a lot on cutters and pushing off on rebounds

They had been scared to foul because they only played five, but it changed dramatically after Pittsburgh. They played like Georgetown 1984 believing the referees would not call them all. The overtime win against Syracuse was pretty impressive because Cole Swider barely missed and scored 36

Tape of him staying in front of high school guys? He might but we will have to see. (I was referring to Proctor being able to stay in front of Love) Freshman are unknown quantities. Agree about Blakes and Schutt. Blakes could be a defensive specialist and Schutt hopefully our 3 point sniper. They both have a chance to contribute this year.

And Euro players. People have to remember the modern NBA is almost like FIBA ball now . The second half is can love guard Proctor ?
Hart, we good brother nothing I said was directed at you

Looks like Grandison is coming for a visit. I guess Jon still wants some more experience. He would I think be part of the rotation. If that happens, that would translate to a fairly deep team and help address the shooting concerns. May move Duke into a preseason top five team FWIW. Doesn't look like the staff is standing pat.

YES!!!!
This guy is really good and he's like 23. Sign him up. He's a 40 percent 3 point shooter. Sign this guy and I would be thrilled with our team. He'd be the perfect 15 minute 6th/7th guy off the bench, or starter if Proctor or Roach get injured. Love that Jon is being aggressive. Jon would need to sell him on possibly coming off the bench. Get this guy and have that blend needed to make a run like this year. (We still could, but this would make it more likely) Proctor and Grandison would more than make up for losing on Keels or Green. And Baker.

My friend Chris you are PREACHING TO THE CHOIR!!! OFC

Who is to say Proctor isn’t the first guy off the bench for either Roach or Grandison. I could easily see that happening at least to start the season with more of an experienced lineup. I think it should be whoever wins the starting spot. Both players should still get plenty of time. I hope Duke can get him.

This would give us a very solid 8, with Mitchell, Grandison and Young off the bench. Schutt, Catchings and Blakes if needed. Very well balanced bench. Might squeeze out Catchings and Blakes, but if you can add shooting and experience you need to do it. If Schutt shoots well he will get some burn as the 9th guy.

You all have seen who else offered him right ? The word is UCLA is the team to beat he is high on them . I’d like to have him at Duke though for back court leadership to help out Roach.
Proctor didn’t reclass to come off the bench .

They did some very Duke-like things...yes they moved Love off ball, but they also shrunk the rotation playing the best guys heavy minutes and shooting a ton of threes....something that unc fans chastised K for relentlessly...so many times a unc star would be balling and next thing he is on the bench for no apparent reason for someone who had no business in the game😆

The word was that we'd get Keels or Green, so I'm not too high on the word these days. :)
