Official game day thread- THE final four- Duke vs Houston

Think this was one of the best chances for us to win #6 and we blew it. It's hard to win it all and even harder when you have 3-4 freshman who are the main part of your rotation and playing against 22- 24 year olds. Unfortunately nothing will change with the way we recruit. It's been like that for the last few years. We put out great NBA players but unfortunately we only get those great future NBA players for only a year.
This is a bad take. Blaming it on freshmen and the way we recruit. This team wouldn't have been where it was without those freshmen, we also built a team with transfers who were veterans... The team was not the issue, this team should have won by 20. The way they were coached down the stretch was the issue.

I don't blame Gillis. Clearly his role was to go in there and match their physicality. The Cooper over the back was questionable; but is a non issue if we made the foul shot. Momentum in sports is a funny thing; at that point nothing was going our way.

Appreciate your opinion but I'm talking about overall the last few years. Not just this one. I'm just saying it's harder to win it all with freshman. Even moreso the way the portal is now asking with the juco rules and COVID players. You look at the rosters of Houston and Florida, you won't see one freshman that's part of their main rotation. The loss was on everyone, players and coaches

I believe Houston had 5 or 6 guys from last year's game, we had one. We did a great job playing as a unit this year, but that kind of thing can matter when the **** hits the fan. I think we had a nice mix of youth and experience, Houston was just a little better. And Sampson is much more experienced than Jon.

The sport has changed dramatically, it will never be the same. I’m in my early 50’s, I do not believe that Duke will win a title in my lifetime. Not until the entire model in Durham shifts from gangly teens to portal men. I absolutely believe that and the jury is out on whether Scheyer can deliver one anyhow. So we have a title game tonight featuring a guy who somehow dodged serious accusations by a number of women for sexual harassment and stalking. And another who has a very sketchy history himself with the NCAA. How lovely. 🙄

If he’s innocent I hope he sues for defamation but I’ll remain skeptical

Senior guards....both teams have them in the final...they've been through game scenarios 1000x and are calm and ready to execute...same for interior....grown men around the rim are more effective than kids coming out of high school no matter how talented. I'd like to think that we can get one more National title in my lifetime...or before my interest wanes to zero thanks to the NIL/transfer rules in College sports....I was hoping this year was it since this group was locked in and had chemistry, didn't work out unfortunately...but it's increasingly difficult under these rules and our recruiting strategy to win it all.
