and other transfers before our most recent 3 of Jeter, Tucker and Thornton? Just something to discuss. OFC

Williams transferred to Memphis, played decent there and ended up being drafted later in the first round. I think by Portland. He never really amounted to much in the NBA, and as of a few years ago was playing in Greece. He may be retired now.

Boykin transferred closer to home and played at Cal. He actually played his last career collegiate game against Duke. We beat Cal in the second round of the 2010 NCAAT. He played professionally in Turkey. Not sure if he’s still playing or not.

Chappell transferred to Michigan State after the 1998 season. He had a decent last two season’s for them, winning a national championship in 2000 on that Mateen Cleaves-led team. Like former Duke player Nick Horvath, Chappell spent most of his professional career playing Down Under in Australia and New Zealand.

Burgess went to Utah and battled a number of injuries. I’m not sure he ever played a full, healthy season there. He played professionally overseas for a number of years after college, though.

I remember when we Chappell I was really excited. I thought he was going to have a great career for us. Didn't he come along about the same time as Carrawell? Thanks for the find dj. OFC

I was watching Dr Phil the other day, and he had a body language expert on. By the experts breakdown on signs of bad body language, several of our transfers exhibited high characteristics, leading them away from Duke.
Thought it was an interesting show. A shame I deleted it already.

That ended up being a productive class even with Chappell leaving. Carrawell player of the year and Nate coming backnowledge to Duke. Now Chris is back. I love it when former players come back to the bench to be asst. coaches. Proof of the love they have for Duke and Coach K. OFC

Burgess is an assistant at Utah Valley. Former Kentucky Wildcat, Mark Pope, is the head coach. Duke actually played UVU in the 2nd game of the season last year - I saw Burgess give K a little embrace at the end.

^ Did not know that. Thanks for the info.

Also, I would note that he still stays in close contact with other Duke players. Here he is at the 2015 Final Four with JD Simpson, Battier, Dunleavy, and a few others. I know his father had a few interesting remarks following his early departure, but he's not a disgruntled transfer by any means.

Actually went to the same HS as Burgess. Played HS ball with his younger brother. He was a really good player in Australia for a number of years. He’s actually a solid dude. Dad not so much. Crazy that guy was the number 1 recruit in the nation that year over some amazing players.

Did you play with David? He was a 4-star recruit, but for some reason he didn't have much of a college career. I'm guessing he had a lot of injuries like Chris.

Yeah, he was a soph when I was a senior. Soft as hell as a player. Never had the talent his brother did. Chris was night and day better. Shea Cotton, Chris Burgess, and Tyson Chandler were the best players I saw in Southern California. Dave went to Gonzaga and I think ended at Utah or something like that.
