NCAA Tournament with no Fans?

Wish the 2017 tourney was played in an empty arena. That would have saved us from that road game loss in the 2nd round. On a serious note though, I would never have guessed the Coronavirus was going to have this big of an impact on all aspect of society. Playing the tourney with no fans may possibly be an overreaction, but only time will tell.

How many fouls are going to be heard that weren't because of fan noise? Luckily Duke gets all the calls!

Just saw a tweet about Dayton students being told that since there are no classes, they have to vacate student housing. A riot breaks out and police are firing non deadly projectiles at students. This is NUTS
That wasn’t bad at all lol Dayton is an insane party school. All it was, was that they wanted one more big party before they all went home. They had streets blocked because of all the kids partying. They let them go for a few hours last night, but when they weren’t stopping they brought in police in riot gear trying to end it. Students started throwing stuff at police so they peppered sprayed the crowd. Honestly nothing too out of the ordinary for down here.

Wow! Sounds like a fun town!!

Is this on the wrong thread? OFC
We got carried away trying to get away from all the doom and gloom talk, but we took it to another thread that was made. Got sidetracked some back on page 2 by a few of us, but to answer your question, Yep.

As a few others mentioned, the no fans benefits the favorites by far. No more crowds getting behind the underdog and giving them momentum. It is also better for Duke since we know there are way more haters that are dying for us to get upset. I will be interested in seeing how the betting lines change and futures.

Interesting to see how State will play with no crowd motivation

Why would you all risk gathering in Atlanta with this horrifying zombie virus everywhere? I don’t understand. Meanwhile Corona takes out another one. Now, the guy has had 6 heart attacks , chronic heart failure, bleeding lungs, diabetes and was 89 years old, but ay. The total death toll in America, though slightly skewed due to the fact its wiping out rest homes, where many are barely alive anyway, rages on.

Yeah...Screw old folks and people with weak immune systems because of chemo, radiation or whatever. Lets not do a thing to protect them. Only the strong survive....

The fatality rate of the coronavirus is 1%. “Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, told lawmakers during hearing on Wednesday that COVID-19 is probably about 10 times more lethal than the seasonal flu.

“At the same time, he clarified that 10 times figure actually brings the new fatality rate lower than official estimates, which hover around 3%. The flu has a mortality rate of about 0.1%, so Fauci places the new coronavirus lethality rate at somewhere around 1%.” That’s the story. It isn’t that it’s 10 times more lethal than the flu, and this is how this crap gets politicized!

More fear mongering I guess. I haven't seen anyone treating it like a zombie apocalypse. Just trying to slow the spreading of a virus like we have never seen in our lifetime. Poor us we can't see a few basketball games. I type this as our president has just banned travel into our country from Europe for a month and WHO has labeled this a pandemic. Overreacting I guess. Don't recall the flu causing these problems in my lifetime.

Last week, the World Health Organisation chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus specifically warned the coronavirus outbreak shouldn’t be compared to the flu.

“This virus is not SARS, it’s not MERS, and it’s not influenza. It is a unique virus with unique characteristics,” he said.

Tedros reiterated that COVID-19 causes more severe disease than seasonal influenza.

“While many people globally have built up immunity to seasonal flu strains, COVID-19 is a new virus to which no one has immunity,” he said.

“That means more people are susceptible to infection, and some will suffer severe disease.”

He noted the current global mortality rate sits at 3.4 per cent while seasonal flus sit at less than one per cent.

Swe, I apologize for calling you stupid, I got rung up, no need in that.
