How long till..

Proctor, Stewart, Mitchell back and a portal guard and we're good to go. But another mass exodus will be hard to take.

Ball Durham has an article on who they think stays and goes.
Stays: Foster, Proctor, Power, Stewart,
Goes: McCain, Blakes, Roach, Schutt, Flip, Mitchell.
I would be pretty happy with 3 rotation players back plus Power. I would be thrilled with a Proctor/Foster backcourt. Would need a portal guard for depth.

That was very close to what I had as leaving and staying, Mitchell was my only difference. As for guard depth, Duke would only need role guard (3 point specialist) since Proctor, Foster & Evans could handle major of the minutes for those two spots. I would be happy if that was the roster though. I’m still wanting Mitchell back though too.

You are correct about Harris, boy can shoot. My only issue with him playing SG would be if he can defend college SG’s. I think he is a perfect 3 or SF in Duke’s system. But maybe in spot minutes his Freshman season. Who knows maybe with Duke off season program he can do it. I’m excited to watch his development.

I want Mitchell back too. The Harris kid has a great 3 point stroke and could play SG, but he's a 4 star freshman so I'd rather have him coming off the bench.
If Stewart stays, I don’t see Mitchell back. No offense, I’m fine with that. I’m also not sure how good of a guard Duke can get out of the portal if Proctor and Foster stay.

We have to remember we won’t have a 9-10 man rotation all season.

I have doubts we get both Proctor and Foster back, but I'd gladly take it. Seems like we get either Mitchell or Stewart back. Blakes could be the backup pg if he stays. Those 5 back would be a nice foundation but seems optimistic.

Maybe. But he's big and has a nice shot. Reminds me of Keels. Keels had a rep as a shooter in high school.

I feel strongly that Schutt comes back He just said within the last month or so that he loves Duke. He will have every chance to be in the rotation next year.

I feel badly about Mitchell. I like him but he hasn't developed and I can understand why he would feel like a change in scenery would be helpful. But I'll happily take him back if he wants to stay.

Rese coming back is starting to grow legs. He very well may be back for a junior year which is big.

Who are our big MEN next year?

Reeves - Junior (injury prone)
Ngongba - Freshman
Maluach - Freshman

Is that going to get it done?
With Reeves gone and Ngongba possibly using a RS unless he is back to 100% healthy, we really need to get a Center out of the portal. Stewart can also pull some minutes at Center if we’ve got Flagg and Mitchell also in the front court. Being able to have a front court that goes 6’8, 6’9, and 6’9 would work against 75% of our opponents. Add in the fact that Stewart is really long and can jump out of the gym.

If Malauch struggles getting used to the college game, I wouldn’t mind seeing a starting lineup with Foster, Evans, Flagg, Mitchell, and Stewart. If I’m Scheyer, that would be one way that I would sell both Mitchell and Stewart to get them to return.

Regarding potential Center targets, Danny Wolf (Yale), Tarris Reed (Michigan), Carey Booth (ND), Igor Milicic (Charlotte), or even Rueben Chinyelu (Washington State - played w/ Malauch in NBA Africa).

Ngongba playing this week in Chipotle tournament makes RS look less likely. Saw him dive on floor for a loose ball the other day.

McCain posting a mock draft of him going 12th in the draft does not give me great hope he is returning. Nor should he if he is that high in the draft. Proctor/Foster is our hope.

Reeves is gone. Flip is gone. Young is gone. You always take returning guys imo. If someone decommits that's the trade off. As long as it's not Cooper, ha. I wonder if Flip and Proctor and Roach returning caused tension with the young guys who may have thought they were gone.

I think the only recruit Jared would impact if he came back would be Harris and you take Jared without thought. I still think Foster is a lock to come back and Rese is a 60/40 return. I'd out Jared back at 20/80.

While I agree Chris . Some that are iffy need to ask their selfs, am I better fitted for next years team . Proctor , Foster and McCain( in no way do I think McCain returns .) are better suited with the length and athleticism Duke can put on the floor .
Mitchell coming back would be a defensive stopper with Proctor .
I think once the dust settles Duke gets at least three players thought to be leaving return and Stewart.

Proctor and Mitchell are the guys I want back most. Followed by Stewart and Foster. Not anything personal I just prefer upperclassman and they are more of a known quantity. Get all 4 back and I think we can go deep. Obviously McCain would be #1 but his stock went way up in the tournament.
