It's an adjustment that happens every year. It's not a hoax. CNN has 3 articles related to it. MSNBC has one. I just searched them both. I rarely read CNN and I never read MSNBC.

A blanket statement to just look in your wallet does not account for the differences you mentioned, and frankly, ignores them.
