Tar heels being Tar heels

Pretty sad situation. I don't think this is a topic we should be making light of. Given his multiple transgressions, Lawson clearly has a problem and needs help. Hopefully he can turn things around for himself as a person.
I agree, Mark. This is way beyond being a Carolina thing. Two DUIs this year alone (and it's only July), previous arrests for underage drinking at Carolina and sexual assault (dropped). Serious intervention needed. Get your shit together, young man.

he should be in jail not an nba court...just another low class unc product that puts innocent peoples' lives at risk every day he drives

I deleted my first post. After thinking about it I realized that the guy must have a serious problem. He really shouldn't be our on the road driving. I know people that have had their D. L. permanently revoked. Seems always after midnight when these things happen. This appears to be going on for some time with Lawson. Where was his Carolina Family at teaching him The Carolina Way during his years in Chapel Hill. I know he has his own agency and the UNC program can do only so much but it's happening way too much with their athletes. Maybe they should start recruiting more rounded athletes. The may not admit it but their fans have to be getting sick of all this crap going on involving their athletes for years now. Isn't it about time for some integrity and character to come to the school that calls itself The University of The People. All I hear is from my home state is The University of North Carolina is North Carolina's University. Well it's not my university. It's embarrassing to be for that association. And before I get from some THR flamer no, everyone doesn't do it. That excuse is about as old as it is lame. Step up UNC nation and demand more integrity and character from your university. Hopefully Mr. Lawson gets the help he needs before he kills himself or some one else. OFC

I agree he has a serious problem, but no sympathy from me. I just hope his family can help him break the addiction. It's harder for some.

I will never get why millionaires don't have personal drivers for nights out on the town. We stayed nearly 40 mins from any club around here and hardly ever had problems finding a DD. And we were nobodies, lol. I'm sure he could do the same.

Many drivers with DWI's have had many more than 2 of them. Not unheard of to hear of some with three times as many. Maybe some of you attorney guys can chime in on how this happens in todays times with the media attention it often gets and how can they have multiple convictions and stay out of jail or keep a license.

"Sorry , kids. Ty's a no-show. "Traveling schedule" issues..."

Nuggets’ Ty Lawson misses own basketball camp, parents of players not happy

If you’re looking to find Ty Lawson supporters in Denver, you could normally rely on the families who pay to attend his annual basketball camp in Colorado. But as that camp kicked off on Tuesday morning in Highlands Ranch, there wasn’t much sympathy for the Nuggets star.

“You can’t miss your own camp,” said Latosha Tyler, who traveled to the camp from Pueblo with her son. “Your name is on it, you can’t miss your own camp.”

Tyler and the other parents first heard that Lawson would be missing his camp on Monday when they received a message from Attitude N’ Altitude Basketball, which cited his “traveling schedule” as the reason why he wouldn’t be taking part.

“That just makes it worse,” Tyler said. “The Ty Lawson camp was actually a gift for my son on his birthday. Definitely not a fan, I was a big Ty Lawson fan so definitely done with that.”

Camp director Nick Graham says he’s still dedicated to putting on a great camp. He said registration at this year’s camp had already suffered, likely due to recent headlines indicating Lawson would be traded along with off the court issues. Graham says they offered refunds to any parents who canceled due to Lawson’s absence.

Not everyone felt the same way on Tuesday. Some families who once defended Lawson, and took pictures with him at past camps, are less concerned if they see him with the Nuggets again.

“I (originally) wasn’t too keen on just saying, get rid of Ty, but at this point it’s like, yeah, not a good look,” Tyler said.

Hopefully they can afford to buy Meeks a jersey that will fit him this year. Last years was a little snug on him.

Lack of discipline. Here's a pic (not photoshopped) of him wearing a 'You could use a drink' shirt. An alcoholic with a twisted sense of humor?

I hope he gets himself in order...not just for himself, but for the potential victims he could impact.

That said, I couldn't help poking a little fun at him.

Hardly a joking matter. His career is starting to tailspin. You know it's bad when the Nuggets can't even trade you. On top of that, he could be one of the top 10 point guards in the league.

Get some help, Ty....while you still have the time.

he needs his license revoked and jail time...only place he's sure to stay sober (especially with a 2nd offense in less than 6 months). these unc idiots aren't going to change their behaviors by themselves with no rules or education throughout their lives including college. They don't understand whats wrong with driving drunk with their selfish view of the world and entitlement only made worse at UNC. It's a ripple effect of their huge academic scandal.

Maybe HOF Coach Roy Williams can convert that home he rented to Will graves into a rehab center for fallen Tar Heels. That way he would be a shoo in for the first Dean Smith Award as long as he wouldn't turn it down.. OFC

Nuggets Prez On Ty Lawson's Drinking: "You Could Smell It" At Practice

Now that Ty Lawson is no longer a Denver Nugget, team president Josh Kroenke is free to say whatever he wants about his team’s former point guard, and he is not holding back.

Kroenke spoke Marc Spears of Yahoo Sports, flatly stating that Lawson’s problems with alcohol began years ago, and strongly implying that Lawson let drinking interfere with his day job. From Yahoo:

“He always had an affinity for burning the candle at both ends,” Kroenke said. “We want to give our players freedom to be young guys as well. We’re not going to be drill sergeants. But we want our guys to be able to handle their personal lives on their own.

“Ty … there were times when he was better than others. But the problems have been there for several years, going back to when we were having a lot of on-court success. I don’t want to go back too far. There were just a lot of times where you were at practice and you just know. You could smell it. You know there is probably deeper issues than he would probably let on.”

One can only assume that “you could smell it” means that Kroenke could smell alcohol on Lawson’s breath during practice, which paints a pretty bleak picture. A team exec publicly saying damning things about a recently departed player is nothing new—it’s a good way to keep a potentially angry fanbase at bay—but given Lawson’s recent spate of DUI arrests, this doesn’t feel like Kroenke just throwing shit at the wall for PR purposes.

WOW! Lawson throwing his life away. Hope he can turn it around, but I've not seen many that can.
