The New Lounge

We must be the same age! 53? Hs c/o ‘90?

I can understand a site having a narrow focus, but then they ought to network with other places for the next step. So one place could do the clean needle/ OD monitoring “safe use” step, but then they guide addicts to the next service that helps them with recovery.

We get it wrong when we think being loving and humane means coddling AND when we think being firm means being cruel.
Class of 90. Yup 👍

Sweet! I graduated from a public hs in Raleigh, which I don't want to identify by name because that plus working in Durham Public Schools would probably narrow my identity down to a handful of people, and if you know the ridiculous measures I go to to avoid cursing here, perhaps you might understand. (I don't really believe that stepping on a crack will break my mother's back, but it makes walking more interesting to avoid the cracks, y'know?)
How old are your kids? Mine are 24, 21, and almost 16. Girl, girl, boy. We just celebrated our 30th anniversary. We got married right out of undergrad. A friend of mine refers to each year of marriage as a championship. I'd say about 23-25 of them have been 4-0 sweeps. Only 1-2 went 7 games.

I’d def call that a success. Mine are 21 and 19 girl, girl. Got 25 years. I’ve gotten real good at saying things like “ You’re absolutely right. I should have thought of that” and “ I told you when you married me that I was a slow learner”.
She’s learned that anything she wants done around the house ask me about an hour before the Duke game. This assures that it will get done quickly and done right the first time.

Your anniversary isn't June 17th, by any chance, is it? That's ours, in 1995, and in 2000 it was on a Saturday again, and we knew THREE different couples who were married that day and who celebrated their 25th the same day as our 30th.

My middle kid JUST turned 21. She's home for summer. Her big sis came into town and with my wife, they went to a winery near our house. They Ubered there and I picked them up afterward. She's been our most challenging kid, and it felt really good that she chose to spend the first part of celebrating her 21st with Mom and her big sis.

That’s wild. Ours is in Oct. Mine have been a blessing Def get all of their mother’s good traits and none of my bad
A couple rocky years early teens with one but she phased out of it. The usual “my mom and dad may actually be the dumbest people alive” little ‘tude they cop. My parents thought it was poetic justice after my teen years

Ah, well, if it was a Saturday, your 25th is someone's 30th, for sure.

My parents were pretty gracious about not rubbing it in about what I did as a teen, probably because my wife definitely didn't deserve that. In fact, I've been guilty at times of suspecting our kids were up to the same kind of hijinks I was up to at their age, and more often than not I've been wrong.

Wow! Man, it's cool discovering we have these things in common, if primarily by chance.

Not to jump in on y'all and your small world moment. But @Dattier do you remember jmoss from the college basketball board? Turns out, we both graduated from Jordan High School in Durham and went to UNCW. He was at least a year ahead of me. So we didn't share any classes. And we went to school for totally different things. But that was pretty wild to learn.

I don’t actually.
When did you graduate from Jordan?
