NCAA Tournament with no Fans?

This would be a unique opportunity to move regionals to iconic, small venues like the palestra, maybe cameron (but it means duke cannot be in the east or the south), the phog, etc...

So far, looks like games will be played today. I bet they finish out the ACCT unless they have a problem with the new logistics.

As for the Big Dance, I just don’t see how they even proceed with the hype train going full speed. Best guess is it becomes a late April or May Madness. I just have a hard time believing there will be no champion this season. And if there is, it damn well better come as a result of actual games, not an AP vote!!

Yet the thousands and thousands of people crammed into planes over the last 8 weeks wasn’t considered as dangerous? It’s more dangerous with limited recycled air and confined space. I get it, I do, but they’re worried about some things all while oddly other things are “meh”.
So what's the answer? Cancel all domestic travel as well? Or do nothing?

I don't get it. I don't understand people who say "Why are they canceling x but not y?!" x being the thing the person likes as if they're only interested in going after your personal interests. The NBA, NCAA, etc. aren't in control of things like air travel, daycare, etc. - they're shutting down what they control. And they're losing millions of dollars in doing it; it's not like they're taking their decisions lightly or they're just wanting to ruin a few weeks of basketball for fans because they enjoy seeing sports fans cry as well as take a massive financial hit to their organizations.

I don’t have the answers but it’s becomjng a situation of CYA, not safety of the people. What feeds CYA? Anxiety, panic, paranoia....in whatever order you like. That’s what is happening now. I get it if I’m the one potentially liable. Take a small hit now in the grand scheme as long as it eliminates any long term negativity.

Btw, the covid19 is losing steam a bit already so I guarantee they’ll expand the bookends on time of being contagious to drag this out. Question of when will they do this next step? They’ll say “we don’t know enough yet....”. Lol, the easiest excuse to use. They know this strain backwards and forwards.

For selfish reasons, I do hope it blows over soon. I'm supposed to go to South America for the first time in 6 weeks and don't want to reschedule.

Looks like it will still be here if played, but not sure in Mercedes-Benz stadium now.
The tourney ain’t happening my friend. I do believe watching UNCheat get pummeled yesterday was the last college game we will see this season.

IMO the NBA did the right thing. Suspend things until they can gather more information and then go from there. Luckily for them, they have a lot more flexibility and chances are they will resume the season/playoffs in some way in a month or so.

Unfortunately, the NCAA doesn't have the same flexibility, I think the whole thing gets canceled. Sucks for everyone, especially Kansas, oh well, Kansas sucks and they deserve this after the Wendell Carter block call, just my opinion.

The NBA had no choice. Gobert played 5 different teams the last ten days. That's a lot of sweat traded around. Do they have to be quarantined for two weeks?

I’m sure they do. Scott Van Pelt was making some interesting artarguments last night talking about they probably can’t leave the arena or being ushured to a secure location to be quarantined… Has to be a little scary for some of those guys. I watch the video of Goebert the day before messing around with the microphones..... such a dumbass.

why because he wasn’t freaking out like some? If you live your life in constant fear what’s the point of even living?

Dude I get that it’s not important to you....you have been really clear about that- why you get so bent out of shape when others don’t agree with your opinion is beyond me. You seem hell bent on responding pointedly to anyone that shares concerns about the CV....we just agree to disagree.

I was under the assumption this was a message board Bolshevik 500 HP

This is a good board with a lot of good people but with guys like you it may be time to find another board...sad but true. Guys like you run people off. Either that or put your dumbass on ignore.
It's a good board man, if need to just put people on ignore. Don't leave on account of somebody that don't agree with your views.

It’s a great board and I’ve developed friendships with a few away from the board....we are all Duke fam so that should supersede everything...it does for me at least. I hope everyone stays safe.

youre literally proving my sides point of you leave because of a poster you don’t agree with you’re a very sad little man.. please ignore me if that makes you feel big though

In defense, the paranoia here by a select few is spreading somewhat. Ignore is an option, but I think you both can get past this. @pisgah101 is a good dude, and you seem to be as well.

Wtf, I sound like Dr Phil.

Well at 6’1 230 I don’t feel small but I probably should eat a few less carbs. I’m sure you intended it as an insult or denigrating but it doesn’t bother me one bit. You don’t know anything about me, my health or my family’s health so how we react to the CV is our business...you want to insult or make light of others you know nothing about means either you’re a) not very smart or b) just not a good dude.

I’m going with B. Lots of message boards have cantankerous posters...you are just another example of that.

Thanks fourteen. We can disagree about paranoia part I suppose which is not a big deal. Life is very different for everyone....I was a D-1 athlete in NC and competed in the IM world championship so super healthy a few years back but have had random pulmonary embolism twice in 9 years...we just approach respiratory afflictions with more caution that’s all. Life throws curve balls from time to time. It is what it is.

When it comes to this situation, everybody's view point is different but still should be respected. It's not about who sucks, who should play, but about something spreading and taking lives.

Even the experts are trying to figure out what's best at this moment. And the way I feel, if they don't have all the answers, I'm pretty damn sure none of us on this board do either. I'm being selfish because I want to watch my boys play, I don't know if it's the right thing or not, but it's my opinion on what I want.

That's exactly what happened on this forum. There is a reason so many good posters have left, and they are pretty clear about it.

I keep hearing about those poster. Maybe one day they will find their way back here.

I will say... losing basketball SUCKS. I mean, I went 25 years without missing a game, going back to my frosh year at Duke...

But at the end of the day, we have a 70 year old coach teaching high school kids to throw a ball in a hoop. While it sucks for it to go away, if these sorts of things can lessen the danger to our parents, our grandparents, and all the rest... so be it. Sucks, but come on... its teenageers putting a ball in a hoop. It's okay.

you’re right I didn’t know about that or anyone’s health on here. Stay safe I’m sorry if I’ve offended you. For the record I’m not ignoring anyone on here. Never have never will, it takes all kinds of kinds

Accepted and I apologize as well man. I get irritated quick....should never be that way with fellow Duke brethren. Won’t happen again...appreciate the apology Pisgah...

Good post. We never know what's happening in other peoples lives. My dad went into the hospital last month with crazy breathing problems. He came home after a week, on Valentines Day, and then dropped dead in front of my mom the night of the 15th. She called me in hysterics, with medics working on him in the background, and I had to make the call, on the phone, for them to stop working on him. It has been a heck of a month, and my mom is no spring chicken, and now we are neck deep in prepping for weeks of school closure while finishing up report cards for tomorrow and planning parent teacher conferences for next week (which now apparently will have to be teleconferences or something?) while keeping both my kids at home and my kids at school calm and also making sure that the house is prepped if things DO go really south (ah, the fun of being dad, right?)... and the virus was in the Cheesecake factory one town over, and in the hospital one town over, and I live 20 minutes from the big NY containment zone... so obviously everyone is coming at it from a different place... I think most of the folks here are just sharing what they are reading as we try to learn. I'm sure folks, including me, are getting things wrong, but what can you do, you know?

Anyway... yeah. Haven't really shared that with anyone yet. Haven't cried yet either... too much to do, too many people to support. Plus, I don't cry. I'm sure that's okay and it's not all building up to a heart attack...?:)

I thought about leaving cause the 1950/60 sense of humors terrible here
