Official game day thread- THE final four- Duke vs Houston

This loss hurts, big time. I have been losing less interest in sport and this definitely helps. I just can’t watch this garbage anymore

I hear you. It sucks. But my alma mater, St. John's, made the final 4 once with a hall of fame coach. We just made the final four.

Tough way to go out, no doubt. The offense got way too stagnant down the stretch, and those last 10 minutes were brutal—but that’s how March goes sometimes. Still, proud of this group and thankful we got to watch them all year. Scheyer’s still growing as a coach, and I honestly feel like the best is yet to come. Hell of a season—and already looking forward to what’s next.

We were $%#@ed. You can't call it one way and then all of sudden flip the last ten minutes. The Gillis call was horrendously bad. The Cooper over the back call was disgusting. Allowing them to mug us on the inbounds plays with nothing being consistently called was some of the most piss poor officiating I have ever seen. I will never get over this.

I wouldn't have had Proctor in the game the last 15mins or so. He did absolutely nothing all night! can't hit free throws. We need a point guard that can create off the dribble and create their own shot. We needed to put Flagg on the block for easy buckets and put pressure on the interior and maybe open up outside shot for Kon. This is the craziest trick off I have soon in some time...

Don’t understand why Foster didn’t play the 2nd half. He was more productive than Proctor tonight.

Horrible execution the last 7 minutes of the game.

Gillis getting the flagrant gave Houston life because that was a 6 point scoring possession, instead of Duke having an 11 point lead it got cut down to 8 points with 7 minutes left in the game.

Love Coach Scheyer and he will continue to Evolve but he put too much Trust in Proctor and Gillis tonight, those minutes in the 2nd half should have been Brown’s and Foster’s.

Perfect example of why I don't watch sports near as much anymore. You knew Houston was going to get the calls to make it a game late and then Duke folds....

I agree about Foster! He was aggressive and drove to the basket with authority and drew fouls. He should have been in instead of Proctor. I love Proctor but tonight wasn't his best night.

100% i was less vested this year even with this run than I've been in a long time.....
I started watching less the last 10 to 15 years because of one n done. And it was obvious K could not get most of them to be invested. I really liked this teams make up since scheyer obviously knew experience mattered more and the freshmen were more mature than most. The portal, nil, and super conferences is making me even less invested now. I watch about 4 games per season.

Bro mal had 0 boards and pat never came in

Scheyers inbounding plays were awful

We allowed coop to play 1 on 1 hero ball with pure step backs

Proctor can’t even hit crunch time free throws or wide open 3s

Were the refs bad at times? Sure. But Scheyer let this team down at the end of the day. That and proctor… well yeah.

Also sion could never inbound it and yet we continued making him? Just a piss poor coaching effort.

Look forward to Scheyer growing more but I said it after Kentucky. Scheyer has no end plays. Just let cooper do whatever was the plan

Sion is a good player, but not a great point guard. I know any criticism thrown at Proctor raises a few eyebrows on this board too. I’m not hating on the kid, only pointing out what is obvious. He’s solid on defense, but he doesn’t have enough dog in him on offense. The sad reality is he’s a streaky set shooter, and weak at the free throw line.

Cooper is normally so good he can score or create for others. When you’re playing a good team of grown men though that made it tougher on him, those weaknesses we have got exposed.

Kon got stymied too, and our 7-2 center? He couldn’t even get 1 rebound.

Pretty numb feeling and having a difficult time finding any silver lining to this. I’m not sure Jon will have a more balanced team. A final four run is great, but this was a major collapse.

I see a ton of social media chatter really crushing Jon and Rese and both rightfully so deserve criticism. But to me it was Mal. He was absolutely terrible. I just cannot get over the fact he is 7’2 and had 0 rebounds. The rebounds are why we lost and someone the size of a three story building didn’t grab a single board.

I wish Jon would man up. You make millions of dollars. When interviewed why not say well tough to overcome a complete blown call down the stretch. If we are calling that all game Houston’s entire team is fouled out.
I understand the frustration but Jon showed more class in that moment than most of us would have. He also avoided throwing red meat to all the Duke haters out there. They’d have been talking about that like we talk about old Roy’s “ I could give two sh- about the Carolina job right now” moment after the 03 final. I’m not against being candid but complaining about the refs is not going to accomplish anything

Every single close game this year Jon proved he didn't have a clue. It was the same thing in all 4 losses. Give the ball to Cooper and hope....

Big fan of Proctor, but he needs to return for his Senior Year. He is not getting drafted this summer if he enters the nba draft. Tonight’s game did him 0 favors.

A team beat us with a bunch of long rebounds off long threes which turned into wide open threes with a few long contested threes…. That was their offense …. Unbelievable

At some point you have to stick up for your team and stop taking it in the ass from the refs.....

I wonder if Foster should have been in there at the end with his quickness to break the press and he is stronger than Tyrese. They were able to hold Rese. Should have been called

We are still a young team and we looked young down the stretch. I still feel this was a good year but a missed opportunity. I did wonder throughout the year if 3 starting freshman could get it done But we came damn close. Still; the final four is where Duke should be as a program. I hope we get some guys back. Thank you Cooper and Kon. Proctor, Foster, Brown, Pat and Evans would be a nice core.
Our experience players let us down,Proctor,Sion and Gillis made losing plays. Kon and Coop had great games. Maluach should have not played 5 minutes. He was terrible from the start and 0 rebounds.

It hurts. What hurt so much about 99 is it came after we blew a big lead (18 points) against Kentucky in the elite eight the year before and then most of the team left after 99 . A lot of our guys will leave too, so there will not be a learning curve for most guys. And now we have to hear all the leaving announcements this week. But being a fan you have to take the good with the bad. And there was a lot of good this year. But; we never seemed to be very good in tight games against good teams. Especially in the last 2 minutes.

We had a great team this year, with great pro prospects, but our weaknesses showed up in the clutch, just like our other three losses. Our young guys didn't show up in the clutch, theirs did, we all were scared when Proctor went to the line, because we know that's not where we shine. Kon couldn't finish over length at the end, but that's also something we knew, and unfortunately, our Uber talent couldn't get the bucket we needed. None of these things are surprises, but it doesn't make it sting less. Now we wait on the "Duke will always be in my heart, but I'm going to follow my dreams..." IG posts.

Duke is a blue blood, St John’s is not. They are a very good program. Duke making the Final Four is very nice but this team should have won it. It’s up there with 1999 team.

I'd still take Proctor back in a heartbeat. But we he want to after this? IDK. Evans barely played; hope he doesn't leave.
Evans was getting torched on defense a lot in the tournament. I think going out like this might see Proctor return and I would love to have him back. We were gassed at the end. Reminds me of the Louisville loss in '86 more than anything else.

I haven’t been this distraught over a loss since 99. I didn’t feel like it was ours to lose with UF being as good as they are I was worried about our guards vs. theirs, but damn. Just damn.
Yeh the 22 loss and the 04 loss sucked but that 22 team was flawed and UConn was elite.
Houston made some clutch plays, hats off but damn we should beat them.

It's crazy how everyone was praising Jon coming into the weekend and now he's being trashed everywhere. Proctor was not good tonight but that kid played great for us all year. Fandom is a weird thing.
Because the coaching was non existent last ten minutes. Because proctor folded again in crunch time (unc game) . Because Scheyer drew up an awful play. Because Scheyer left a 7’2 center take all the minutes who didn’t have a rebound all game and didn’t get his other true big in. Because in all 4 games we lost in the exact same way, and Scheyer didn’t learn anything from any of them

Foster may have helped. I really don’t know. I’m sorry but Proctor’s game frustrates me. It has all season. He had his moments, but again, he’s basically just a streaky set shooter. He should be able to create more on his own, but can’t.

And when a team like Houston can make Cooper’s life a little hard, Proctor doesn’t have it in him to step up.
