Duke baseball -- 2025 season

Thanks for the premium content on the free board.

You're welcome?

Feel like I have to have this conversation every year. Why should I limit posting links to premium content on the premium board? What type of growth would that lead to? In theory, I should post *most* of the links to premium content over here as a means to encourage people to subscribe for content.

To be clear: I'm not on a set salary. My monthly pay is dictated by subscription numbers.

So, if I'm not writing premium content ... if I'm not posting links and trying to entice people to sign up for $8.33/month ... I'm working against myself.

OK. I get it. Sorry.

PS: but I'm not enticed. :)

I read it in the Chronicle.
Doesn't anybody just want to go to Duke anymore?

This is very devastating news to at least one person on the planet...me. I pretty much lost interest in college football and basketball because of all this portal and NIL crap, and Baseball was the one hanging in there, maybe because I played it. The NCAA baseball tourney had become my favorite sporting event. So it's sad to see it, too, go down.

After my freshman year, the frosh coach left to take the head job at Furman and approached at least two of us with the idea of transferring and following him. (Yes, I'm so old that back then freshman couldn't play varsity!). Transfer from Duke to Furman? I don't think so. Today, maybe Dukies would flock to Furman.

Again, very sad.

It’s not that nobody wants to go to Duke it’s the connection with the coach. A lot of them have do not contacts which leads me to believe they’re going with pollard. I’m disappointed in him. He was shocked he can’t get to Omaha yet hightails it 12 hours later? Just hate that coaches are gone before their season ends

Yesterday I said "I'm outa here," but that was two hours before I received the Summer edition of the Alumni magazine, DUKEMAG. So please indulge me one more post.
The mag has a feature article on Coach Pollard, in which he praises glowingly the character and work ethic of the Duke athletes, and goes on to say what a wonderful community Duke/Durham is to raise a family. I guess something changed his mind.
The article is entitled "Lunch Pail, " which is appropriate because if you can get your hands on the Magazine you will want to lose your "lunch."

I don't understand leaving Duke for Virginia. Maybe better pay and facilities

I like the hire, but it will be interesting to watch the progress of Dan Skirka @ Murray St. He was a finalist for Duke job and one of two candidates preferred by Duke over Muscara.

Duke wouldn't meet his price. Shortly later after the Muscara hire, Skirka signed a four year deal to stay with the Racers. He will be the highest paid coach in the MVC. Btw, Muscara will make less than the $800,000 Pollard received last season. I think Muscara is a solid hire, but believe Skirka would have been the better choice.

I thought he’d be a good choice as well, and thought we’d get him if we tried. Too bad we couldn’t strike a deal. But i still think Muscara was a good choice, even if not the best one. Now i want to see how quickly he can resurrect a depleted team.

Work cut out for him for sure Jeffrey. I hope '26 doesn't turn into a rendition of the "Bad News Bears." It's shaping up somewhat as a motley crew.
