Hello everybody. I'm just wondering who could be you guys next head coach? K will coach most likely until 2024/2025. Maybe as soon as 2023 I think.

I was thinking Stevens or Wright too. Wright would fit in well.

I'm being relatively facetious. I would love to see us go after Wright. Offer him $10M per year, maybe more.

It'd have to be a huge offer like that for him to even contemplate it, and even then I seriously doubt he'd leave.

I think he would. I pushed the idea on my fanbase, if Cal steps down he's the guy i'd go after for UK. He'd only go to UK, Duke or UNC if he goes somewhere else.

But big shoes to follow, K is the best of all times. I hate that lol

I think we have several people on the board who could do it. My vote goes to either Jeff Capel, Brad Stevens, or my Uncle Tom. He knows Duke basketball better than any armchair coach out there.

Wright isn’t leaving Nova and Brad Stevens isn’t leaving the NBA. My vote would be Scheyer.

No way it's someone outside of the program, imo.

Why are people so confident its Scheyer?
Capel is building his own Brand at Pitt. Amaker I don’t think wants any part outside the Ivy League, Dawkins is doing good at South Florida but don’t think he could handle the pressure being on the Duke sideline. Scheyer has become Dukes leading recruiter and is looked at as one of the top up and coming coaches. Hurley i don’t think wants the job he likes ASU and Wojo and Collins are still trying to build their own coaching brand .
Who ever it is will have to be prepared to take on the stress of replacing K .

Brey could be a good 5-10 year guy until someone like Scheyer is ready. Not sure Duke should be an entry level position. I still think we should go outside the tree but it's looking unlikely. Coach K was not a Duke guy.

My take on this is that there has been such an investment made on “The Brotherhood” fraternity, that i find it impossible for them to go outside.

Mannn I wanted Tony...but I get it...why in the hell would he leave what he’s built with what he can get there, having won a title, to be under a microscope trying to fill Ks shoes. I give it a 1% chance of him even considering it while building his own legacy at VA...But shit happens, and things change fast! Who knows!

Always have liked Collins for the job. Hurley or Capel would be my second choices. My money is on Capel.

None ever mentions Brey????

I like Brey, and have thought he would be an excellent TRANSITION coach to carry the torch a few years. He's relentless, and always seems to find a way to be competitive. As an ex K assistant (part of the '91-'92 staff, both nattys) it could be a real shot of momentum for us.

Flipside he didnt PLAY for K, and that likely hurts his chances. Secondly the relationship between the two Mikes has soured somewhat in recent years. Former Duke beat reporter Laura Keeley (then with Raleigh News and Observer) tweeted couple years ago, "if K chooses his successor, it will not be Brey." OFC

Quin Snyder. Wojo and Collins not producing at current schools. Amaker could not cut it at Michigan, so Ivy League good place for him. Scheyer does not have enough experience. Capel is an even better recruiter. Dawkins did not produce at Stanford; hardly setting the world on fire now. Special bond between Hurley and K, and Capel and K. Would love to see Mark Few here. Along with K and Bennett, one of 3 best coaches in college BB.

Few would be a home run hire. Why would he leave Gonzaga for here? He's had the best team for the past 2 years, and he'll probably be top 5 next year. I know he hasn't won it all; but at this rate he will. My guess is no big names will want to replace coach K.

Like Timo said I think it’s pretty much near impossible we go outside the “brotherhood” now. So I think the smart thing to do, what makes sense, and what I think will happen, is Capel gets the job, pretty confident he’d leave Pitt if Ks calling. All while Jon is still gaining more experience with K still somewhat overseeing things. If Capel doesn’t cut it ,you have Jon sitting in the oven. Make your bets😂

Just a thought here. If Jeff Capel is the man who replaces Coach K does he bring his coaching staff with him which includes ason capel part of the unc family to Duke. How would that sit with Duke fans to see a tar heel sitting on the Duke bench?OFC

as long as they win I would have no problem with it.

Who are you referring Capel to being a better recruiter over?

I think experiences aren’t gonna matter. K will have a big say in who replaces him and I do think when you look at the bench you see the next coach and coaching staff. Nolan didn’t turn down the Memphis job for nothing.
I just don’t see Capel leaving Pitt after putting forth the effort to build his brand of basketball to come back to Duke and take on the pressure of filling K’s shoes.
