***DUKE VS OHIO STATE OFFICIAL GAMEDAY THREAD***

What the hell is up with this Joey hate? Did I miss something!? He took 1 bad shot the entire game….hell, the entire season. He’s played pretty damn good this season…

Our fanbase has an irrational hatred of Baker for some reason. I agree Ipsy. I think he's given us good minutes at times this season. But he is never going to win over some people. And I don't understand why.

He’s a senior who hasn’t developed into a high level player. Hate? I don’t. Disappointed? Yep.

I like Joey and root for him like crazy. I recognize his limitations--he has a slow and low release so he doesn't like to shoot if anyone is closing on him. He hasn't changed that in 4 years so it's not going to happen. He's no Buddy Boeheim but I love him for the loyal hard working guy he is.

All in all a very winnable game. I’m disappointed how they lost more than the loss per say.

I think I’m most disappointed in Banchero and also the staff. A few plays for him on the blocks and a little toughness and he scores or is fouled most of the time.

K didn’t run plays which is becoming a norm and Banchero plays soft and doesn’t demand the ball.

All in all we have needed Banchero in three games down the stretch…he has been MIA in all three (Kentucky,Gonzaga Ohio St).

I think he will of course end up being a star. But when we need him most so far he either can’t go or disappears….right now he’s not a star when stars need to shine.

I don’t think that’s being fair to PB in the Gonzaga game. Dude was cramping like crazy and was never feeling right even when he came back into the game.

I think it’s a bad look when a coach says his team was wore out when there’s capable players on the bench not getting any burn
We have 10 players that have played in between 5-8 games this season. 8 players have played in 8 games, Blake’s has played in 6 games and Jones has played in 5 games. The remaining 4 players are 2 scholarship players that are basically walk ons that were given scholarships that were available (Savarino & Worthington) and 2 walk ons (Borden & Hubbard). Other than Blakes and Jones playing in 2-3 games less, we don’t have any other players that will see significant minutes this season because the remaining 4 players are either walk on players or walk on type players that were given scholarships that were available.

He’s carving out a nice role this season playing good minutes . I’m disappointed in his “career” but he’s giving enough coming off the bench this year for this team to cut down the nets with our talent come March.

Game was not really that close. Duke got crushed on the boards, and OSU only made 11 of 22 foul shots, besides shooting for a higher percentage from the field. I think we are overrated at this point.

I like Joey fine for all the reasons you outlined….but in no universe does he need to get 20 min to AJ getting 2 min….ever. Makes no sense. We will have AJ for one year ONLY - we may as well use him while we can.

With all due respect have you bumped your head? 😂

23-14 foul disparity is what won the game if you want to be real and take the backlash of blaming the refs. And I’m not talking about “free throws” entirely or the points they got from the line. Yea they should have made 5 or 6 more whatever. And beat us by 10…But what doesn’t show up in the stat sheet is what they got with our guys playing in fouls trouble throughout! They changed the game…Wont happen in March. I’m not worried a bit about this loss and I don’t take anything from it other than our FT shooting at times could cost us late .

I don’t get the Baker hate or any ones point about him being average. He was brought in as a specialist period . To shoot the ball. Teams aren’t going to slack off him when he’s in the game and no one is looking for him in the corners. He’s been going to the basket more because teams don’t expect it. He brings defense and intensity. He does what is asked .
7/22 was not on Baker but on the starters. They couldn’t throw a golf ball in the ocean. This team shot only 22 percent as a group not one man.
k saying Ohio State wore Duke out is a testament that he does not trust three of the scholarship players at all. Duke played seven people last night . Your not going to win a road game shooting 22 percent at 7-22 shots it’s not happening. It was an entire program loss coaches on down .

It was a lousy loss. Despite foul trouble we were in control 5 mins into the second half even as OSU was playing at a feverous pitch, up 15 at one point. The final 15 mins was hard to watch. You could see it coming, and nobody in a blue uniform could right the ship. I share many of the same questions already posted, but K is K, and to expect him to change his strategy after 42 years is pretty unlikely. I still don't get why we didn't post up in the last 5 mins......

Give OSU credit. They played scared in the first half. They were a different team in the second half.

Oh well, I hate a loss as much as anyone. Probably like many here I was in a lousy mood all day yesterday, and tired too from lack of sleep....stupid 9:30 start! But today I look back and think it's a meaningless non-conference loss to a pretty solid tourney team on the road. We are 6-1 with wins over KU and the Zags. We will be fine. Let's plow thru these last few pre-conference games and hit ACC play at full tilt.

Let's go DUKE!

See I don’t think OSU played scared as much as it was more them trying to figure out Dukes offensive game plan. When you look at the first half OSU didn’t have three bodies in the paint but in the second when Duke brought the ball 17 feet out from the basket the help side defense was converging in on the offensive player. They probably would have stopped if Duke made outside shots and jumpers but they weren’t so their defense worked to their advantage.

I hear you Shey, but I really think their guards in the first half were scared. They were weak with the ball. It was different in the second half.

I wish someone would get coach k a copy of Hoosiers stat. Ball movement fundamentals youfeel me. The acc is terrible this year. If we start playing down to our competitions which we will I may have to get back on Xanax

I also in Dukes defense, think a lot had to do with the quick whistle blowing.
The defense is better then in recent years. The offense has looked identical to every Duke team since 2016. All can be fixed but just as much as the players need to improve in areas the coaches need to also trust the players they gave scholarships to. Mainly Griffin, Blake’s and Jones. Three minutes a game isn’t going to hurt this team to give each of them .

Am I overreacting to one loss? Maybe, but we just lost to an unranked team. This team is capable of beating anyone in the ACC, but they are also capable of losing to Louisville, UNC, Virginia, NC State (we do almost every year) and VT. We need to make some changes over the next month, get AJ in the rotation, and learn from the loss. Then again maybe we were just tired, but if that is the case you have AJ and Jones who barely played. The loss is probably good for the team if we figure out what to do different. Gonzaga looked bad too so maybe we were just wiped out.
