Re: 33% of the way...ACC Awards

Grant would absolutely be first team.

Re: 33% of the way...ACC Awards

agree..swap grant and hanlan?...i guess it would become clearer soon..still way early

Who would you put him ahead of? Maybe Lacy I guess but Lacy averages more points, assists and steals. I think you may could find a spot of Devin Thomas somewhere also.

Also Grant is definitely a first teamer over Hanlan right now

Re: 33% of the way...ACC Awards

Justin Anderson is definite 1st team and is right there with Okafor for POY at this point.

Agreed.

Okafor, Anderson and Grant are no-brainer 1st team selections in my opinion.

Re: 33% of the way...ACC Awards

Absolutely and are currently 1-2-3 in POY voting, at this point.

Re: 33% of the way...ACC Awards

all for fun, but who does anderson right now take off 1st team w/ 14.4 ppg 4.4 rbs 1.8 asst...uva 's success imo is a team effort...maybe lacy off?

Re: 33% of the way...ACC Awards

Yeah, I'd say right now Okafor, Anderson, and Grant are sure-fire first-team guys. I also think that Paige will play his way on too. He struggled a bit early but I think he's starting to come on again.

I dunno, but Anderson also brings huge value on the defensive end. I think he's one of those guys where the numbers don't tell the whole story.

Re: 33% of the way...ACC Awards

That's right, I never thought the guy would be an offensive threat but he is.

Duke was on Anderson at one time, I can't remember exactly what happened but he chose UVA.

Re: 33% of the way...ACC Awards

Anderson was pretty raw in high school. He might have been one of the top two or three athletes in his class, but for lack of a better term, he was offensively-challenged. In fact, until this season he was primarily a defensive specialist for the Cavaliers. I don't think he averaged more than eight points per game in either of his first two seasons.

His game has really come into form the last 15 months or so. I remember even last season at the end of the year him kind of figuring it out a bit on the offensive side. Besides Jahlil, there might not be a player in the conference who puts his stamp on a game more than Justin Anderson.

Re: 33% of the way...ACC Awards

I know that he has had a rocky and inconsistent start, but Devin Thomas has played at an All-Conference level at times. I think when it is said and done he will have played himself on to one of those teams.

Re: 33% of the way...ACC Awards

I also like Thomas but he just so far has not been able to put it all together. Perhaps he has this season but if this season is like his first two, its time for some goose eggs to be laid.

Anderson started putting his offense together during the season last season. He's a stud.

Re: 33% of the way...ACC Awards

Swofford will make sure Paige is on there just because of who he plays for.
OFC

Re: 50% of the way...ACC Awards

I only did the 1st team which was exactly as you have it now.

I did notice you had Paige on 3rd team earlier, he's up to 2nd now. He may not have time to make it to 1st team because I still think UNC finishes in 5th place ACC at the highest.

My first team hasn't changed since the first game of the ACC season, I've still got Anderson on it.

Some numbers regarding Anderson in his 10 ACC games.

Overall FG% = 37.4% (34/91)
3pt FG% = 36.7% (18/49)
PPG = 10.4 (Would have been a bit higher since he played only 16 minutes vs. Louisville)

I like the guy, but those are not impressive numbers at all. In addition, he'll have missed nearly half of conference games. No way he deserves 1st team all conference.

There's no doubt Anderson would be deserving if he had stayed healthy....but he's now missed almost half of the conference season. Does that really warrant first-team All-ACC? I just don't know. There are a lot of other guys who deserve consideration too....including some of his teammates.

I don't know....I guess there really isn't a fine line one way or the other. Honestly, I think Anderson would make a little better claim for himself on the first-team if UVA was struggling some in his absence. But that's the thing....they're not. In fact, they haven't even lost without him.

Like I said, he's a first-team talent and IMO would have challenged Jah for POY, but I just don't know if it's fair to dismiss the fact that he didn't play in over 40% of his team's games.

He may fall because of the injury but there is absolutely no doubt whatsoever he was 1st team when he was injured and it was a two man fight for POY and he may have been the leader.

No question at all.

I agree there's no question he would have been....but he only played in 55% of his team's conference games. That's my point, not that he wasn't their best and most important player. I'd be more inclined, if I was a voter, to look more closely at guys like Brogdon, Gill and Perrantes (sp) who were forced to step up in his absence.

Now, of that group, only Brogdon probably deserves first-team consideration, but I think it opens it up for Gill and Perrantes (sp) to be on one of the teams. After all, they've continued to win without him and have not lost.

Had Justin Anderson stayed healthy no question he'd be first team. However he got hurt so I agree there's no way in hell he can be first team..

In fact I'd argue strongly for Quinn to be considered for first team honors especially the way he finished. He's gotten so lethal and clutch down the stretch!
