NBA Playoffs Thread

Congrats to everyone who enjoys rooting against the prodigy who came from the projects and has more power in the NBA than his billionaire owner.

In a few months when James ditches Cleveland again (I don't necessarily blame him) the big winner will have been Kyrie Irving whom wasn't left holding the bag

It was always doubtful (<50%) James would spend his final Elite seasons as a Cavalier. Irving knew it and once he left, that percentage dropped to less than 20% IMO

It's comments like this that will make people want to root against him.
How anybody can want to root for these Warriors over LeBron, I can not understand. And I definitely don’t want to hear about Quinn Cook. I’m sorry, but like another poster pointed out, Quinn is on the bench chilling in street clothes.

Seriously, what has LeBron ever done that is so wrong???? Please tell me what superstar player in the NBA is so much more of a respectable person than LeBron???? What superstar player in any sport is so much more respectable than LeBron????

I can’t stand either team. I’ve defended Lebron in this thread, and I’ve called him out where it’s appropriate too.

Gilljet, I agree with you. The negative on Lebron though is exactly what Steven A Smith said last night. He deserves all the credit for dragging this bunch to the finals, and he deserves the credit for the team he is playing with.
He comes off like he's bigger than the league.
We better enjoy Lebron though. He probably only has a couple dominant seasons left in him.
Father time is undefeated.

Some duke fan you are.

Steph Curry is every bit as respectable superstar. I’ve never seen Steph have a coach run out of town after taking his team to he finals or run for greener pastures or demand the team ran his way or the highway.

The fact is the warriors wanted on defense last night a lot more than the Cavs and LeBron included.

Fact is the warriors are fun to watch and I love watching them spank weak teams like the Cavs. Draymond, Klay and Steph are awesome and got what they earned last night. Their third ring.

And now our own Quinn Cook is a champ. Quinn Cook - undefeated in NBA finals
LeBronn James 6 loses in NBA finals. Pretty pathetic to have lost so many.

I love Quinn Cook, but he hardly played in the Finals. I am proud of him making it in the NBA, the guy has worked hard to get where he is at. As for you bashing on LeBron’s Finals record. LBJ’s Finals teams were only favored to win 3 out of the 9 times he’s been in the Finals, so I wouldn’t call it “pathetic”. Jordan never made the finals without Pippen, let that sink in.

I didn’t mean to sound negative towards Quinn. But for me, Quinn is only a small consideration here. Maybe if he at least got as many minutes as somebody like Livingston, then I could think more about the Quinn factor in these Finals.

But let’s face it, when people look back on this Warriors dynasty, they aren’t gonna remember Quinn was even on the team. His name will not be brought up. Now maybe he eventually plays more of a vital role for these Warriors. But as of now, Quinn will be forgotten.

So for me, this all comes down to LeBron and his Cavs vs. these Warriors (again not really thinking about Quinn here). A Warriors team that has Kevin Durant, who did the most p**** thing any man has ever done probably in the history of professional sports. I’m sorry, NO WAY am I rooting for that.

What’s funny is Lebron is still more popular and talked about more than the whole Warriors team.

Even funnier is 5 years ago it was a sin to say Lebron is better than MJ.....times have changed. Lebron>MJ.

And if you base your rooting interest on a couple internet comments, lol, the ignorance falls on you!
I like Lebron, I've never said anything bad about him. I just get sick and tired about all the fuss people make about overcoming such obstacles. He is probably the most physically gifted athlete of all time. It sounds like you need to get a grip and quit worshipping the guy.

Also for people mad about the warriors, this has been the way of the NBA forever. The same teams win it for years and years until a new one comes in and wins it for years and years. And so on....

Exactly starting in the 50’s several teams have won multiple championships in the same decade. There have been 5 teams that have won 3 or more championships in the same decade and 2 of those teams have won 3 ore more championships in multiple decades. So lime you said it makes no sense for people to be upset that the Warriors have won 3 championships in the 2010’s.

Keep your head up

But
0-1 vs Dirk
1-2 vs Duncan
1-2 vs Durant
1-3 vs Curry

Best player of his generation is debatable. Comparing to MJ is comical.

It's a free country and you can root for whoever. Why not root for Curry that nobody wanted out of high school but Davidson and stayed with Davidson once he had star status. Take Curry off this Warrior team and they probably don't win the west. James may be a better person but basketball player in their prime I'll take Jordon because of his competitive drive. His teammates gave it their all because he demanded it

Of course people can root for whoever they want. But to me, something strange is going on if people will root for Kevin Durant over LeBron.

Do some people somehow not understand what Durant did? Seriously take the time to think about what Durant did by joining the Warriors. Really it shouldn’t require much thought at all. Durant is pretty much the last guy in the league worth rooting for. How can LeBron have possibly done anything ever to piss off basketball fans more than what KD did? I’m completely baffled by this.

Why would what Durant did make me mad? My team is the hornets. The slither of hope they had of ever being in the NBA finals died when the stupid lottery kept Anthony Davis out of their hands. Durants move never had an impact on the Hornets finals chances; they never existed.

What was I suppose to think when Bron went to Miami to join with All-Stars?

So Durant wanted to play for the Warriors, big whoop. I deal with mothers with substance abuse, teens who are suicidal, men accused of Adultery, people struggling with porn addictions for a living.

Oh no, Kevin Durant wanted to lay for a championship team for an easier opportunity to be a champion, how can I live with myself.

Very happy for Quinn, he deserves it. Earned his place in the NBA with hard work and persistence.

LeBron had no chance and he realized that after game 1. He fought hard the next 2 games and ultimately gave up emotionally in game 4. He is the greatest 5 on 5 basketball player there has ever been IMO. But he only had one aging All-Star with a plethora of role players. He's not going to beat a team with 4 All-Stars mid-prime, 2 of whom are top 5 players in the league, 3 of whom are top 5 shooters in the league, and one of the best team players in the NBA in Draymond. This Warriors team is one of the best ever. And it's pretty fun(and interesting) to watch them change the game as we know it. Steph is hands down the best shooter ever. He deflates teams with one shot, and the other guys pounce like a pack of lions with 1 three-pointer after another.

If you expected the cavs to even sniff this championship then I don't know what basketball you were watching. The warriors are just too good. The Rockets were the only team with a legit chance, and the warriors knew after they beat them that the rings were theirs. Get used to it, because unless something big happens I can't see them losing when it counts anytime soon.

We'll see how hard Kyrie is laughing when they trade him, or don't bother resigning him (sign and trade to the Knicks most likely) next summer. In retrospect, swallowing his anger and reteaming with LBJ to face the most vulnerable GSW team during their run (and the sweep was more about the Cleve than the Warriors) to possibly win title number 2 might have been an OK deal.
.
The Cavs have a poop ton of assets. Paying the oft injured Kyrie looked like a smart deal 8 months ago. Now he looks like trade bait to acquire the bench depth it takes to win multiple titles.
.
In 20 years, reading the memoirs of LBJ and Kyrie about this era could be very interesting. I think both parties will have tons of regrets.

Unless Uncle Drew turns into a franchise, at which point Kyrie will hit "F it" on hoops.

I don’t know why you are acting like Kyrie is washed up. He was playing at an MVP level before he got hurt. Kyrie is not old either...... the Celtics have Kyrie this year in the ECF and it’s enough to beat the Cavs. The Cavs would of had no answer for Kyrie.

These GSW are hard to pull for because of Durant, the wussy way they seek out cheap fouls, and the constant whining of their entire team whines about every single call that goes against them.
.
Like many, I'd love for anyone, and LBJ is as good a person as anyone, to dethrone MJ as GOAT. Love it.
.
That said, LBJ is in the bed he literally made. He's the shadow GM, and the shadow coach. He built this team. He drove away Kyrie. He was the driving force behind obtaining Korver and JR, and the reason they have contracts which are now untenable and untradeable. And don't for a minute think LBJ wasn't behind the benching of Hood, whose bad run in the playoff started just after his wife had freaking twins. Gee, I bet Hood was the first dude in history to get shook a little when his wife popped out twins. I mean, no way that impacted his sleep or anything, right? If Hood was playing in game 1, Cleveland wins, probably follows that with a much closer loss in game 2, and heads home with momentum. Probably get a split, at worst, and this series is tied up. Or, it could be 3-1 with a ton of pressure on the GSW for the next 2 games. But Hood wasn't playing. And don't for a minute think LBJ wasn't behind that. He was. Just like he was the guy that built this roster. Only he'll never own that.
.
Which is the real reason MJ is still the GOAT.

You just hit on a lot of the reasons I don't like LeBron.

I’m sorry, but if the whining bothers you that much how can you possibly root for LeBron? He definitely led the finals in whining.

As for Durant joining the Warriors, I don’t see much difference between that and LeBron going to the Heat. Yes, the Warriors were already established but I think everyone knew what the Heat would be like. Durant also wasn’t a colossal douche about it. For everyone who hates Golden State’s showboating, go back and watch the intro of the Miami super team. The Decision was when I started rooting against LeBron more because of the way it was done than the fact that they did it. He hasn’t done anything to change my mind since, leaving Miami to go back to Cleveland once he realized they weren’t going to win 8 straight and the situation in Cleveland would be better if he went back. Now he’s GMd Cleveland into the ground and is most likely going to jump ship for a better situation for the third time in his career.

If you look at the 20 greatest players, you’ll only see one name who spent his prime years jumping from team to team chasing titles.

I haven't been a huge fan of LBJ changing teams, especially when he went to Miami. But still, KD takes the cake for going to the Warriors under the circumstances he did. What KD did is easily worse than anything LeBron has ever done IMO.

If it was the Rockets who just beat the Cavs in the Finals, I'd probably not take much issue with the 3-5 guys on this thread who seem to be basking in the glory of the fact that LBJ lost. But when it's these lame ass Warriors with super lame ass Kevin Durant, I just think yall are crazy to be so happy about this Finals results.

To be clear, I’m not a GSW fan and don’t love how Durant ended up with him through a bit of a salary cap fluke. Seeing the Rockets or Celtics pull off their game 7 would have given me a much more invested rooting interest in the finals. The finals was the NBA equivalent of UNC v Kentucky. Just pointing out why I personally root against LBJ.

KD makes one decision, and he gets written off completely. It's not a TV special decision, he doesn't throw a concert when he arrives, he doesn't play GM, he doesn't throw tantrums on the bench, he doesn't embarrass his coach during games. He's a humble dude.

As a person, KD comes off as way more likable to me than LBJ.

I have nothing but respect for what you are doing in your line of work. I'm strictly talking in a sports context here. Kevin Durant does not affect my day to day life or my well being.

I appreciate you being a big supporter of Quinn getting his NBA ring. I've sort of took off my Duke hat for this conversation because to me this Finals didn't have much of anything to do about Duke. I'm not a big NBA guy, but LBJ is my favorite player in the league. And when Durant joined the Warriors, he pretty much became my least favorite player in the league. Trust me, there are important differences in what LBJ and KD did as far as changing teams goes.

If you were pulling for the Warriors mostly because of Quinn's presence on the team, I have no problem with that. I only jumped into this thread because I got a little irked with people celebrating LeBron losing.

Are people complaining about "The Decision," really?? You mean the television special that raised millions of dollars for the Cleveland Boys-N-Girls Club??? The television event that profited Lebron a whopping zero dollars?? I just wanna make sure I understand correctly.

The fact that "The Decision" is Lebron's biggest mistake ever should tell you how great of a person he is. Has had a microscope on him since he was 16 years old and his biggest mistake was raising millions of dollars for poor kids.

Lebron haters are dumb.

I hear you man, but that one decision KD made was worth completely writing him off IMO. Maybe he can make amends someday, idk. But for right now, hell no I'm not rooting one bit for KD.

Yeah, I understand that. We just look at those actions differently.

I really started liking KD during the Olympics, especially in 2016 when the world's greatest was a no show. It also doesn't hurt that I'm from California, and was never a Lakers fan.

I’m with you, it seems to me LeBron has done a lot of great things for others and is an extremely thoughtful person.

There is no player in the NBA now that I wish would have went to Duke more than LBJ. He would make me extremely proud as a representative of Duke, with both his on court and off court actions. I’m not sure what LeBron haters are looking at when they look at LeBron’s life.

Lebron hate is really similar to Duke hate quite frankly. People manufacture reasons to validate themselves (whining about calls, the decision, etc. for Lebron - arrogant, entitled, gets all the calls, etc. for Duke). They represent the exact same impulse, which makes this conversation pretty ironic considering the venue.
