Harry Giles

Harry ain't coming back fellas. Zero chance. Zero. For his sake I hope he doesn't too. There's only been 1 one and done player we've had that I thought might come back and that was Jabari. Get ready to say goodbye to Jason and Bolden as well.

Bolden a lock to leave? I don't think so. His only chance at >$10 mil is to stay and trick a team into a first round pick. If he goes, he'll get picked up in the 2nd and be hoping to turn a corner physically. I suppose if he's failing classes, he might go to avoid college requirements. Any info about his academics?

I honestly can't see Bolden leaving after one year. He has minimum flashes and NBA size but man the NBA is watered down with all these young 19-23 olds. I can only see him headed to the Dleague if he does enter the draft. Too much basketball to learn and I can see a player like Jahlil okafor talking in his ear and letting him know that the NBA isn't all that it is cut out for... Chance to improve draft stock and be a vocal point of the team or get drafted but be behind 3 or 4 other bigs

From the article in the OP, here's the only thing I've heard straight from Harry about leaving versus staying.
"'When I envision my dreams, it wasn’t to sit out and miss another season of basketball. I’m looking at it like, I only played two years in high school. I can’t can’t miss another season. I can’t really afford that, especially at Duke, and it’s college. Stay one year, two years, you don’t know how long it is. Can’t just sit out and let it blow by.'”

Seems like Harry thinks there's a chance he'll be here next year. That's good enough for me.

Bolden leaving for what? To play in Europe? The D-League for $28k/year? To transfer to another school and sit out a year? None of those seem like a better choice than staying put and trying to impress the NBA with a solid soph year.

I'm not saying Bolden won't leave. I won't be surprised if he tests the waters to try to hear from teams to see if he'd get drafted. But to act like it's a lock he'll leave?
Please.

He's not going to say he's gone....that would be my comeback. Kyrie and Jabari said the same things. Harry coming back to Duke for a second season would be something like the Miracle Minute. Sure, it can happen, but it's a bit of an anomaly.

True.

Had he been asked specifically about returning for a second year and he said "maybe, I'm not making any decisions until after the season is over" I'd say - "of course he's going to say that."

But, he brought up the possibility of staying 2 years out of the blue. It didn't appear to me to be in any way because he was asked about staying. So, in my mind that gives it a bit more credence.

I still think he goes to the NBA. I just don't think it's a total lock.

Absolutely fair points on Bolden and the current mock drafts, but I think he will get interest enough that'll encourage him to leave.....

I agree. I don't think he should leave because I don't think he's anywhere near ready to. I just think he came into this situation as being a 1&doner and his mindset hasn't really changed imo. I hope I'm wrong but I don't see him coming back to split minutes with Chase Jeter at the 5.

I think Chase will transfer after this year if either one comes back. I just can't see him sitting on the bench again. You know how Coach K loves the small ball now. That means Carter will pretty much play all game long. If Bolden leave then Bamba may come. Chase is the odd man out for the next year at least. I would transfer if I was him

I feel for Chase, I saw plenty out of him early. Played his ass off and was disruptive down low. I hope like heck he hangs around. Javin as well.

Bolden leave? Hope he's smarter than that. I can't see anyone advising him to do such

I saw a nice write up on Alaa Abdelnaby recently. A big guy who came into his own during his senior year. Became a first round draft choice and made a lot of money in the pros. I wonder if Chase Jeter saw that article.

There will be a lot of interesting variables in the off-season. I think we all expect Giles to be gone. But some of us fear that some combination of Marques, Chase, and Javin might depart too. I think Chase is the most likely candidate to leave. One thing to consider, though, is what will happen if we don't land Kevin Knox? In my mind, I've sort of had him penciled in at the 4 spot to replace Tatum. If we don't get him, there will be a lot more minutes available - and probably a lot more minutes for bigs. We could see a combo of Carter and Bolden - or maybe Javin gets the start at the 4? Maybe Chase comes back if we don't sign Knox. I hope we do get Knox, but I think we'll be okay either way.

Maybe my ear isn't close enough to the ground but why is Javin a possibility to leave? He's a top 40ish recruit that didn't make the rotation year 1. Is this a specific rumor or general paranoia based on players of the past.

I don't think he will transfer, personally. I've heard nothing of that sort. I was speculating how their will likely be multiple moving pieces this off-season. And seeing how the bigs were minimally used this year, it wouldn't be surprising if one of them was worried about not getting playing time next year as well. My thoughts were centered on how the decisions from Knox and Bolden could impact whether or not other players come back.

I believe many have said in the past and I agree that I think Chase loves being at Duke too much to leave. He seems to have the right mindset that is if he works hard enough and pays his dues he will get his minutes over the next couple of years. Nothing would surprise me though because no one truly knows what others may be thinking.

The only way you leave early to enter the draft is if you are considered a 1st round possibility. There is no way Bolden is that unless he turns it on in the last month of the year. Even getting drafted in round 2 is not a guaranteed deal and he's not even on round 2 lists.

Harry - about 2 weeks ago - was predicted by Draft Express to go to OKC. No way. Can you imagine Westbrook's reaction? Especially if Harry can't play much next year. You're going to an 82 game schedule, traveling like crazy, trying to be fully healthy? The only team that I see drafting Harry in round 1 is one that is a winner and/or has multiple picks and one near the end of round 1. I think his best chance is Portland (3 picks in round 1, two in the 20's, 22 & 28). The could draft two players that may contribute quickly and then Harry for a risk that he'll develop. Or a winner like the Spurs. Laying aside the Duke lenses, if you're a GM on a team that needs players to compete, no way you take a risk on him.

Unrelated Blast from the Past ...

Semi Ojeleye is listed at Draft Express going #43 to Atlanta. He's become a player at SMU.

Hey guys so much speculation. I don't like to speculate about who's staying or whose leaving. So does anyone know what guru gary is saying. OFC

Gary working on keeping Jackson and Berry around another year. Draft will be much weaker next year don't you know.
