Official game day thread- Duke vs UNC III ACC quarters

Should be Jon and the doctor's call. Cooper is going to want to play. But him limping off the court again would be awful.

Obviously the national championship is the ultimate goal. But that doesn't mean the conference championship isn't important at all. I want as many as I can get. Having one doesn't mean you don't get the other and not having one doesn't mean you do get the other. Any game past February, if they are good to go, play them.

And screw that, 'this game isn't that important' crap. This is unc and it matters.

My vote (which doesn't count for squat) is Flagg shouldn't play until next weekend. However, but guess is he plays tonight. As others have said, this is one of the reasons why players come to Duke!

I do think we can win without him, the margin of error is just tighter. For UNC, win or lose, they are already in the NCAA IMHO.

If we were playing Wake tonight instead would the game be as important?
If the national championship is the ultimate goal, and I agree, than shouldn't we not let our rival distract us and get in the way of that? Why play Cooper (just because we want to beat our rival) and run even a 1% chance that he gets really hurt and our tournament hopes are over?

Consistency is as important as anything. You want your guys to be on the same page and have as much elimination game experience as possible. As has been mentioned, there's a 1% chance of him getting injured in a non basketball incident, what do you do to protect him from that?

As for your wake question. It obviously wouldn't have the same prestige to it. But it would obviously be just as important in winning the conference tournament which isn't the ultimate goal, but it should definitely be a goal.

I am not even saying that Duke absolutely needs Flagg in order to win tonight. I just think that anyone who is good to ho, should go. JMO

Agree with all you said. except I don't think there is the same 1% (or whatever %) chance of him getting hurt not playing versus playing. I think there is a much greater chance of injury when playing basketball.
Duke will have him bubble wrapped until next week if he doesn't play. Other than probably some conditioning work.

Basketball players play basketball. I'm guessing just about every player, that has played significant minutes this season, has some sort of injury or sore spot. If the kid is good to go and wants to play, you play him.

There would be backlash if he steps off a curb and injures his ankle.........it's what the media does. Tune out the nonsense and play basketball.

@DukeDallas9192011015 I don't think anyone is saying sacrifice Cooper's health to beat the holes. None of us are doctors, but I think Duke's staff and the Flagg family will be able to make a better decision than us message board warriors.

To the question on the game being as important if it was Wake instead of the holes? Honestly, no. Don't get me wrong, no Duke fan wants to ever lose, but if you had to choose between losing to Wake or the holes, 100 Duke fans polled would all say Wake.

1) most important thing is Flagg’s Health and Future (he is the projected #1 nba draft pick). No need to rush him back for the ACC tournament. Duke has 8 capable guys to play today and tomorrow.

2) unc needs to win tonight to get into the ncaa tournament. If Duke wins by 15+ points without Flagg and Brown, unc is not making the ncaa tournament.

I think this one could be a coin flip. If Duke is gonna win they need everyone to step up. Khaman cant play like he's never seen a ball before. He has to be physical and not have bricks for hands. Kon needs to continue doing Kon things. Foster needs to have his best game ever and show everyone why he needs to come off the bench more. Slim has to knock down his 3s...he is due for that. Sion needs to be physical and drive to the basket. Proctor needs to be aggressive and make his shots. If this can happen Duke can win and win by double digits. My gut says Duke by 10 but I think the refs are gonna find get Carolina in.

Duke - 83
Carolina - 73

Exactly, it’s not about pain tolerance. This is the difference between his situation and Maliq’s- Maliq has to have surgery. A sprained ankle, rest it until it’s needed.

Granted it’s Coop, so he will probably just say F it I’m playing
This. If he thinks he can play I think we see him play but you don’t become generational unless you have that mentality . Still think Scheyer and staff tell him to sit his tail on the bench .

Agree and Cooper family will have input. He only has a few games left in Duke uniform and if he is cleared to play and wants to play it's a go. His mom was pissed at the cheat fans so we will see.

Like Jay Williams said at halftime of the Auburn game today. If you can play to win a trophy you play. I want to win every game I’m a part of.

Pretty sure Duke program has already confirmed coop is not playing. No clue how to post it but saw it on their x page earlier.

Wonder if they try to establish KM and Pat early. Maybe try some zone in places to keep them out of foul trouble. Got a feeling Evans is going to step up. If not, I know he will still be shooting.

I’ve always noticed big pat grabbing a lot. But should be a flagrant as per the rules for getting contacted in the face

Going to take some real coaching to win these next 2 games. Gotta adjust to what UNC doing plus the right lineups . Maybe Hubert can’t adjust?

Maluach needs to be careful. Between him and ngongba we cannot play with both in foul trouble
