The publicly released version of the NoA Exhibits is 732 pages. How much longer is the version the NCAA Committee on Infractions will see?

Professor Wolf ‏@ProfessrWolf

The 49 times "does not have custody of this record" appears, additional pages of content will be inserted.

Professor Wolf ‏@ProfessrWolf

"These records are confidential education records" will be replaced by transcripts of student athletes.

Professor Wolf ‏@ProfessrWolf

The list of the Exhibits for the CoI will be far more damning than what is in the public realm.

Professor Wolf ‏@ProfessrWolf

As bad as it could be? Certainly not. Worse than unc wants you to believe? Most definitely.

Professor Wolf ‏@ProfessrWolf

Consider this, the 21 independent volunteers on the Committee on Infractions know they have professional reputations to protect.

Professor Wolf ‏@ProfessrWolf

The public, and more importantly their peers, are watching. In this era of scandal after scandal, the CoI is on trial as much as unc.

Stephanie Mavunga completes exit of 4-player unc women’s 2013 class

Two years ago the North carolina women’s basketball program welcomed one of its best recruiting classes – if not the best – in school history.

Now, amid questions of how an NCAA investigation into a long-running scheme of bogus African Studies classes might affect the program, every member of that recruiting class will soon be gone.

unc announced on Friday that it had granted Stephanie Mavunga, an All-ACC forward who was the last remaining member of that four-player class, her release to transfer. She said in a statement that she hasn’t decided where she’ll transfer but that she’ll explore her options.

Mavguna’s decision to leave the program comes the same week that Allisha Gray, an all-conference guard, was granted her release to transfer. Jessica Washington, a reserve guard, announced her intent to transfer last month.

The most heralded member of that class, Diamond DeShields, left the program after her freshman season. She transferred to Tennessee, while Gray has decided to play at South carolina.

The departures come at a tumultuous time for the unc women’s basketball program, which could face significant NCAA sanctions resulting from the paper class scheme. The NCAA enforcement staff alleged that Jan Boxill knowingly provided women’s basketball players with impermissible academic assistance and extra benefits during her tenure as the team’s academic counselor.

Boxill, who was also a philosophy instructor and the director of the Parr Center for Ethics, is the only individual who worked directly with a team to be charged with a violation in the Notice of Allegations the NCAA recently presented to unc. Because of that, the women’s basketball program likely has a greater chance to endure more significant sanctions than other sports.

“There has been a lot of speculation surrounding our program in recent weeks and that’s all that it is – speculation,” coach Sylvia Hatchell said in a statement. “Our players are working every day to get better and I appreciate their efforts. A number of former players have reached out to me with their support. We have a strong and loyal Tar Heel family.”

Severity of unc probation for academic scandal questioned

To national fanfare last month, unc-Chapel Hill announced a new research push with GlaxoSmithKline with the audacious goal of curing HIV/AIDS. If the quest is successful, it would be a historic accomplishment in science, saving millions of lives around the globe.

The splashy announcement was followed a month later by a reputational blow when unc received probation by its accrediting agency – a serious and rare sanction for a university of unc’s stature.

Probation is a step shy of unc losing its accreditation altogether, a situation that can be insurmountable for any college because it means the loss of federal funding. In the vote to deliver probation, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools’ Commission on Colleges cited seven accreditation principles that unc failed to comply with, including institutional integrity.

The NCAA may not be the worst of unc’s worries, though. After all, many of the university’s peers have been investigated and punished by the NCAA. Few have been hit with a serious accreditation scare.

“This is a major embarrassment for what is, by all accounts, one of the best research universities in the world,” said Terry Hartle, senior vice president of the American Council on Education. “This is the sort of problem that should not happen at a place like unc.”

Hartle pointed out that The Times of London recently put unc at No. 46 on the list of the world’s best universities, “which makes this all the more troubling for anybody associated with the university.” unc had ranked 30th on that list five years ago.

...20 colleges and universities in the U.S. received probation in 2014. Only 16 had their accreditations withdrawn.

Sanctions are most typically given to universities on the basis of financial problems...a few were placed on warning – a less serious sanction than probation.

Only six were put on probation or continued on probation this month. Besides unc, they were: Louisiana College; Bauder College and Paine College, both in Georgia; Bluefield College in Virginia; and South carolina State University, which this week declared financial exigency, akin to bankruptcy.

Brian Rosenberg, president of Macalester College in Minnesota, wrote a scathing column last year for the Chronicle of Higher Education arguing that unc should lose accreditation....

http://chronicle.com/blogs/conversation/2014/10/24/unc-chapel-hill-should-lose-accreditation/

“Any accrediting agency that would overlook a violation of this magnitude would both delegitimize itself and appear hopelessly hypocritical if it attempted, now or in the future, to threaten or sanction institutions – generally those with much less wealth and influence – for violations much smaller in scale,” he wrote in October.

“If it’s simply a one-year waiting period, at the end of which accreditation will be more or less automatically granted, it doesn’t seem like a very serious response to dishonesty of this magnitude,” he wrote in an email. “If, however, Chapel Hill will have to provide evidence of a change in culture and oversight in order to receive full accreditation, then the response of SACS seems to me appropriate.”

Dear unc administration: How can Jay Smith tweet the following but not be disciplined for FERPA violations?

Is there any doubt WHO this clown works for? I thought it was unx but that can't be right. Tenured profs are keeping their mouths shut over this mess but a freaking "learning specialist" is publicly baiting his superiors. Athletic interests really DO run things there. unx cares nuthin' about academics about their rep about women's basketball about women nor do they care about minorities...African Americans in particular. Everyone and everything can and will be scapegoated in the service of protecting Dean's legacy , Roy , MBB and banners. Honestly , if this was Duke , ya'll could have it. I'll watch something else. What a cesspool of corruption and embarrassment. A laughingstock. unx doesn't care about FERPA nor do they care about student privacy. They only care about concealing the truth. Mary has said it from jump..."the truth is in the transcripts." She's right , unx KNOWS she's right and Jay Smith's recent tweets confirm what many have known for a long time now...he and Mary HAVE the transcripts. unx may yet skate but not without this damning info becoming public...and it would appear it WILL become public unless unx does the right thing. They've yet to actually DO the right thing so I ain't holdin' my breath.

Re: unc Scandal: 2005 team took 100 paper classes

Guys the lying is not new. The same lies were told to the recruits they signed this year. I taught 2 of them. 1 of Huckleberry's and one of the Hat's. Both told me straight up that they felt a bit misled. The BBALL guy is not waivering due to his overall situation and ties to the school. The Hat's player told me he is already calling around trying to find a landing spot next year after the hammer drops. His parents are not happy at all. Sad thing is that he LOVED state and tried to play the game too long and lost his offer when others committed and we had a coaching change for his position. Basically got pigeon-holed in to uncCHEAT unless he wanted to go out of state (which he never wanted). NOw he is dealing with that. Great kid and I feel bad for him. As for the basketball kid.........he would've been better off committing to Davidson and staying home.

Well , I guess we know who THAT is. Lulz.

The University of North carolina-Chapel Hill scandal is one of the biggest ever in collegiate sports. As we wait for the NCAA to deliver a punishment, lets look back at some sport scandals and the sanctions enforced.

The Tar Heels have possibly attempted the biggest academic fraud in collegiate history,

The university, academic department, and athletics made a mockery of the NCAA, at the time where the industry's enforcement has been lukewarm.

This scandal in particular bypasses others, especially USC's back in 2004.

Easing NCAA concerns

This was the third Freak Show that Fedora had hosted – UNC has done it every summer since he arrived – and this one was especially important given the specter of an NCAA investigation that's not yet complete. Fedora, at least, is used to recruiting amid these circumstances.

He and his assistant coaches fended off rumors and negative recruiting while they put together the class that signed with UNC in February. Now it's more of the same, except Fedora has found optimism in what the NCAA's Notice of Allegations contained. Or, rather, what it didn't.

“As soon as something new comes out, like the Notice of Allegations was the last thing, it just reinforces what we're telling all of these parents and recruits,” Fedora said. “So it really has kind of helped us as it's gone along, because the things that we've been telling in advance, the things happen.

“So they know that they can trust us, because the things that we've said are happening.”

Before UNC received the NOA, Fedora and his staff had been telling recruits and their parents that the football program would not be charged with committing any violations. And it wasn't.

Fox, the linebacker who had “T-Monsta” written on his arm, committed Saturday night after his fears of possible sanctions had been quelled, he said, thanks to discussions with Fedora and Bubba Cunningham, the UNC athletic director. Elder, the offensive lineman, said he had questions, too, that had been answered.

“The more I talk to coach about it and the more he says the same thing, (which) I 100 percent am with him on, and it's that the NCAA, in the (NOA), they never named football specifically,” Elder said. “So I just trusted him and I knew he wouldn't lie to me or anything like that. I know they'll be OK.”

Elder and Fox said other schools have brought up the possibility of sanctions at UNC. Fox said reporters who work for websites that cover other schools have reminded, him, too, that UNC is awaiting the results of an NCAA investigation.

“I see it on Twitter, too,” Fox said. “Every time I post something about UNC, they're telling me about the sanctions, something that might happen. But it's not going to happen now, so we're good.”

http://www.newsobserver.com/sports/college/acc/unc/article25178989.html

Never named football specifically , huh?? We're good? Not charged...?

It gets worse. Roy is one more lyin' sack...

Williams says sole mention in NCAA's notice brings him 'sense of relief'

...but Roy Williams said reading the report did provide him at least some temporary personal relief.

"I've said I felt very comfortable for a very long time because we've been investigated by 73 people and all 12 disciples of the Lord, it feels like, and every one of them has said Roy Williams didn't know anything about this; he didn't do anything,'' Williams said Tuesday during an interview with ESPN.com and Yahoo! Sports.

I have felt doggone good for a long time.

Williams reiterated what he has long contended, that he had no knowledge that his athletes were taking paper classes. Even more, he repeated that when he took over at carolina and noticed the preponderance of athletes clustered in the major and taking independent study courses that he spoke with his staff about changing it.

Five members of the 2005 national championship team were listed as African and Afro-American studies majors, taking classes that have since been revealed to be fraudulent.

... but Williams argued that despite the paper classes, his players were, in fact, eligible.

"Even if you give a guy four Fs in that spring semester, he's still eligible,'' he said. "We didn't have ineligible players. They took courses that the university offered.''

"No, because it's been so bad already. It can't be any worse than it is,'' he said.

Roy Williams not sweating academic fraud allegations at unc

"I'm still ticked off that we're in a problem to begin with," Williams said. "I'm embarrassed by it. I've said that publicly and I'm frustrated by it.

"But at the same time, I've said I felt very comfortable for a long time. We've been investigated by 73 people and all the 12 disciples of the Lord it feels like, and every one of them has said, 'Roy Williams didn't know anything about this; he didn't do anything.'

But how can you say it's relief when there are five allegations against your university, very serious things, how can it be a lot of relief? I did feel very strongly, very comfortably … we didn't do anything. In fact, I've gotten some credit for moving away from the AFAM majors and classes and we did, but it wasn't because I did anything wrong."

Williams and North carolina did eventually move their players out of the AFAM major – but the majority of the 2005 national championship team was in that major. When asked if he had concern about having that many players in a tainted area of study, Williams said no.

"They were juniors when I got here [in 2003]," Williams said. "I can't change their majors. Think about that."

He said the 2005 championship should not be vacated and that even if players were given no credit for the AFAM classes, they still would have been eligible.

"Even if you give a guy four Fs in that spring semester, he's still eligible,'' he said. "We didn't have ineligible players. They took courses that the university offered.''

Mary Willingham: Profile of a Whistle Blower

If you don’t know by now, Mary Willingham is the person who confirmed the unc Academic fraud scandal and broke it wide open. She’s the John Snowden of unc athletics. While Snowden informed us all that we were being monitored by the NSA, Willingham exposed the corruption of the Chapel Hill's “mother of all academic fraud violations.”

Mary Willingham's role in the exposure of the fraud only confirmed what The Raleigh News & Observer (N&O) reporter Dan Kane and two other N&O investigative reporters found.

Throughout the article, you can see instances of a "shoot the messenger" mentality within the unc administration.

CNN article Death Threats and Denial shows the ramifications of Mrs. Willingham's whistle blowing. The university's effort to save the basketball program has been clear from the beginning and the article shows that Willingham, as of January 2014, has received four death threats and more than 30 "alarming" emails.

... but the basketball program likely will get more than a slap on the wrist.

Dan Kane, the Raleigh News & Observer (N&O) chief investigative reporter, is said to be the most knowledgeable when it comes to the scandal. He says unc basketball is not out of the woods just yet.

unc AD: On-field success 'overshadowed' by academic case

...an overall 2.96 GPA for athletes.

On-field results offered better news, with the Tar Heels finishing fifth nationally in the final Directors' Cup Division I standings released Thursday. unc was 14th last year in a rare finish outside the top 10.

Highlights included women's lacrosse reaching the NCAA final, field hockey's sixth straight appearance in the national semifinals and the men's and women's basketball teams advancing to the NCAA Sweet 16 together for the first time since 2011.

The biggest surprise was baseball missing the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2001 - a streak with six College World Series trips in eight years - in a stumble Cunningham regarded as ''an anomaly.''

http://sports.yahoo.com/news/unc-ad-field-success-overshadowed-academic-case-181535242--spt.html

The GPA is a joke. Will anyone believe anything comin' outta unx with regards to an athlete's academics ever again? That's rhetorical. "No. No they won't." Oh and about that Director's Cup finish. Women's lax and field hockey? Seriously? Ok , sure. Whatever. Who cares? Men's basketball? Ya kiddin' me? The women? Even unx says their dirty as evidenced by their attempt to throw 'em under the Roymobile. Doubt the ladies even make the post-season without Boxill. That leaves baseball. Mike Fox' program implicated in the paper class scam and , SURPRISE! SURPRISE! , they miss the CWS. Bubba calls it an "anomaly." The rest of the planet calls it , "busted." Gonna have to cheat better next time , Mike. Personally , I wasn't shocked to find out baseball was wettin' its beak in the scam. That program went from zero-to-sixty in 2 seconds flat. Hobbs Johnson... flunking out then grabs 4 A's in summer school. Way to go , kid. Musta really applied himself but I digress. 5th place not lookin' so impressive anymore.

Ya know , I usually don't like to disparage kids for doing what they wanna do but it's tough in this situation. I'll just say this. Hopefully , the NCAA does their job and nukes unx back to the Stone Age THEN this young man ( and his brother! ) will have plenty of time to contemplate the error of his/their ways. However , I have zero reservations disparaging scumbag adults so I'll just say "Eff Fed and Eff Roy..."

The final piece of the puzzle for Surratt to flip, according to sources, was the unc coaching staff promising Surratt's younger brother, Sage, a walk-on spot on the Tar Heels' basketball team.

Chazz Surratt on NOA affecting unc football:

“The coaches said that their lawyers told them 100% the football team won’t be touched.”

Lack of institutional control

This is the big one.

The NCAA accuses the university of failing to monitor the actions of the AFAM department, the athletic department academic advisors and Boxill. It singles out football, men’s basketball and women’s basketball as the programs that benefitted the most from the lax rules compliance.

Instead of implicating a person or group, this charge points the finger at the university as a whole. In the NCAA’s eyes, the misconduct was so broad in scope, everyone shares in the culpability.

Morgan Randall: unc players not to blame for scandal

“If you wanted to go to school to get an education, you should’ve gone to (expletive) Harvard,” unc football coach Butch Davis said. After a few seconds of silence, we started laughing and cheering. As scholarship football players at unc, we knew we were there to play football, but hearing the head coach proclaim it with such eloquence was a real treat.

Today it appears the unc administration agrees with Davis, at least when it comes to its athletes.

The “paper classes” at the heart of the unc scandal have widely been condemned as insufficient to qualify as college credit. Having taken two of these classes, I can confirm this to be the case. And while the courses took relatively little effort, no one questions whether I fulfilled their requirements.

This clear violation of academic integrity has prompted the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to place unc on academic probation. And in an effort to get the scandal behind it, the current administration seems more than willing to also accept NCAA sanctions that may include vacating wins and forfeiting postseason opportunities.

While many (especially those at The N&O) salivate for penalties like these, I see this approach as selling out students. The existence of “paper classes” was the university’s failure, not mine or my teammates’. Our wins on the field came through tremendous sacrifice – a sacrifice unc demanded of us. If someone didn’t qualify academically to play, it was up to the university to bear that out. unc, therefore, should stop blaming the victim for a dilemma of its own making.

Rather than accept the NCAA’s perverted definitions of “morality,” unc should stand up for its students. It is long overdue for an institution to resist the many injustices the NCAA advocates. I, along with every other athlete, did what was asked of me and more. Submitting to such punishments would provide a convenient scapegoat but in actuality only demean the athletes’ talents and efforts.

The university’s mea culpa is insincere if it sells out the students it is supposed to value and protect.

Maybe I should have taken Davis’ advice and gone to Harvard instead. Then perhaps my university would have valued at least part of my college career.

Williams helps steer Surratt to unc

Score one for Roy Williams.

According to multiple reports, East Lincoln multi-sport standout Chazz Surratt has decommitted from Duke and now intends to play basketball and football at North carolina.

Surratt told Tar Heel Illustrated (in subscriber-only content) that Williams, who is the Tar Heels basketball coach and a Western North carolina native, offered him a preferred walk-on spot over the phone Thursday.

Been sayin' this myself forever. All that bs about "Unfair to sanction current players" is just that...bs. School has to be sanctioned and players are part of the school. Nevermind that this is 2015 and this thing called the "internet" exists. These players went in with their eyes open. Heck , half of 'em went in wanting the same deal the others got. Maybe if unx loses enough recruits because they continue to lie , the flagship might finally stop cheating...somewhat. Anyway...

Michael Hausfeld has to be happy Morgan Randall offered a public deposition in the McCants/Ramsey vs unc/NCAA case. http://www.newsobserver.com/opinion/letter...le25608529.html

B. Martin ‏@yibyabby

@ProfessrWolf I don't understand that editorial. Who in this saga is blaming players? Everyone seems to be claiming advocacy for players.

Professor Wolf ‏@ProfessrWolf

@yibyabby I agree with him. The University is to blame for lack of academic oversight. Every class should be worthy of college credit. I'd like to know the circumstances of his enrollment. Did he enroll himself or did ASPSA place him there?

Jay Smith ‏@jaysmith711

@ProfessrWolf @yibyabby Very hard to say. Those classes were "used" for many purposes, including creation of free time. Steered is possible.

Joy Renner and the Faculty Athletics Council held listening sessions on campus following the release of the Wainstein Report. When 9-month faculty return to campus, the unc Office of Faculty Governance should hold listening sessions to address SACS’ decision.

Jay Smith ‏@jaysmith711

@ProfessrWolf This common sense suggestion will be ignored by faculty convinced that unc has "suffered enough." That's...most faculty.

Jay Smith ‏@jaysmith711

@ProfessrWolf @yibyabby @jdthomas59 If wins/championships are vacated, you could say past players are harmed. But years after, who cares?

@jaysmith711 @ProfessrWolf @yibyabby System broken when HOF coach says "he's still eligible if he made 4 F's." Maybe true but wrong message

Jay Smith ‏@jaysmith711

@jdthomas59 @ProfessrWolf @yibyabby Indeed. "He's still eligible" should be Roy's epitaph. "Here lies a HOF bb coach...."

Re: unc Scandal: Snakes offended by comparison to Roy the Liar

Just got word that favorable PR blitz is the continuing unc game plan. From what I have heard they are scheduling anyone associated with unc to volunteer to do a PR plug. The plugs are going to involve not only athletics but also business, medicine, education, law, awards given to unc grads, minority achievements, charity involvement, civic involvement, etc.

Did no one wonder why Roy was given an extension in contract. Could it have been he had submitted his resignation ?

Do you think Roy really wanted out or did he use a letter to pressure "the University" into a favorable contract that probably will not be fulfilled. PR and Law firms are milking this for all they are worth according to my source. He said the Rams Club is still calling the shots. What was interesting was that some Ram PTB are not officially members of the Rams Club and are known by only a few members.

Illiterates are no longer being recruited. unc has gone to seek interest from some strong DII recruits to see if they will de-commit and consider unc....this is being done by third parties

unx alum Bob Lee...

Oh Oh Oh ….. Last week I had lunch with a handful of longtime Franklin Streeters….. “Good” Franklin Streeters. Not the scary mouth-breathing variety. Several of my lunch buddies have names and credentials you would recognize. Of the six, FIVE were adamantly outraged over Roy’s Reward for his virtuoso Sgt Schultz performance.

They thought Roy’s raise / contract extension was “a joke” and further evidence that chaos continues to rule as regards The Great Unpleasantness.

Most ABCers think Zippy The Pinhead two cubicles over from yours is typical of “all carolina fans”. There IS a unc chucklehead faction for sure, but aplenty of very solid citizens as well. Functioning adults who have been upset with this trainwreck for quite some time.

Why aren’t “the fully functioning adults” being heard or being listened to? Because some of the worst chuckleheads have very loud voices and very deep pockets. That’s why.

Letter: Hatchell deserves to be supported by unc

How did an investigation that centered upon the men’s basketball and football programs land on the doorstep of women’s basketball? Why has a contract extension been awarded to the men’s coach but not to the Hall of Fame women’s basketball coach?

Hatchell took her team to the Sweet 16 this past year, which parallels what Roy Williams accomplished with the men’s program.

I encourage all of the unc administrators and governing bodies to support Coach Sylvia Hatchell by extending her a lucrative contract immediately. Recruiting is the cornerstone for establishing a competitive team.

Without a contract extension, you are inhibiting an award winning coach, and moreover, you are demanding that a coach put together a successful team under negative circumstances you have created.

Former unc-CH athletes want NOA added to court case

The notice of allegations sent to the University of North carolina at Chapel Hill is now the focus of a legal dispute.

Lawyers for McCants and Ramsay filed a motion in federal court Tuesday asking the judge to admit the NCAA’s report into the case. That report accused the school of offering improper academic benefits to student-athletes as a way to keep them eligible.

From the "carolina way" to the "Zeller Way?! WTF!? BTW , just as the post from PackPride I posted earlier attested to , unx will be publicizing any fluff , pro-tarhole garbage they can between now and August. Here's one more. Not fer nuthin' the Zellers sound like Mommy Dearest times 2....

Former UNC basketball standout Tyler Zeller learned stories from parents’ book

Zeller, who helped the Tar Heels win the 2009 NCAA championship, and his parents held a book signing of “Raising Boys the Zeller Way,” which documents how Steve and Lorri Zeller raised three sons

They decided to write a book about their experiences after repeatedly getting questions about their parenting techniques and lessons they learned.

“The biggest thing is that we’re not perfect parents,” Steve Zeller said. “Just little things like going to AAU tournaments and riding our oldest, Luke. We rode him hard. I tell the story (in the book) of him looking down at his shoes, we’re sitting in a parking lot, and he says ‘Was there anything I did right this weekend?’ We just tell the stories the way it is and the way it happened.”

Poster-child for collegiate corruption...:p

Martez Walker, P.J. Tucker and J'Covan Brown are the former UT players named in the story. Their methods of alleged cheating came in different ways and at different points over the past nine years. Unlike the North carolina scandal, which involved staff members, tutors, department chairs and a culture of widespread academic fraud, the Texas case appears to be a few players perhaps trying to get by on their own nefarious means

David N. Camaione: unc must fix wrongs

Morgan Randall’s opinion, in his June 27 letter “unc players not at fault in scandal” citing student-athletes enrolled in bogus courses are victims and should be not blamed, is not only myopic but naive.

Having admitted the courses were insufficient, how does he feel about accepting fraudulent credit or watered down requirements that other students worked so hard to attain honestly? How can he look into the eyes of his nonathletic student friends and say he earned that grade? Should he not adhere to the same rigorous standards as all other students?

Claiming the university to be at fault for creating these bogus classes is accurate. But saying that working hard on the gridiron gave him some sort of privilege to cheat the academic process is unworthy; he was an opportunist, not a victim. He was as culpable as his coaches and advisees and could be called a co-conspirator.

The registrar’s office should examine the transcripts of every student enrolled in these classes. After erasing the “unearned grades,” those students failing to meet the minimal total credit hours or GPA for graduation should have their degrees rescinded and returned.

That’s what great universities do; they correct their wrongs

James Scatliff: All at fault at unc

Regarding Morgan Randall’s June 27 letter “unc players not at fault in scandal”: I am writing to express my disappointment in my fellow physician’s letter. Randall indicated that students shouldn’t be faulted for taking the unc paper classes.

There is exceeding pressure on our athletes to spend considerable time on the practice field or floor or in weight-training rooms. There is great fan support for winning teams at unc including my own.

However, a university is a place for learning whether it’s medicine, law, business, history, art, music or the many avenues that help students understand and go forward in our world. It’s not just an off-tackle play.

Our administrators, teachers, coaches and students should see that education is going on well and with meaning.

DITCHING INTEGRITY: US COLLEGE SPORTS IN CRISIS

The University of North carolina admitted athletes, some of whom could barely read, kept them heavily involved in their sport throughout the entire year, and used them primarily to bring revenue and prestige to their athletic programme. Like the plantation owners of old, the university was more concerned with keeping white folks happy than with teaching their workers how to read.
