I didn't like Kobe earlier in his career, but his warrior mentality won me over. He pushed himself through injuries to play like almost no one else I've seen.

Kobe has said he'd have gone to Duke for a long time now, but it wasn't a Shaun Livingston situation, where he was in the bag, then pulled the rug out from under us by suddenly going straight to the NBA. We weren't recruiting him at the time, to the best of my knowledge, so it's really just an interesting bit of info after the fact.
