Can anyone envision Bobby Hurley getting a look at replacing K "IF" he continues to ascend to stardom?

I really think Wojo will recruit well and win at Marquette for about the next four years and then will be in prime position to come back and take over.

The Buffalo v C Mich game is the one I'm watching...I am really into keeping up with all our old players' teams and Bobby Hurley is one of my all time top 5 favs, so I'd give anything for him to become awesome and take over for K.

There aren't 2 guys that are any better extensions of Coach K's intensity and that hated to lose more than Hurley and Laettner.

I'd take either one back as Duke head coach IN A HEARTBEAT!!

I mean, watch Buffalo's player's and how much effort they are giving, and how Hurley never stops moving and being animated on the sideline, and you can see that effort simply surrounds Hurley cause he exudes it.

I just want to see Bobby get the win right now and get to the Dance. Looking good so far. And, something about Wojo being the next coach scares me. I don't know why. I think he will leave a negative taste in many young guys mouth. The "flopping," being short and white. I don't know. I don't think he does well if he is a Duke.

Hurley has done a fantastic job this year, but I'd like to see wojo or capel. Im sure the right person will be put in place.

So happy for Bobby! He has those kids locked in. They will be a tough out for someone next weekend.

They were very competitive with Kentucky as well. I think K has another 5 years at least. I know everybody thinks along the lines of Dawkins, Collins, Wojo and Capel but for all we know we can be seeing a SPECIAL coach grow before our eyes. Who is to say that five years from now Bobby won't be a shacka smart Brad stevens type with significant upside. Bobby didn't start out coaching under K, so he didn't get to start out at a major program. At the same time Hurley has played under Bob Hurley sr who is one of the greatest high school coaches ever and of course played under K. I just won't be surprised if Hurley ends up being better than the rest. Plus I'm a Jersey guy

Coach has a lot left in the tank so I'm not really worried about who's next while we have the GOAT

Buffalo coach Bobby Hurley has emerged as the front-runner for the DePaul job, multiple sources told ESPN.

Hurley, 43, is a former Duke star and NBA point guard who took the Bulls to the NCAA tournament this year, just his second heading up the program. Hurley previously was an assistant under his brother, Danny, at Wagner and Rhode Island.

One source told ESPN that Hurley, whose team lost to West Virginia in the round of 64, is expected to interview this weekend at DePaul. He would replace Oliver Purnell, who was 54-105 in five seasons.

Parker Executive Search is helping DePaul with the process. It's the same company that was hired for the Buffalo men's basketball opening a couple of years ago.

Sources told ESPN that Valparaiso coach Bryce Drew and former DePaul star and NBA coach Tyrone Corbin also are in the mix.

Yes....easily.

Point guard that gave Duke it's first 2 championships
All-time leading assists
His pedigree includes his dad, the best high school coach in the nation, and Coach K, the GOAT of college basketball.

Honestly, I think he is the next coach for Duke.

DePaul ughhhh no! Lol wish he could go to bama or wait till more opens like IU

I love all the Duke guys, but I'd prefer guaranteed winning. Give me Brad Stevens if he wants it.

If you prefer guaranteed winning then I would say stick to CDs, you might not get the return you want, but it guaranteed...

Brad Stevens would be a home run. I don't think that will ever happen though. Frankly I hope it doesn't happen. He has been amazing for my beloved Celtics.

I personally want Capel to be the guy to take over. He's basically a second head coach now.

I concur on Brad Stephens. He would be my #1 choice following by Tony Bennett. The only way I would look at Hurley, Wojo, Dawkins, or Collins is if they really start to turn it on at their programs and reach a final four or two. I wouldn't like Capel as the next coach. He proved that he couldn't win without elite talent (Griffin brothers).

I like Tony Bennett but i don't want him at Duke, just not a fan of his style of play. nothing wrong with it if you like that style, it's just not for me. He gets a ton of success out of it though, so i'm not knocking it, it's just too slow of a pace.

I doubt Brad Stevens leaves the C's to come to Duke, but you never know. I think you're safe Denn.

I have been a huge advocate over the last few years for chris collins. Thought he did an excellent job both on the recruiting and X's and O's front, and i still think he'd be a great replacement for K. You certainly can't argue the success that Capel has brought us on the trail, doesn't get much better than him out there.

I think we're going to have a really strong strong crop to pick from and honestly i dont think there will be a "wrong" choice. Hopefully whoever does replace the greatest coach of all time in any sport ever in the history of mankind, will have time to succeed, it'll be a lot of pressure.

I love all of the former Duke players mentioned, but my biggest hope and dream is that we can bring Brad Stevens to Duke! What a homerun that would be, and I would spare no cost to get him.
I also like Tony Bennett as a second choice.
Go Duke!!

If it were today give me Stevens or Capel however, we have a while before its time to get a new coach.. Someone else may very well emerge as the strongest candidate (Wojo is getting a great class and Hurley is impressive so far) I would NEVER want Bennett, IMO you need more scoring punch then what hes style provides to win it all and he doesn't recruit at a high level, but a little success could change that

Just read that Hurley agreed to contract extension at Buffalo. Someone else can get stuck at DePaul.

Okay, not guaranteed, but a much better chance than any of the Duke guys. I wish it could be someone like Johnny Dawkins or Jeff Capel, but with a program as elite as this, it needs to be someone proven. Brad Stevens is a perfect fit for Duke.

right now Jeff Capel is the best person for the job. Hes a Dukie , has had success at a major program, is a great recruiter, and a class guy. also why do people bring up shaka? I don't get that.

I'd love to have Capel as our next coach. Him coming back here has helped Duke and Capel. He is grown so much I believe as a coach and I think he would be a fantastic head coach.

It seems like everyone has forgotten about Collins. I thought he was a frontrunner up until his departure to take a head coaching job elsewhere. I would think he still factors into the conversation.

I wholeheartedly agree here. I respect the heck out of him and how disciplined his players are and how effectively they run his system, but I don't enjoy the product (and I'm a high school basketball coach). I grew up in watching the early 90's and beyond ACC, with the likes of Christian Laettner, Grant Hill, Tim Duncan, Antwan Jamison, Randolph Childress, JJ Redick, Jason Williams, Joe Smith, Vince Carter, Stephon Marbury, Chris Paul, and too many other to even mention. 54-48 ballgames is not the ACC I know or prefer. I'm not saying no defense obviously, but let's put the ball in the basket a little bit too.

On a side note, I think ultimately that is what hurt Bennett and the Wahoos. They are conservative to a fault when on offense. They often pass up shots to burn more shot clock, and their desire to play slow sometimes removes their aggressiveness. They have guys like Brogden, Anderson, Perrantes, and Gill who can create and make plays, but they all disappear for stretches due to the nature of the way they play. You almost never see Anderson rip a defensive board and immediately and aggressively change ends like Justise, and they are the same kind of elite athlete. They always err of the side of caution/conservatism. I think Bennett needs to loosen the reins offensively. Sorry, I know that's not really what the thread is about.

If it were today of course Hurley would not be my pick. Doesn't deserve it YET. I too am a Celtics fan but if I had to chose I would prefer Brad at Duke. He is my top choice. I feel like if the talent is right you can find an NBA coach no problem. However, at the University level you have to be a fit culturally as well.

I just think K has some time and in that time I think Hurley will surpass everyone. I like his potential more than everyone else.

Shaka Smart at Duke? Maybe as a recruiter. He's a one trick pony.

Gregg Marshall, Brad Stevens or someone in the family. Hurley is too risky.

Call me bias, but Smart as a coah is not a one trick pony. He has some of the closest knit teams I've seen and he has them play defense EVERY possession. Do I think Duke should hire him, nah. But I can tell you he is no "one trick pony". If, by chance, he were to caoch Duke (no I don't think Duke would go after him) I can promise you the old days of Duke slapping the floor and playing true defense would be back.

St. John's would be smart to hire Danny. I think Buffalo just gave Bobby an extension, not that contracts matter these days though lol
