How did you become a Duke fan?

Came over in 87...ended up at Illinois St coaching soccer...room mate was a Penn State alum and loved college hoops so we watched it all the time and went to Redbird games. Duke was on TV alot and i liked the way Coach K gave kudos to the other team win or lose and his fire on the sidelines. Read a book or two of his and picked Duke because of him..the rest is history...

How did you become a Duke fan?

Maybe this is stupid but I’m just curious. There are many of us who spend a lot of time to come to this forum to talk about a team with complete strangers. I have been coming to this forum for almost ten years and I’ve just been curious to what made everyone become such a big Duke basketball fan. Did you go to school at Duke? Did a relative go there? Was it 91, 92? JJ? Battier?

Me… my grandmother was actually a unc alumni who just loved college basketball. She loved it so much that she liked Duke as well. She had me (7 years old) write a letter to coach k after 91. Coach k wrote me back and I’ve been a die-hard fan since. She is in the only person I have ever known to be a die hard Duke and unc fan. I think she liked unc slightly better but never had the heart to tell me.

Funny thing is Cameron & Sion HS teams played against each other in the state championship game. Cameron had 31 and his team won in OT. Both look like great additions. They both should know each other which should help also with the transition to Duke. In the video Cameron built and style reminded me of the way Jabari Parker played. Not saying he is that level though just saying the way he played in the championship game. Parker was a stud at the college level and had a decent pro career. Injuries did him in.
I’m holding you to he’s Jabari Parker 2.0

Ok then I don’t want to hear anything else about mass exodus every year and hearing people say X player should have gotten more time or we really could have used Y player on this years team . Because every player leaving is because two things . Playing time and NIL.
Just like if Stewart plays well at Ohio State or Powers becomes Virginia’s leading scorer there will be plenty posters on here asking why Jon didn’t play them .
And yes do I think it might be a mistake having Sion start . Sure do because where is your bench scoring going to come from once again ? The last two seasons under Jon it has not been the starters it’s been the lack of development of the bench and that’s players six -eight .
You’ve never heard me complain about mass exodus. I just get tired of people saying you have to play players so many minutes or they might transfer. If you don’t want to be at Duke and compete for playing time, then don’t let the door hit you on the way out. All the talk about promising pt is messed up.

If you only win by 1, it could have easily been a loss. I say beat the hell out of them and get back to teams expecting to lose when they come to Cameron.
I don’t think teams are scared to play Duke as much as they used to . College basketball has changed and the turn over of rosters year in and year out has given teams an edge as to where old Duke teams were full of upperclassmen that had played in Cameron for more then one to two years and were up to the task .

I don’t want 11 guys playing equal minutes . I want ten guys getting some minutes especially against lesser opponents. I want to see a team so intact that teams don’t know how to approach them . A course more will play more minutes than others but I also think this team has the pieces to play bench players more against lesser opponents. I mean a win is a win if it’s by 1 or 100.

Sweep the Rams @ Jack Coombs Stadium.

Good start tonight, taking it 5-3 over the Heels. But Beilinson had to go 3 (and got the win), likely not available tomorrow if needed. Go Devils!
Great win!! Didn't let the Cheat-
ers comeback to tie the game phase us. Pushed across two more to put 'em away!!

Beilinson was throwing smoke jeffrey, and we'd be lucky to see him again Saturday I guess. Got to have at least one of the next two to win series. I would take it.

6 freshman. 6 non freshman
I like it. They can scrimmage each other.
Cameron drew 27 charges. I like this guy already. 6 rebounds per game and decent 3 point stroke. Jon has leveled up in his transfer powers. He seems to be targeting specific types of players who can role play. Cameron may not crack the rotation but started a bunch of games at Tulane.

Sion does not need to start.
