***DUKE VS KANSAS OFFICIAL GAMEDAY THREAD***

Despite his struggles, I'm convinced Hurt will be our leading scorer this year.

Jones stepped up when needed. White played like a senior, Stanley rose to the occasion and Javin, well I've been waiting four years for Javin and I just don't see it ever coming together. Even his pros (hustle and defence) come with far too many negatives to count on him for anything substantive.

Proud of the boys! Not pretty, but I LOVE our fight!

We are only going to get better. Like I said in the summer, prepare to win these early games with ugly defense and the offense will get better later in the season.

We just beat an experienced team playing poorly. Wow
Hope you’re right that we get better, Q. Lot of playing time to be had for quite a few kids.
Having Tre is so huge. He’s that leader we haven’t had, no disrespect to Grayson. Maybe he can keep the others from getting too high or too low.

The offense will come. Duke has scorers just not alpha scorers that’s not so bad seeing as how teams will have to plan for more then two of our players. The defense come March should be amazing.

On to the next game a lot of room for growth.

It must really suck to hate Duke and root against us. We don’t lose very often. It sure is great being a Devil.
Lmao, Denver I couldn't agree more. Those haters probably have a permanent frown on their faces to go with their fowl mouth from cussing every team and player out that was suppose to beat Duke. Bless their little hearts!

The first half for Cassius was a learning curve, he figured it out in the 2nd half. Tre was a man tonight. Best defender in the country.
Defense travels and this team plays great team defense.

Hurt and Carey played about like I expected, but I was the most impressed with Stanley. Once he settled into the game he was real impressive. I think Moore can be just as effective when settles in. AOC and Jack White played like the upper classmen they are. With Tre leading them I think we're in for a thrilling year as they grow together.

I think(and hope) cassius is a better shooter than a lot of people give him credit for. His form is really good and from what I’ve seen he’s shot at a good percentage.

The defense was great. But... to force that many turnovers and it only resulted in 69 points or whatever..

mourn offense is going to struggle. It may get be try er as the year goes on, but there is a lot to be desired.

What a gut check by this young team when down 9 in that big of an early season game in MSG! Are you kidding me.
The 1st half "D" was exceptional, and after a little letdown in the 2nd half, if anyone noticed at about the 5:25 mark, the kids turned the heat back up and the game was on!
This team will lose some games, but it will not be from fear of any opponent. We should all be "stoked" for this season, I know I am!!

Go Duke!

It's a fair criticism and yes, obviously the offense needs a lot of work and has a ways to go. That said, remember that we were also playing against a top level team with elite, experienced athletes. KU is a really good defensive team. So in game 1, with a new roster, against a high level opponent, and we did actually make good offensive plays in the clutch is all a good sign. Didn't seem like there was a ton of runouts either, the turnovers mostly led to us having to set up in the halfcourt

Trouble time now. Kansas has settled down offensively. Not going to get 18 turnovers again...

Well, Duke hung tough for a bit but this is KU’s game. Long season but not sure this team finishes top 10 this year. Let’s see if they can surprise people.

Yikes, there was no way the bad offense would continue into the second half, unfortunately for us, It's Kansas that made the adjustments.

I don’t know how we can come back without being able to score...turnovers were only reason we were up.
These type of posts always age well.... lol

White made like 4 big plays in the last few minutes. Did anyone else notice near the end of the game all Bilas was talking about was Kansas's upside and how good they can be?

Wouldn't mind seeing K go with a zone. Kansas is likely to play two bigs at a time - and their guards aren't exactly world-beaters from the perimeter. Isaiah Moss is the only really elite shooter and he's been battling a hamstring injury, so it's possible we don't even see him. If we can force them to take 30+ 3-pointers, then I think we will win.

Did I say force 30+ 3-pointers? I actually meant if we could force 28 turnovers we'd be able to win.

Crazy, crazy, crazy.

@LetsGoDuke301 @denniden for whatever reason when I cancelled my premium membership they stopped letting me post on the college basketball board. I've tried everything with Yahoo, if you can get me a hall pass I'd appreciate it.

Goldwire was a disappointment, especially for being known for his defense. Lots of back door cuts and blow bys.

Matthew Hurt I think is better than I thought. Great looking shot with a quick release. Not afraid to shoot even after a couple misses. Bigger than I expected. He looks like he will be the leading scorer and I expect his draft stock to rise as the season goes on.

Back door cuts weren’t Goldwire’s fault at all lol what are you talking about?

Yeah Hurt should have some prodigious offensive outputs, particularly in the friendly confines of Cameron.

I like our team. Tough, gritty win. Baker is another weapon and Moore is going to get a lot better.

While no thing of beauty, the boys hung in there and got the win. People weren't kidding about Cassius being athletic. Great second half for him. Great end of the game plays by Tre and Jack. I'm excited to watch this team grow and am happy the college basketball season is upon us. Go Duke!

There’s going to be some major growing pains at times this season. I just hope most of you hang in there.

Us longtime diehards will for certain.....Exciting young team blended with experienced. Beat Kansas, and still have lots of room for growth??? Yeah, I can handle that! OFC

Two KU fans I was sitting near were pulling their hair out with the TO's. Ugly win but I'll take it.

Goldwire will bounce back. He got back-doored twice on set my middle school team runs.

I thought our 3 point shooting was very effective. I did not look at the stats but it felt like we shot around 35 percent but could be wrong.

Last night did show the balance that K has been talking about. The offense was unspectacular, but Duke had 5 guys with between 9 and 15 points. That is going to have to be their way.
